Sonic Team's Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg

I'm sure everyone knows Sonic Team by now. They're probably the most famous developers in SEGA overall... Sonic, Nights, PSO and so on.

They just announced a new game for GameCube, which should be fully shown off at E3 this May.

It's called Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, and is some sort of platformer... where Bill makes use of creatures he hatches from eggs to help him out.

That's about all that's known at this point heh. I'm posting this because of two main points of interest (other than the game looking pretty cool in my opinion):

1.) This is Sonic Team's first fully original character creation in quite a long time.

2.) It lends evidence that makes it seem as though the recently leaked Sega of Europe E3 list was true... Which basically means Sonic Hero and quite a few other games will be shown off this year.

Thanks to GAF for the mag scan.

By the way, I'd ignore the MGS4 thing at the end for right now (even though they say that and go in a totally different direction in their actual rumor lol).

The supposed name of the GC MGS game is Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. Nothing else is really known about it, so anything else is complete speculation. Might be an all new game, might not.

I severely doubt it's another version of MGS2 considering Miyamoto's interest and involvment.

Looks great, though I'm concerned about the whole creature thing *coughpokemoncough* I'm sure it wont be like that. ;)
Even though Billy's head looks like a chicken (I'm assuming thats Billy), I'm sure it will be good, especially coming from Yuji Naka. (Yu Suzuki from AM'2 is an other legend) *Dreams about Shenmue II actually coming out for gamecube*

Wow, these are the first shots I've seen of this game. It certainly grabs my attention -- it looks very unique and interesting.

It's great to see Sonic Team doing something totally new as well. But I really hope that we'll see Sonic Adventure 3 at E3 this year...and maybe a new NiGHTS? I'm sure everyone wants that. I'd love to see a new version of that game. But anyway...

I can't wait to hear some actually hands-on impressions of Billy Hatcher & the Giant Egg. The only misgiving I have about the game right now is its goofy name. lol

But the actual game seems like it might be very interesting.

This is the first I've even heard about this game (ha, shows how much I keep up :blush: ) and I it is a crazy and off the wall idea. If it involves crazy and nice (you know what I mean) gameplay; I'll get it. If it involves repeatative platform gaming; I'll hate it ^_^;

I'd like to be more excited with this game, but there's still too little information for me to be more than a little interested. I hope that E3 puts it in my BUY list.

However, for Sonic Team's sake; I hope that they change the name, since this one will turn off the closer-minded people.

Japanese people are less concerned bout the name of games, they are just hyped when they get English named stuff, like Pocket Monsters had to be changed to Poke' Mon to make it seem less cheezy to americans, if you know what i mean

I don't see the problem with the name honestly. The name Billy Hatcher makes sense to me since he's hatching eggs, but whatever. Sega isn't likely to change a name anyway lol.

Anyway, Nintendo is putting out a demo disc soon (FINALLY)... I'm not clear on how you're supposed to get it, but it's free. It has a playable demo of this game, Viewtiful Joe, Sonic DX and something else... Soul Calibur 2 is rumored playable as well.

I actually drooled when I read this. And then I proceeded to shout a good: "All right!". I mean, demos were expected soon, but FREE, and with Viewtiful Joe!? Hell, I'd gladly pay $10 (make it $15) for that disc, but I won't have to!

Back on topic- Knowing the ignorant masses, this name will result in less sales, because "teh geim iss kIiddie!!11shift+1". However, with the right marketing, Sega can stop the rumors before they begin. Just look at "Ratchet and Clank", which very few people call kiddy because of the commercials.

It's about damn time I posted in this thread.

This game looks pretty interesting, but I am with Smoky. Untill way more information is released, I am not going to assume anything. The screens do look nice however, and the prospect of hatching creatures to use along your journey is an innovative idea. I really have to see how it's going to work.

About the GCN demo disc, I am really exited about that. I'll get to try out Viewtiful Joe and this game too. Semjaza be sure to post back when you get word on how to recieve it, ok?

Eh, I still think the name sounds a tad stpuid. It seems that this name is for the Japanese version. I hope it's changed in the western versions, but who knows. Either way, I'm looking forward to hearing more about this game. Hopefully it's better than Sonic Adventure 2.

I'm also greatly looking forward to the demo disc. I remember a while ago that the EIC of Nintendo Gamer was telling me that Nintendo Australia was planning to bundle demo discs in with that magazine -- but nothing has happened yet. So this might be their opportunity; who knows.

I don't mind the name personally but The game looks really fun. I can't wait to play it . Have any of you noticed that Billy has that smirk on his face like Sonic and doing one of those Sonic Adventure poses, kinda makes you think if Sonic isn't in there somewhere maybe a guest apperance perhaps?:smirk:

I had a thread on the demo disc a while back. Only one guy seemed interested I guess.

If you hold down A and press Start, you'll get a remix of the level that I think is a lot more entertaining. There is a bit more to do and it's a bit more challenging.

I've been told the levels at E3 were far better, so I'm not sure why they kept this so short.
