Bad Grades and Grossly Extensive Punishments

Well, contrary to what my sig says I'm still here temporarily. That is, untill my report card comes.

My single bad grade (a D) amongst mostly A's and afew B's is getting me two months of grounding, I have to temporarily quit my job, no videogames, no TV, no movies, no anime (...sigh...), no leaving the house, and no friends over.

Basically, my life is being reduced to nothing over a single, first ever, bad grade.

How do you get punished for bad grades?

I'm lucky enough to have parents that if they see one bad grade umongts good ones, the think nothing of it. And besides, it is usually the teachers fault anyway. But having to quit you job? That is extream. What did you get a D in?

Geometry.

I would honestly appreciate it if you never say "And besides, it is usually the teachers fault anyway." ever again. I am a firm believer that one can get bad grades in a class because they either fail to learn the meterial or because they are simply lazy.

In this case, I chose not to learn the material. I could not understand it and I didn't bother to try to learn it. It was my fault. Not the teachers.

I think this punishment is dispicable considering it's my first bad grade in 10+ years of schooling, but it was my fault.

Screw your parents. If they are that harsh about grades, be harsh back to them about little things too. Fight fire with fire, swords should clash, if you're at the point where you have to miss out on your job because you're .. 'grounded'.. then you should have started fighting for your independance before.

And I dont get punished. I dont make bad grades. o.O

That's just retarded... Quitting your job because of ONE bad grade?!? What the hell!?
If my parents see a bad grade they say, "Gotta get this one better" and then, I make it better... No punishment for it...
And yes, it's not the teacher's fault... If you get a bad grade, it's YOUR fault...

I didn't get punished for bad grades. Now, I have to go into school during the holidays to catch up, praying I won't be dropped from every single course.

I've had to quit those courses I think I won't get good grades in no matter what work I put in; just so I have some faint hope of getting high enough grades to allow me into higher education.

I got an E in my latest official English mock exam, and English is by far my best subject. Needless to say I've buckled down and have achieved an A again in a different school mock recently.

I actually blame most of this on not getting punished, since my attitude became very lax towards my subjects. If I had been punished for not achieving good grades I might not be working myself into a huge panic now.

True, getting one bad grade shouldn't really mean months of grounding, but you might be happy with your full list of A's in the end. I know I would have been.

My mom is indifferent, my dad gives me hell -_-. I got a C in one geometry test and he found out, he started something like an adult tantrum and chucked burning hot coffee pot at me. It stained the entire kitchen, and I had to clean it up afterwards. I got an A for the quarter grade but damn... I am never getting a A- or lower in math again...

My parents are quite lenient with grades, I recall once I came home with almost all D's on an interm and my parents simply told me to try harder next time. I do remember being punished in 6th grade for coming home with almost all E's on an interm I was not allowed to watch television, play videogames, or get on the internet on mondays - thursdays but after 2 weeks my parents let up. I never liked disapointing my parents so this year I have strived to keep all my grades above B's, my parents aren't use to me doing well in school so they have been quite generous of late.

I get Bs and my dad give mes hell :bawls: I hate it when he brings up the fact that he used to be a straight A student and he graduated from the best college in Japan and how he can't understand why his son gets 80-90s. Azn parents are killers when it comes to grades :(

I tried my best in my Maths and English class this term, and I still got four D's in my last report surprisingly. I'm really struggling to keep up with them two subjects no matter how much I put into it. My mum said "If you tried, keep trying".. and dad couldn't have cared less. So I pretty much got away with it.

I still think your parents are going too harsh on your punishment.. I mean, it sounds like you're going to be living in a box. And no-one can survive in a box. Maybe you should talk it over with them.

My marks through out my life are as you would say; crap. My mother used to get annoyed and upset at my marks, more so for high school. (It's an expensive high school.) To the point were she said that if I didn't get better marks I wouldn't be going. (I like going to the high school a lot.) My father just makes it clear how he feels about the marks... ... ...
Though this being the first year where my marks count for op (uni entry) I started trying to do better. I had the biggest shock when I got my card, I was going to phone the school and ask if it was mine. (My first ever report card with nearly straight a's and b's. (*Ignores accounting.*)) The only bad thing is I have to keep it up to keep my parents happy. (The bad angle of that is I have to start two assignments today... More so now. *Types faster to finish this.*)

So I guess parents have different ways of dealing with bad mark(s). I think your parents? way is a bit harsh, but in no way uncommon. I suggest talking to your parents about it, it'll make no difference but at least you tried. I know that if I get some more bad reports it would be no use talking to them... :|

Eps ? No time...

Ai...my parents are kind of strict to me when it comes to grades. Not necessarily that strict, but still mean from my point of view. Like, last year I got a 'D' in Spanish out of my other good grades (mostly A's and B's), and they didn't allow me on the computer and made me completely concentrate on school. Naturally, I'm not that strong in Spanish anyway, but they forced me to get a tutor and tried to get me into that Sylvan Learning Center ****. o_O

Now that I'm done with Spanish, I'm getting really good grades, but my dad continually emails all my teachers and tries to keep up with my grades. If I'm getting a 'C', I get hell from him, and then I have to do that classes homework in front of him and show him when I'm done. I guess he just doesn't understand that I mostly do grades to and from school, during lunch, and any free time in class. My mom is a lot easier on me, but like I said, my dad is a real pain when it comes to grades; he goes off cussing and blaming everything on me, then takes the computer away and makes me concentrae 100% on the subject.

My friend, however, recently got a 'D' on his report card. He was completely grounded; no video games, no television, no friends over, no leaving the house, no internet, and I'm not sure if he's still allowed to keep his job. He usually gets on the internet when his parents arn't home, though. Aparently this ends when he gets his next report card, as long as he doesn't get another D, lol.

I now usually average D's and C's(with the occasional A's but more likely B's.) I think my parents have just come to accept it :)
I'm nowhere near the "model student". Fact is, I dont really try (only when I dig myself into a VERY deep hole) I postpone alot, dont study blah blah blah. I manage to get D's (which are barely passing) is my required classes and really, I just do enough to get through school. Not that I'm bragging to sound "cool" or whatever, its just how I like to do in school. If i get a D or F, my mom says to raise it or I'll get grounded for about 2 weeks. So, I raise it then get back to my normal swing of things. My dad knows NOTHING about my schooling. Hes like,"What? Bad grade. Raise it." Thats it. :)
Even with my bad school habits, I'm doing fine.

Not getting paid is kind of a punishment, lol. ;) Otherwise, I think we was just pointing out that since he couldn't leave his house, it's forced him to quit work.

Currently, I'm making five A's and one B*which I am dissapointed in right now...it used to be an A!><* But anyways, my parents aren't TOO strict on grades, but they get extremly dissapointed in me if I ever get a C...of course I get dissapointed in myself as well.Oo

If I were to ever get a D, I would more than likely be forced to study for hours a night, just to get my grade up. It's different with my brother though, it's alright for him to get a D, no punishment for him.--

I suppose studying isn't too bad, but I'd really rather not.^^() I'm happy with skimming through things quickly, and just paying attention in class.

I've got to say, bad grades can depend on the teacher AND the student. Some teachers are just horrid! I know from experience. First semester, got mostly C's in math, second, new teacher, had an A ever since. Some teacher's are just better at, well, teaching.Oo

I've also got to agree though, most of the time it's the students fault for being completely lazy. Oh well, I believe your parents are being far too harsh on you for simply a D, it's only a little below average, and that much punishment is much to large for such a thing.

It doesn't really matter to my Mum whether or not I get good grades; the hardest eprson to deal with is myself [as some of you have found out]. I hate getting bad grades - anything below an A is a disappointment.

My entire family does really well in school; we've never had a problem with grades.

Teachers really do count. One of my teachers was really good - and I did really well. Another teacher just wasn't suited to me, and I did badly in her class. So it can matter.

Leave it too me to start a controversy.

What I meant was that in MY cases it was usually the teachers fault. The only class I have ever failed was home echonomics. The only reason I failed is because I was missing 42 assignments. 42 FRIGGEN ASSIGNMENTS. Half that I had turned in and had to do over, the other half I hadn't even heard of. The scary thing was that only 1 person passed that class. Apparently we were supposed to come in before/after school to do these assignments that she had never assigned. NEVER.

And the only class that I have a bad grade in now is because one of my teachers has my assignments "Mysteriously dissapear without a trace". Since it is a computer class, I have all my assignments saved. Every week I go to our website to check my grades and every week their are at least 5 assignents that I had turned in, many of them I had turned in twice already. So is usually just dump all my assignments in the turn in folder just to find that the next week she didn't grade them and they had dissapeared again. I then turned them all in again, walked directly up to her computer, and said "Check the assign folder" when she opens it up on her computer, I then said "See all of my assignments? They have been turned in more times than I can count and they are still missing. So actually grade them instead of deleting them and saying their missing again." Next day, apparently all my teachers had a conference. She made ME out to be a negleting forgettable student who talked and played games all day when she was the one who wouldn't grade my assignemts. The next thing I know, all my teachers are cracking down on me for something I haven't even done. Ever seen the movie orange county? It is kinda lilke that.

Erm... I get yelled at for B+'s. He keeps telling me that if I tried a little harder, I would get a 4.0 rather than a 3.8. My dad thinks I should be doing better than 3.83, and always stresses me to study more.

I've gotten pretty used to it, though. That's happened to me since the sixth grade, when I started getting B+'s rather than straight A's. - .-;

LOL, I'd like to see my parents ground me from the pc. I'd go on the rule - "I don't use pc, they don't use pc." See how long that lasts. (Oh yeah, who was the one saying that being a geek didn't have advantages.)

I'm just lucky that grounding isn't a very popular thing in Australia.

Eps - Hehe.

*sigh*

Most parents are so lax compared to mine. Unfortunately, to all those that said I try and fight it, I have tried that in the past. It got me another month and a steel pot chucked at me.

My family has slight anger control problems. My Dad was in the Marines. My Mom is experiancing the joy of menopause. And I am just the teenager that usually instigates the fights because of his different views.

Yeah, my parents were just like that. Therefore, I refused to allow myself to get bad grades. There was a lot of pressure, but now I'm glad I buckled down and did it.

I wonder if that has anything to do with how wild & crazy I got after high school...

My parents don't care if I get a bad grade among good ones. They know I like my teachers and I try really hard, just somethings are difficult. On my recent interim I got 3 As, 2 Bs and one C. The C was in health. I told my mom I absolutly hated that class, which I do and she understands. I do plan to bring it up but the class is just so boring. Health is important but there not teaching me anything I didn't already know, and I'm not planning on drinking, smoking, or doing drugs.

Anyhoo, my brother on the other hand is diffrent. He gets Ds and Cs more than anything else. As and Bs occationally. They ground him from the computer most often, video games sometimes. I think their way too easy on him. Hes lazy but hey, I was too at 14 I guess.

Meh..
My parents just let me..sorry, Make me do extra work on whatever I failed. I have to go through each and every excersize and do it in perfect order, no shorcuts. And they'll check my homework for the next few weeks.
The worst is when they refuse to sign my report card untill my teachers give me detention. Happened only last week.
They can't ground me...only 'cause i have no life worth ruining.
