If you could choose only one new BIG feature for OtakuBoards, what would it be?
[color=red][b]Well, on other boards that use vB ([url]http://forums.dodhq.net[/url]), they have taken out post couting all together. When you post, you get a "point". You then use these points in a store as a kind of cash to by things, ie avatars, glow text on your name, italic name, change your custom title, change someone else's custom title, etc. This is a very neat little vB hack that I would like to see as a part of OB.[/b][/color]

If you could only add one new forum to OtakuBoards, what would it be?

[color=red][b]I would add a forum where almost anything can be posted (ie not porn, disgusting things, etc...). I want to see more topics like th infamous Sock Thread. OB seems to be very stuffy lately with all these sad depressing topics. And when someone tries to start a fun thread (ie, where are your boxers from?) it gets closed. I think a forum where fun threads can be posted would be good.[/b][/color]

[color=red][b]I think the language filter is corrupt. People know what you are trying to say, and blocking it out just makes it seem more "naughty" (:naughty: ) than it really is. And it seems to block the dumbest words. It blocks **** (shiat), *****, (biatch), but not whore or bastard. I would frankly get in more trouble if I walked up to my principle and said whore or bastard than biatch or shiat. I say take out the language filter. You gotta be pretty dumb not to know what the ****'s block out. Other than the corrupt language filter, everythign else it fine.[/b][/color]

But wouldn't that only increase spam? If you could buy such things, I think it would encourage members to post short, pointless messages, and that would only make duscussion worse.

Eh, I think there is something about that too that would increase spam and look like we actually encourage it. Just like the newbie forum was closed, the rules will always be applied to all forums.

I think you're only looking at this from a "flaming" point of view. Think about the children! If a child can figure out what the asterics imply, then that can't be helped, but since there are kids here, some of whom have parents who don't want their children exposed to that language, it has to be done. Even with flaming, although some curse words are implied, it's a lot less offensive to most people with they are filtered out, and it makes the board look less trashy in the way of language.

I understand that this survey conveyed the opinions of members, but I was just discussing why I believe some of those things may not work.

I say you allow minor vulgarity as long as its used in a proper way. In doing so, the creater of a thread should put an icon next to the name of the thread that warns members of vulgarity or anything related to that. As for nude pictures, those shouldnt be anywhere near the boards, thats why there are Hentai/Echii sites for people like that.[/color]

[color=red][b]Just having an Off Topic or a Random Nonsence forum doesn't mean you support spam. If you have a forum that will take in all the nonsence topics, it will leave the others free and clear of spam. These boards just seem WAY to stuffy, we need a forum where people can relax and joke around. GD used to be that place, but now threads that have a chance to be funny (i bring up the boxer topic again.) get closed and it turns into a place where all that is talked about is "omgomgomg boy problem" or "omg i'm depressed someone kill me". Too much teen angst for me. We need a place to not be serious all the time. I have stumbled apon various websites/images that I think most of you would find hilarious, but I don't post them because it would be considered spam or something dumb like that.[/b][/color]

[color=#9933ff]I just sorta "returned" to OB, so I'm not sure how good things are now, but the reason I left was because of spam, so going on that, yes, you need more spam control. Not to be mean, but I got sick and tired of spamming newbies, and around the time I left, more and more were getting banned everyday for spamming. Though, I think it's getting a bit better, lately, just keep up that work. I'd like to see OB the way it was when I first stepped into it at the end of V4, and into v5. :)[/color]

I think we do a pretty good job. I always deal with anything I see as spam right away in my forums. At the same time I try not to be overly strict, though.

If I had something that would let me do that, I'd definitely come on here during breaks between classes (usually lunch time), and maybe a few other times. I probably wouldn't post much that way, since typing would be a bit of a pain, but I'd check up on the latest posts.

No. I've seen chats before, and while I haven't expirienced the chat directly, I don't like what I've seen.

Yes and no. On occasion, there are more spam levels than usual; sometimes just because it's holidays. Usually the moderators are pretty quick to stomp on the spam, so I find it pretty efficiant.

Probably not, because of the cost. But without all the other factors -- just Otakuboards, with a phone, anywhere in the world? -- then yes.

Higher quality. Quality over quantity everytime. I mean, with 5 skins or over, there should be [i]something[/i] to a person's taste -- as long as the skins are varied.

Original works, for the simple fact that I'm not into anime. While I like the pictures, I'd love to see what this community can come up with when left with a blank canvas.

Yes. At least, I usually do, over AIM, not PMs. But I'm usually sure of what to do anyway. It isn't often a huge factor for me.

Oh sure, this might be for 15 and over mainly, but it's less than 3 months to my birthday, so I'll answer. Yes, I am. While sometimes it's hard to understand the context the word is in, it's usually easy enough to translate around the blocked word anyway, so you understand the basic gist of what is being said -- half the time the swearing is unnecessary.[/color][/size]

[color=#808080]About the censorship thing. Yep, I am definitely aware of the whole alt-code business. ;) But most people understand that using codes to get around the software is against the rules (and some have been banned for exactly that).

I am the first to admit that our censoring software isn't wonderful. Every word has to be added manually -- it doesn't come with some automatic database. It's all based on what we include.

And so, it's never going to be ideal. But we do allow people who are younger than 13 to register here. So, we have certain commitments that we choose to live up to. We try to have a relatively clean environment, where most swearing is blocked out. It's not ideal by any measure, but it's something.[/color]

There's only a couple 'a things I want to mention, that others already have, just so you know a bit more demand's there. Midi themes in profiles would be an awesome idea, but we'd have to have have a post limit to get them, imagine some of the things people would have. Also they should have to be manually inserted by a Category Mod, so they'd be able to listen to them before inserting them.

Font/Size/Color personally set in profiles is the best idea ever. Need. It. ASAP.
