I know most people have this feeling when they first go to school and stuff like that. However have you ever been to a place and felt that you did not belong there? It happened to me yesturday. I was in Manhattan, I haven`t been there in a while. Anyway while I was there, I did not feel confortable, I felt really strange. However it got worst when I went to this store where almost everyone was Japanese or at least I think they were. For some reason I felt weird and as I traveled through out Manhattan I felt weirder. Man was I happy to get home to Brooklyn. Well anyway I just wanted to know, who else had a feeling or experiance like this.
Phantom
Personally, from experiance, if you feel that you must worry about the thread closing in the first place than the problem can usually be solved with a few pm's to a few good friends. But since it has yet to be shutdown, why the hell not! :) Eh highschool..I always became extremely nervous and felt that everyone was watching me because I wasnt the best looking... But quickly I got over that and realized that the people who are superficial and dont look at your innerself even a tiny bit are those who will not be good friends...and for me good friends are my life. Thus everyone else doesnt matter... try thinking about the type of peopl who might bug you.. sometimes helps. And the feeling you got when in manhattan, its normal. I mean I'm not from any big city but life is essentially the same regardless of where you are. I think you just felt a bit overwhelmed.. Might have been a third party stress factor...If that makes any sense. Could something else have already been bothering you? :) Possibly. Just dont worry, life is going to pitch a few more curves at you before you are well enough to get the foresight required to be truely knowledgable :) good luck with future self vs. self contlicts, I'm sure that you wont feel out of place if you can convince yourself that everyone is essentially the same in the very end...right? Charles
I felt out of place when my fiction writing class started at the university. Most of the class came across as preppy and smug. One guy, for example, always wore tight pastel-like sweaters and a scarf. Plus, he had a habit of criticizing things by calling them "pathetic." At first I was intent on getting the heck out of there, but after staying for a while and getting to know some of the people, it wasn't so bad. One person actually wrote stuff in a style that was similar to mine (i.e., gritty urban stuff). Heh, right now, he's working on a story about a murderer who raps to people before he kills them. I don't blend in going to school either, since the city isn't overrun with nothing but white people. But, I never felt out of place among the mix of people because my school was heavily integrated. If they don't speak any English, that's another story.
Guest Crimson Spider
I felt out of place during the whole time I went to Roy Martin. I just stood out like an oasis in the desert. That song by LP called "Somewhere I belong" pretty much describes what I went through.
Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
I feel out of place quite a lot, during my high school life pretty much stayed withdrawn until about Junior year when I felt like I could relate to people. Also when I started working I really felt out of place since I was surrounded by late 30 year olds to late 40 year olds. Pretty much like with all things in life the only way not to feel out of place is to get use to those enviroments you're not use to. As a New York native I must ask...how did you feel out of place in Manhattan? Brooklyn's much more intimidating street wise. ;)
Transtic Nerve
Anytime I'm in any sort of religious place, especially a Catholic or any Christian church, I feel wayyy out of place. O rmaybe just totally uncomfortable. Probably a bit of both.
BabyGirl
As silly as it may sound, I often feel out of place here, at the boards. All too often I feel like people preach about how horrible and damning drinking, smoking, and sexual intercourse are. But they're really not that bad, and I do those things and I suppose that I really don't care what people here think :p However, it DOES make me feel semi-awkward and out of place since such a small majority of us engage in those activities. Ah well ::sips at Corona:: time to finish up a good night of drinking :D
Vicky
I feel out of place here too. But all the time i feel like this. I'm just a loner. Know one could ever understand me! I bet you £10 know will understand me. I also feel out of place...well...ever were i go. I school people will not lay a finger on me (cos there's a rumor about my Tie-known-do skills). My only friend that almost understands me is...proble my dog. I always feel out of place. Ummm....

Kei
I feel out of place everywhere. Even in my own neighborhood, where I've lived for the past 12 years. Although I know almost everyone, and they know me, I feel weird because I don't do the things they do. Given most of them are illegal and I shouldn't be involved in them anyway, I can't help but feel I should get out of the house more than just to go to school and work. lol School isn't any better. I guess you could call me an outcast of sorts. The only people I really talk to are the people in my Cisco class and a few others. Everyone else either ignores me, teases me, or takes me for a human Internet. Oo; I've gotten used to it over the past couple of years, but I know that due to some changes coming in the near future, I'm going to have to get readjusted. That's one thing I'm not looking forward to. But I guess I can only take it one day at a time. *shrugs*
Blue Truth
I've eben feeling out of place my entire life, every where I go, I feel as if, "what am I doign here, and why am I here. IS there a point to my preseence" and other things like that, none the less, I think its becuase I don't belong in Orlando. I've been here my whole life, so I think that might be it. I feel wierd at school as well. And I just don't fit in in my small Christain school. I guess its just that I'm different from everyone I know, that I listen to punk, and rock, instead of what most people expect to me listen to, like Merange, and salsa. None the less, i don't think it matters in the end, cuase not matter what, wherever I go, there will always be wierd places to be, even in your home. I feel wierd just being in My bathroom, but not wierd in my grandparents bath room. I don't think I've been making sense in this little rant, at all. Phantom
Babygirl: I guess I sort of hear where you are coming from but your right. Most people dont openly agree that those types of things are good... But I figure anything is bad if it lacks responsibility. So drinking responsably, or smoking weed responsably, or having sex responsably... meh what is the harm in that?
Rhys Mayiessen
I usually feel out of place when I'm around people that are speaking a different language that I don't know. I know that they probably can't speak english well so that's why they speak in their language but meanwhile I'm sitting there staring into space cause I have no idea what they are saying. I think I should learn a different language!
Red
(cos there's a rumor about my Tie-known-do skills).
You mean Tae Kwon Do? I feel out of place, when I'm around 'cool' people or whatever. People who drink, smoke and have sex with anything that so much as twitches are people who have been my friends my whole life, so I'm not going to abandon them right now; just not be like them. Semjaza
I fit in everywhere I go and everyone loves me. I thought it was like this for everyone, but I guess not. Since I know someone here will take that literally, I'm going to write more... bleh. Anyway, I'd have to say everyone feels out of place at some time in their lives. Myself, I do rather often... but mostly because I make myself feel out of place by not taking part in things.
Amorphous
Well for that matter I never felt out of place really, well not from what I remember. What really happens is I may feel uncomfortable at some times but even then it is rare. I mostly just dont care, half the time I just stick with my friends and thats it. Otherwise I dont much really care about what other people think so thats pretty much why I dont feel out of place. Though I can feel like I shouldn't be somewhere for real, thats a somewhat different feeling I guess.
GinnyLyn
To answer the original question, yes. My example of the moment: when you see friends you haven't seen in a while. You get together with them and chat for a few minutes. But then something happens--just a tad noticable at first. But as the minutes wear on, you notice that they are (purposely or not) leaving you out. And they try to include you, but it just doesn't seem to be happening. Felt that just tonight, really. Meh. =\

Also the crowded streets make me paranoid and I get sick. I like Brooklyn, it`s way better than when I lived in the Bronx. Anyway besides the Manhattan thing, I always feel out of place. At school when all of my friends get together and talk about things that they did, I feel out of place because I think and say "Well, how come I wasn`t invited or anything?". I guess I am an outcast or something if my friends make me feel out of place.
Shaun
I feel sort of out of place in my family. Everyone is tall except me. Everyone is in to country music except me. Everyone likes Westerns...except me. I'm the only one with a computer. I'm the only one who likes anime. I'm the only who can do anything music related (except my mom). Yeah, I'm just the weird one of the family. John2
I'm also a proud black sheep. I'm tall for my family, I like all music, I don't do as well in school, I shop at Hot Topic rather than Old Navy, and I am the only one who is even slightly talented in the musical world. When I was in middle school none of my friends liked video games, or Anime. I felt left out. In 8th grade I met a few guys who liked DBZ, ect. I found friends with more of the same interests. Then over the summer(2001)I moved, then started high school in a diffrent district. It was scary at first but I basically had a new slab. Nobody knew me therefore I felt more comfortable talking to people about Anime ect. I have had alot of experiances with that "Out of place" feeling. When I was younger I was so shy, I never raised my hand in class or answered questions. I hated it. You get over it though, life goes on.
MillieFan
LOL, I've felt out of place almost my entire life. I'm the youngest in my immediate family (12 years younger than my only sister). I'm the only anime fan in my immediate family. I'm not like the other women in my family in that I can't cook well and that I hate sewing. I'm not as intelligent as everyone else I know.
