MillieFan
NOTE: I don't want this thread to become a promotion of shonen ai/yaoi nor do I want it to be an argument. I'm only posting it because posting in another thread about some characters in FFIX reminded me of this. If anyone posts images or the discussion goes over the line, I request that this thread be closed AT ONCE. Does anyone think Frank and Vash were engaging in shonen ai in the episode "The Peacemaker?" I honestly don't *know* about this. In the first scene where it's implied, it looks like Frank's advances are definitely unwanted (i.e. Vash was begging Meryl, Millie, and all bystanders to rescue him, LOL). Nevertheless, later on, it could easily have been implied that when Vash got drunk, he lost his inhibitions toward it. Either way, the characters' "friendship" grew rather fast (even the girls or Wolfwood didn't become friends with Vash that quickly), and Frank would do anything for Vash. . .which would be kind of unusual if *all* they did was follow each other home, drink some more, and pass out. I'm not saying my theory's right, but it's kind of strange.
Kwai
I doubt they were actually that close... Besides... drunk people do crazy, drunk things. Besides, a drunk guy bonds with a drunk guy
eleanor
Yeah, at first when Frank jumped on Vash and pinned him to the ground, something shounen-ai...ing...was going on. But, after I watched the whole episode, it seemed like they were just really drunk.
Plant_Angel
Ah come on thats just silly! Im mean didnt even try anything with those two ladies who were all for a bit of "fun" on the sand steamer and he was drunk then...............or maybe we are suggested something entirely..........not nice about Vash....... I wont beleive it!!! Hes just a guy who makes freinds easy (and an alcoholic...)
MillieFan
Well, that could be assumed, but Vash does seem to fall for any somewhat respectable woman that crosses his path (from Rem to the sheriff-what was her name?- to Elizabeth to Jessica to Meryl, and it's hinted at several times that he's been involved with women) so I'm convinced this is "cultural shonen ai," because in Japanese culture very short-term male/male or female/female "encounters" are sometimes seen as an acceptable way of cementing a strong friendship, or so I've heard. Of course, I see that particular cultural practice as repulsive and promiscuous, but your thoughts of it may vary. And as for the theory that their bond came from their common drunkenness, the same thing happened with Wolfwood later on, so maybe that does present a non-shonen-ai explanation: unless the sites that pair him with Wolfwood are working from something. However, I don't agree with those sites so. . .
Plant_Angel
Its scary how some Doujinshi beleive that Vash and Wolfwood must eventually progress to some kind of bed scene........ Nope, I dont buy it either.
MillieFan
Especially since Wolfwood is definitely NOT gay.
Plant_Angel
Hey, Vash isnt either! .............I hope. Nah, he's not, HE'S NOT!!!
Shy
No, I doubt that any Yaoi was happening in that episode, and it seemed like both of them were just tremendously drunk. I have never been drunk before (silly ol' pure Shy,) but it seems like drunk people on television are willing to sleep with the first person they see, regardless of their gender. This is done for comedy relief, rather than romance. I have also heard that sexual encouters between close friends are not too uncommon in Japan. I point to the Sailor Uranus/Neptune relationship as something that many people to be a close friendship cemented with casual sex. In the Manga, Uranus and Neptune have a blantantly sexual relationship, but their sexuality in the Anime is very controversial. Anyway, I don't think that Vash is gay. Knives might be, though. He seems to be a little too obsessed with Vash, if you know what I mean. -Shy
MillieFan
LOL @ Plant_Angel. . .:D No, I don't think Knives is gay. I think he simply has less "humanity," and his interest in Vash is driven by revenge more than by anything else. . . By the way, when will my user title change? After 63 posts, I'm still a newbie, LOL!
Plant_Angel
I think you need 250 posts to become a Junior Member. Any day now....... ....... ... *snore* What? Eh?? Nah, Knives isnt gay, twincest, whatever! Well, he's only one of two.......but I doubt he has any plans to repopulate Planet Gunsmoke with his brother, Adam and Eve style (hmm, I wonder who's who?). Maybe Rem didnt get that far with their education.....anyway he has a better chance with Legato.
MillieFan
I deeply apologize for the previous contents of this post and for the direction I'm sending this thread in. As an anti-H advocate, I'm supposed to be better than lemon writers, not just like them. Will QA or Shy close this thread? It's served its purpose and is running some serious risk of becoming a hentai/lemon/whatever thread.
Plant_Angel
Good greif I hope not, thats all there is to say other than; None of them are gay None of them have any suspicious type relationships with supporting characters Frank Marlon especially Knives is an ok guy, he just has a few screws loose. And a superiority complex. Well, who doesnt?
MillieFan
I want this thread closed at once. I've PMmed QA and hopefully she will get online soon and lock it: because even I the anti-hentai advocate have stepped over the line into the lemon grove. This place is a powder keg ready to explode if someone else posts and doesn't edit. *MillieFan smacks herself with a large baka-mallet and walks out of the thread
Shy
Thank you for being so concerned about spam and flaming MillieFan, you are one of the best "newbies" we have had in a long time. Keep up the good work heh. This thread is closed. -Shy
Queen Asuka
Well, I don't see the problem with the thread being opened actually, since if someone did post hentai or spam I could always delete it. But whatever you guys feel more comfortible with. ^_^ Don't worry about the bad folks, MillieFan. I'll take care of them. :)
