Breaking In

Just an hour ago someone tried to break into my house! That came to me as a shock when I realized it... I don't mean to be wasting your time or anything (if your reading this) but I just need to occupie myself with something to calm down and I just felt like telling someone about it.

It wasn't very exciting but I never imagined anyone would try to break into my house in a million years! I guess that I just somehow never really beleive it was possible. Don't laugh, it's just that somehow I just never felt like it would happen to me (pah, some of you must feel the same in a way!).

Some dude was fiddlin' with my front door. At first I thought that it was my parent's comeing home and they were just haveing some problems. When it stopped and nobody came in I got suspicious. I noticed that the time was to early for them to be comeing home and when I checked our drive way I noticed that their car wasn't there. It was empty. When the person tried opening the door I kinda went into a clam and freaked out sorta panic. Both my brothers were with me at the same time (both younger, one 13 the other 2 years old), I called the police and in about five minit's four cars came and searched our house and our yard. They asked a few questions said they were going to check the other houses near by and then left telling us that there was no one there. The person at our door wasn't caught and wasn't even seen.

That's my story. I think that it was just a bergaler or something and when they heard us (if they did) they just ran for it. My only explination right now.
I'm just happy that nothing serious happened.

Oh... heh, yeah. Sorry about that. ^_^;; I was just looking for some moose... >>

Heh, do not worry about it. Obviously, who or whatever it was obviously did not care enough to try and break the door down or know how to pick a lock. So chances are they were not even armed. So upon sight of you they probably would have ducked out of there.

No worries. Hakuna Matata.

You know, I once heard of a story when a person tried to break into a house and the only person there was a nine year old boy. What happend was that the boy grabbed a baseballbat (is that 1 or 2 words) and when the person reached in, smashed his hand. The arrested him half an hour later at the hospital for having a broken hand. So if anyone tries to break in, grab the nearest heavy blunt object like a bat or large wrench and smash the first thing you can. The law would side with you.

Yeah it's pretty freaky when someone tries to break into your home. It's good that you called the police. Whoever it was would be really stupid to try and break in again. I guess it would be a good idea to install an alarm system or something.

If someone tried to do that to my home, i'd get very pissed off and probably grab not only the heaviest, but also the sharpest object I have and call the police.
I would just feel very violated if someone broke into my home and searched and stole my belongings.

Hmm sorry to hear that DarkMoon that must of been a rather stressful situation to say the least. Though it was very smart of you to call the cops, and I'm sure your pretty relieved that the perpatraitors of this incident left and nothing too serious happened.

I've never really worried about someone breaking into my home, and even if they did it wouldn't matter possessions can be replaced...lives cant'. Though I'm sorry to hear about your situation, do you guys have an alarm system set up in your house like ADT or Sloman Shield? There rather handy I have ADT on both my homes, they're rather good at what they do.

There's not many break ins in my neighbourhood. It's like a really family liek place here... but not for the rich, like middle class, anyway... yeah... not many breaks in that I know of. A few here and there but usually just the kids.... The only stealing around here is those motherf*ckin kids stealing my tire air cover things. And f-ing with my brother's car one time. Someone broke into my dad's truck and stole baout 5,000 worth of stuff, luckily it wasn't ours lol. It was the governments. But they still touched the most awesome truck ever, for that they will be beaten with a big metal rod.... yeah, so the only vehicles at my house not to be touched are the two with the alarms. I need an alarm on my car, even though I kinda got in an accident two days ago.. heh heh.... anyway.... on to another subject...

We've had someone break in once here. They didn't steal anything though. It was some meddling kids. Smoked a cigarette, trashed my brothers room, lol, didn't touch mine. Which leads me to believe it was one of my "friends"....but yeah.... and that was when we were on vacation in Atlanta or something.

We would have gotten away with it, too.. bwahahahaha!

My god... you would have died of several heart-attacks a night if you've lived in some of the places I have.

I don't mean to trivialize it... but I wish that's all I had to worry about at times. Heh, I would've just bashed them over the head with a chair or something (hey, we didn't have a phone :)).

I'm being really insensitive right now. I can't help it. >_<

Ignore me. Please.

Sorry about that. If someone ever breaks into my house though it's gonna' be over. My dad's a crazy vietnam veteran, and we have a s***load of guns including an AK-47 w/ armor piercing rounds, AR-15, and an SKS, and a colt .45. My dad said once if anyone ever breaks into our house, they won't be leaving.

Wow.

I'm with you, Darkmoon--it's one of those things you'd never expect to happen to you. I've been fortunate enough not to be in that situation--I've had a few scares of somebody rattling through our bushes, but nothing else.

I'm very glad you had the presence of mind to call the police; that kept the weirdo away, if nothing else. And, from what I hear from most people (who probably have never been robbed, either), robbers are a lot less likely to return to a house that has cops show up after an attempt (if that makes sense).

You'll be nervous for a few days. Trust your parents to do the right thing. (Peace of mind is such a fragile thing...)
On a completely unrelated note, 3000 posts!!!
If they didn't get into your house, they probably and more than likely won't ever try again.^.~ Like almost everyone here has said, it was probably just some amateur burglar looking for some easy cash.^^() Don't let it bother you too much, because it's very unlikely anything like this will happen again.

I live in a rather peaceful neighborhood, and we rarely ever have break ins...In fact the last one we had was around 5 years ago.Oo Of course, that's the last one that circulated around at least.^^()

I once had a couple people try to break into the house, but they miserably failed.-- I was only about 6, and my babysitter was telling me to just sit on the couch and wait.-- They eventually just left, after giving up on the front door.Oo

Another incident was with some of my mother's students. They broke into her car and stole it.Oo She got it back though, and they got in huge trouble.-- Many a thing has happened with my mother's school. Once a couple of her students came and, with an airgun, blew two holes in the back of my dad's van.Oo Strange things we humans do eh?

Oh well, again I say you shouldn't worry about it. If anything like that happens again, call the police and grab the nearest harmful object you can find.^^()

Thanx for your reasurences guys... All of a sudden I feel less alone (even if most of you probably live atleast 1000 of miles away). At the time the only thing I was grabbing was my baby brother from his bed as a just-in-case-something-happens kinda thing. I don't think my mind was clear enough for me to grab any sharp or heavy objects. I don't remember it ever crossing my mind.

Right now I (shamefully) don't trust my parents with anything -__- My mom did pass a few lights trying to get to us when she heard of the incedent (couldn't contact my dad at the time) . She was all white faced and... It kinda scared me when I saw my mom. She and my dad care for us I can tell you that. The reason I don't trust them right now is cause for the past few nights (accually since the christmas break) they've been argueing. Just 15 minit's after my dad came home they were yelling at each other again forgetting the whole subject of break-ins. I'm afraid they're most likely going to devorce soon... My mom even threatend to leave late night.

As you can tell this break in attempt only added a bit more worries to my already sad life.

Oh yes, and we do have an alarm system. It connects to all the doors and windows so if someone opens them without turning off the alarm they go off. The only unprotected part of our house is the upstairs windows, which each have a lock on them.

At least they didn't get in, that would be scary.Unless you had a frying pan with you...But I won't get into that.

Someone broke into my house once, I wasted home though. My mom was there and she ran into the bathroom and called the police.I'm glad he didn't steal anything.

I hope that never happens again...>.<

Actually if someone is armed and they break into your house nothing can be done about it, it's called "Self Defense" if you believe they are posing a threat to you or your family. Now personally if someone broke in I'd probably hold them at gunpoint and have my sister call the cops or something, but if they tried anything then I'd have to....

Also a person just up the road from me blew the head off of some guy that broke into his house... And guess what he got? Nothing... As you said... Praise the justice system.

That only gets you so far. There's been several cases where the man was charged with murder because the robber no longer pose a threat but he continued anyway. Don't Praise the Judicial System yet.

Well, many people always think (Including me) that things like that never happen to people like us. You always think it would happen to "Someone else," but it just prove that no one is safe from crime. I'm glad though that your all safe, and that nothing was stolen.

I was robbed once in college...well not really robbed, it was more like an attempted burglary. One of my classes was canceled and I came home early to one of my "friends" emptying out my apartment. I am sure it was quite a shock when he saw me leaning against his car, gazing at my tv, ps2, both of my guitars, and a bunch of other stuff.

I was nice, I made him unload his car and then I told him that I would't call the cops but I was going to tell everybody we knew that he was trying to steal from me.

I ponder whether it is worth killing someone who is trying to steal something as mundane as a radio...

Edit: But then I wonder why someone would want to risk their life to steal something as mundane as a radio. The circle continues.. oO

unfortunately for me, i've never felt that type of safety, but that can be a good thing, i always watch my my own back, on the defensive so to speak, so it's hard for ppl to blind me with trust and then steal all my stuff when i turn my back.
i have family that were burglars once, and just because of that i pity the man that was caught stealing a t.v. i mean i'm not stupid, try to hurt me and all hell will raise loose, but senseless murder for some merchandise is not me.

You seem strangely calm about all these mishaps... I would not find it comical if people stole from me.

The only time someone ever tried to break in was this black guy with a ski mask on. The idiot was intent on breaking in till I opened the door and had a 12 guage pointed at him. He was already to his car by the time I got my shoes on and got out on the porch. He took of like a scared b***... I told my dad and he said to call the cops if he came back... Needless to say he was a smart guy and didn't.

I live in a nice village, except for the string of break-ins that's been going on recently, so I've been giving this topic thought recently. Luckily our Alarm system has a Panic button, that sets it off instantly, loud enough to wake the dead, and with a strobe light attached! Also I have a collection of fencing blades which I can use with some skill. They may be bluntened, but it's still quite easy to draw blood even through the well regulated armour. (Before the armour was well regulated, there were fatalities).

So I've never felt that threatened by it, also because I think the people doing it are about my age.
