shadowfire
I know some company is planning a live-action Dragoball Z movie, but I heard somwhere there has already been a Dragonball live-action released in Japan. Is this true.
Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
Yep actually it wasn't Japan that made it, but hong kong. You can actually find it on american vhs and dvd under the title Dragon Ball the Magic begins. However be warned the effects for it are bad...and the movie...is really utterly horrible in general. Rent before you buy it.
JCBaggee
I've read about this movie and the several changes. Apparently, they couldn't get the actual rights to make a movie based on Dragon Ball, so they just changed key things. Goku is known as the Monkey King and the Dragon Balls become the Dragon Pearls. God, I hope I heard wrong... --Chris

Hong Kong is notorious for doing things like this, they even made there own live action street fighter were Goku shows up for a cameo called Future Cops. TheShinje
there is only one expression I can make for the Hong Kong movie... o_O;;; This movie looks truly horrible, just look at Mr. Popo And Yamcha, named Westwood in the movie, with a PARROT! I sure hope the new dragonball movie isn't as bad as this one, why, oh why, couldn't they just made a CGI or anime movie? goodness... WickedThought
Why in the world didn't they make this and animated movie. MR.POPO what have they done to you! and Yamcha PLEASE god! say none of this is true and stop this movie.
PiroMunkie
It is unfortunate that this modern live action movie could not get the proper rights to the series. I have seen those images of the Hong Kong movie before, and I must say they are quite disturbing. Hopefully, even with the generic names (which I do believe are derived from the original legend on which the DragonBall series was based off of), whatever company is making this movie can still hold true to the look and overall attitude of the characters, and at the same time get some decent effects for when ki is used. And... Yamucha will not have a... parrot. *shakes head in shame*
Arkadyz
Yeah the hong kong one is quite horrific...Fox aquired the rights to a Live action DBZ movie alittle over a year ago(yep ALL rights, names and all :D ) And said they where "supposedly putting it on the fast track for a release between fall 2003 - summer 2004 I havent heard anything more about it though since... I dont know what to expect from this one if it is being made...It would def. have alot better sfx then the hong kong one but id still be afriad fox would butcher the storyline...
Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
Well I just recently was on the dbz site, for America. Basically no new, news has been posted pertaining to the live action Dragon Ball Z movie. The only thing they are asking is who should play the role of Vegeta and if I remember currectly one of the names was Jackie Chan... -___- However on a much lighter note for some of you who have been crying out in outrage against a live action DBZ Flick, it seems like they have been listening there still isn't a release date meaning one of two things. 1.)No US Director is stupid enough to try and copy the anime into a Live Action Format. or 2.)The company Funimation and also 20th Century Fox have decided...not to go ahead with the movie based on Hardcore dbz fans being against the making of this film. Either way if some directors names, and actors aren't attached to the movie soon, consider this project canned before it even starts. Which wouldn't be such a bad thing would it? ;)
Ryan
God help the people that will make this "Live-action movie" hell on earth. It should be animation instead of real people. But you never really know. Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat Annihilation(spel?) were very good movies and I watch them all the time. But MK was from a video game. Horrible idea about making real people DBZ movie, if you ask me.
JCBaggee
The problem I see is the visual aspect. Will the hairstyles and energy waves really communicate that well? While I believe that it is possible to do this movie with today's effects, it will be really friggin' expensive. --Chris
Shinken
Personally, I'm looking forward to the Live Animation from FOX. However, I do share everyone's anxiety over the movie's quality. And poor Mr. Popo! He looks like the Chewbacca ripoff from SpaceBalls! Yamcha looks like a pimp, and whoever it is fighting the "crocodile"/foam or rubber head should have a large electrical appliance dropped right in with them. Abandon hope all ye who watch this steaming hunk of excrement! :demon: Saiyan Out :demon:
Arkadyz
Hey sorry about that if anyone caught what this originally said...Anywayz I just hope fox casts the right ppl for this...i can just see them hiring some guys that dont even look anything like are fav characters :worried:
SaiyanPrincessX
How many times is this topic going to pop up? o_O I really don't think its going to be that great. Its very possible but expensive(as mentioned)and time consuming... I suppose I should be a little more open minded but its hard to believe that they could pull it off. Though anything is possible. Gohan
I think this could turn out to be very good. Instead of picking all these very famous actors, i think they'd pick someone who's never really been heard of because that would be cheaper paying them than one of the big movie stars. And with todays special effects i think the ki attacks and everything will be very good
VegetasGirl420
hey, i thought that hong kong made Monkey King? i kow its a live avion dbz, and yes, is crappy, but it was made a long while ago (92?). the movie being made here i america is supposed tohave jet li or some shnapp. i may be wrong. A for the live acton dbz itself, the thought is it should be pitched. there is no way that any movie can top the orignal anime, and that is that.(vegeta is vegeta, but i think ill cry when i see him acted by jet... i like jet li)hehe
Nate
They have announced that Jackie Chan WILL be Vegeta. Van Deisal Will be Frieza. They have also announced who these will be: Goku Gohan Goten Trunks Chi-Chi Bulma Cell Yamcha and others..just can't remeber what they were... It was in Beckett collectors ssue number 8 i think.... Manic Webb
I don't read Beckett, but I'm guessing you read a list of actors that some fans wanted the most, not an official actor's roster. I mean, the movie doesn't even have a director yet. There's no one to cast it. Anyway, I saw the Chinese movie the other night on the iChannel. It was so corny, it wasn't even funny. I was surprised that they used Oolong, but even more surprised that they made him into a shape-shifting human, not a pig.
mgdman
well who knows how it will come out...well if you think about it that one x men movie wasn't so bad so they might have a chance but like they said before how are they gonna make them fly...and how will they make the hair look god?huhuh?:worried:
Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
As for that list of actors named, don't believe what Beckett printed. The studio producing this has yet to even decide on a starting date, and a released date not to meantion a script. So the fact they are choosing actors before a script is made seems highly unlikely. Once again I have to lobby against them going live action, perhaps a CGI film the likes of the Final Fantasy movie would be better. Since it would be rather weird to have the DBZ Live action film incorporate effects in the likes of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Even with the best effect studios it would be hard to pull off the Ki and Flying effects. It wouldn't look very realistic on film.
mgdman
well you really can't make it seem realistic cuz its not real so it might look weird, but hey who knows they might come out with something good:D
gsp01
I've heard about rumors and everything that has to do with this movie. It was posted on dragonballz.com in 2001, but there has been no new news since then. It would be nice for them to create a live-action DBZ movie, but there's no way that they'd do it as it would cost way too much and would be too time-consuming. eazy e
Oh geez, that is the reason i am against the new Dragonball Z movie i have actually witnessed that garbage it was the STUPIDEST thing i have seen in the DB series.
