Ice Dragon v2
even though this relates to the attacks, i never saw anyone post this up. the pentagon is the military defense HQ of the US. since its a HQ, theres radar. (yes there is radar in the pentagon) knowing that there was radar inside, howcome no one detected the 757 on a kamikaze course???? even if they had detected it, i know the fact they couldnt get everyone out, but they could have at least saved a number of lives if there was a warning they it was on a crash course. but seriously, who fell asleep on the job???
Ice Dragon v2
Originally posted by SSJGoten From what I hear even if they had rader, they wouldnt be able to tell if it was on a crash course with the Pentagon, since theres like 3 or so airplanes in the vicinity of the pentagon. For all they knew, it couldve been a plane coming in for a landing.
that is also true but, dont u think its obvious that a plane is on a crash course??? they do have other equipment that could tell on how high the plane was or how fast was it going
Narius
not to mention that radar tends to detect things high in the air, if the plane was flying low enough the radar would not have picked it up....thats a possibility O_o...
RicoTranzrig
Plus, if they did nearly simultaneously, the military woulnd't have much time to mobilize it's defense grids. National security failed only because no one would ever imagine something like this happening in real life. The unthinkable can be thought... masterfork
OK, this is what I recall hearing on the news. The reason they would not be able to tell is because the terrorists seemed to have disabled the transponder (I think that's what it is). This does not allow for others to detect at what altitude the plane is flying. I believe this is why they could not tell, since there is an airport near the pentagon anyway.
yes, i also know that the military wont have time to mobilze, but they could have just sounded the alarm. to be honest, im not even sure if they could have saved a number of lives if they had an early warning signal
RicoTranzrig
But for someone to be so educated in planes to do that, s-t...they even sliced the pentagon with deadly accuracy, literally, without even touching the ground.

oh sh!t that s right the transponder sends out a signal to the airport n its destination to see if its going to its main flight route. without it, the plane is vunerable. sure it could be detected on radar, but thats the key point right there. nice pointing, masterfork
Ice Dragon v2
until we recover the black boxes in all 4 planes, we will never know on what happened on that fateful day
sia
well, the 2 that crashed into the WTC towers probably wont be able to be recovered in tact due to the explosions. and if they were able to be recovered, it would help alot, but what i didn't understand is who was the genius that was watching the radar when they got in range that the radar COULD pick it up w/out the thingie that transports signals to the ground control thing place. because the airport for manhattan was only like 10 miles away and the airport's radar can pick up any moving object within a 40 mile radius in the air.so they could have saved a few hundered lives more than what they did.
