I have read a little info on Fox's live-action DBZ.
Fox is planing on making 4 movies, each from the Saiyan Saga, Frieza Saga, Android/Cell Saga, and the Majin Buu Saga. They are trying to get them as a PG-13 rating, and to each be 3 to 4 hours long. George Lucas's CGI company ILM is doing the special effects. Unfortantly, filming has been delayed intil summer 2004 cause of casting and schedule problems. After filming and post-production special effects are done, the first movie won't be out until well into 2005.
The title has not been decided yet, but FOX is thinking of titles such as "DragonBall Z: Unlimited" or "DragonBall Z: Fight For Mankind".

I dunno but I know of a guy that would be perfect as vegeta. The guy that plays in the Transporter, also in Jet Li's The One, and even in the new Italian Job. Can't think of his name but he'd be perfect, he's shorter, knows martial arts, has a high odd shaped hair line, has an attitude and wears a grizzled face and even has a weird voice. I think that dude would be perfect to play Vegeta.

How would they do the energy blasts and aruas? I think that Goku turning super sayain might look cool if they do it right!

Have you guys seen Matrix: Reloded? If they can make that, then they can pull of the flying, the ki, everything! LoTR had some *Beam* attacks with Gandalf and they were pretty good looking. This movie is possible, and WHEN it is done it will be VERY INTENSE!:naughty:

B-but... what are they going to do about the hair? oO;;;;;

Everytime I think about the outcome of this, I imagine these actors wearing styrofoam 'super saiyan hair', and this one actor in a styrofoam 'Buu'-suit. xx;;;

The only way I'm actually going to see this movie is if they use the Androids as villans. I can't imagine what would happen if they used anyone else. Also, Jet Li seems appropriate for Vegeta. He has the whole dark, stern persona, soo...

The hair is going to be interesting. i mean, when you think about it, how do they keep it spiked? oO

Anyways...

I agree with the Androids being the only ones I could see as the villains. I woudln't like to see Cell with a zipper on his back and being able to see the spot where the mask is being seperated from the suit. lol...

Well, I doubt they'd have a Cell SUIT. In LOTR they had Gollum.. Gollum was CGI. Cell would probably be CGI if that was the case.

Oh, gods, not again...

okay, before I post, let me explain. There may appear, above this post, another post of mine. This is double-posting. However, read that post. It says that I came back to edit that post.

however at this moment I cannot see that post for some reason; the last post on this page is by OtakuSennen as far as I can see.

I don't know why this is happening. It happened a few times before, curiously enough always in this forum.

Anyway...I am sorry, yadda yadda yadda, etc, but it is really and truely not my fault.

On the other hand, I may be going mad.

***

This will probably take place EARLY in DBZ. Such as, the DBZ movie. the FIRST one.

Or not. They might make Freiza come into it for shits and giggles.

Anyway...

first off hair. They'll take liberties. Goku, Vegeta, and crew will have shorter hair. They'll just make it so that the hair is pretty messy. Bulma will not have entirely blue hair, probably just streaks. if that.

Secondly, energy attacks. This poses no problem.

Thirdly, transformations. This may pose some problems, as it would look silly. Therefor, they'll likely take some liberties. Extreme liberties. As in, make a Super Saiyin look like a Saiyin x4. However they should do a descent enough job.

Fourthly, flying. Not a problem.

Fifthly, fighting speed. Again, liberties will be taken. It will be done in Matrix style.

Sixthly, acting. Keanu Reeves is an idiot but can act serious despite his idiocy, much like Goku, so he really isn't as bad a choice as you think he is. Vinny is too tall to play Vegeta, but they may take liberties and/or do some editing. They'd pull in a random kid to play Gohan, some chick to play Bulma, and pull in some nameless actors to play Piccolo, Tien, Krillen, etc. Actually...Vinny could play Nappa.

Shenron will be voiced by Sean Connery. Shut up, he will. SHUT UP, do NOT INSULT The Sean

The story will be based around getting the Dragonballs, not the comming of the Saiyins or the like. They might chuck in Freiza as someone who wants the Dragonballs, but unlikely, they'll probably instead choose to make Vegeta the opponent, or come up with someone compleately new. They won't toss in the Androids or Cell; they have a long and complex backstory that's too big to put into a movie. Vegeta and Freiza are simple: "I'm really powerful. I wan the Dragonballs. Grr. Arg."

Oh, forgot to mention: Freiza will come to Earth, rather then having the Z Warriors go to Namek.

Personally, I would have made a Dragonball movie first, or something.

DBZ isn't actually a good example of anime, quite the opposite in fact. It has little to do with characters and more to "okay, how much destruction can we unleash THIS time?". So it wouldn't be the end of anime as we know it.

The thing about animes is that most of them have low budgets, as compared to American cartoons. so, more effort is put into character developement and less into flashy sequences. Dragon Ball Z, however, has no character developement to speak of. The best they have is Gohan, he's actually done pretty well but everyone else is kinda' sucky in that department.

Prime examples of good anime series - lots of character developement - would be Card Captor Sakura, Digimon Tamers, most of the Gundum series (Probably the best anime series of all time), and possibly Ruroni Kenshin.

Good examples in movies would be Blue Sub No. 6, Miyazaki's Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke.

Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT, while they are fun to watch, have little in the way of plot or story, and could just as easily have been an American cartoon.

On the flip side, Batman: Beyond would have made a great anime. Most of it's designers are Japanese, so they know what they're doing. Excelent character developement

P.S.

They're also doing a Neon Genesis: Evangelion movie. However this has the OK of Anno, and he says it's good, so we can expect a lot of depression.

...Yes, FOX is doing it.. It says that on the Shonen Jump website..

Other anime I think would be good live-action movies:
-Rurouni Kenshin
-Naruto (hehe.. Live action Harem no Jutsu)
-.hack
-Gundam (If Evangelion turns out well, this will be a requirement of a film, if you think like a movie director would.)

Younger characters means younger actors, so I don't think that would be such a great idea... They need more mature, older actors with more experience, IMO.
