DuoNDscythe
Who, in your opinion, is the best swordsman in all of anime. If you can't think of any swordsman, just respond about the best hand to hand fighters, excluding the DBZ fighters. Well unless you say Trunks. :demon:
MillieFan
I'd have to say that would be Kenshin. . .unless Cloud from FFVII counts. Hmm. I wonder who'd win the most votes if the Arena at theotaku did a match between Kenshin and Cloud. LOL!
Kwai
I dunno... what kind of anime swordsman is there really besides Kenshin? I think Rai-Dai the Blade was pretty cool too, but he was more of a sub-character. I think I like Aoshi from Kenshin too though. Nice strategy and awesome moves :)
WW2
I don't know, but I think Sejuro Hiko is the best swordsman. I mean he's Kenshin's teacher, and a master of the Hiten Mitsurugi style of swordsmanship. He's smart and he has more muscle which makes his attacks are more powerful than Kenshin's. This, added to his god like speed makes him almost undefeatable. But thats just my opinion. :D
Heaven's Cloud
As long as this topic is used for intelligent responses, I will keep it open. But if charecter bashing and/or plain "posting sloppiness" occurs, I will forward it to data heaven. As good as Kenshin is, I don't believe that he would be able to defeat Guts from Berserk. Guts is incredibly powerful and adept, he has no qualms about killing, and his sword is huge. Kenshin fought several opponents at once, but Guts defeated 100 men at one time and killed several demons. Another charecter that should not be left out is Jubei from Ninja Scroll. He killed several demons, and although he may not have the talent of the other two, he is incredibly cunning.
The Majin
Yeah i would agree that Jubei and that blind guy forgot his name are pretyy good i haveb't seen Kenshin yet but another good Swordsman would be Vicious form Cowboy Bepbop i mean look at this guy he doesn't even sleep
Kwai
I think the blind guy from Ninja Scroll is Utsutsu Mujuru or something like that(I don't think there even is a meaning for that...) I forgot to mention Shishio Makoto too :) Looks like an egyptian mummy wielding a sword. Too bad he only lasts 15 minutes... hes my next favorite after Aoshi in Kenshin. eleanor
Hiei is good, isn't he? He's amazingly fast...even though I've only seen about three Yu-Yu-Hakesho shows. But I'm still leaning towards Kenshin! I haven't seen many Rurouni Kenshin, but he impressed me in the episode where this guy has this really fexible, long sword. I forgot the plot, really. >.< I think if Cloud and Kenshin did go up against each other, Kenshin would win. Even though I LOVE Cloud.
Epitome
My favorite is Kenshin. I just love the way he uses his sword. He has so much style and technique. And since you said we could mention Trunks, I WILL!! I love his sword as well, especially when he kills Freeza when he comes back in time to help with Cell I think it was. KKC
I think Kenshin would be the best. He kicks butt really good! I think Trunks would'nt be a good swordsman because well.... *thinks hard* because he hasnt trained with it his whole life and stuff. and i just mean Trunks with a sword. no super strength and stuff.... Vertigo
I haven't seen any Kenshin, so I can't voice my opinion on him or Aoshi, but I personally like Vicious the best. I mean, everyone else weilds a gun in Cowboy Bebop, and Vicious kills them all with a katana. You've got to admit, that is pretty good. (Though I beg that people vote for Knives in the Arena. Nothing beats the Angel Arm/mind control/loss of one's essence)
Transtic Nerve
Kenshin probably has the most style and technique is his swordsmanship. You don't see that alot in other animes. I mean, Kenshin has a specific style he uses, based on a real style, with specific named attacks based on that style. It's more truthful, more realistic. It makes him that much better. Ofcourse his character is also very exagerated. So yeah. Who knows really. Kenshin was almost eaten by several people, so there's always a way. Kwai
Is Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu based on an actual style? I don't think I've heard of it but I've been cut off from the Japanese Kendo world for almost a year now so I dunno. And yes, Kenshin is heavily exaggerated :p Not only his character, but the destruction those swords can bring like cutting down a tree that easily, or making a huge crack in the ground... uh uh. Not happening unless ur some 80 year old master whos been training for 70 years or something.
Spikey
I'm gonna have to go with a lot of you guys, with Kenshin. I mean geez, Kenshin Himura Hiddukiri Bouttosi the man Slayer, the name says it all. I also thing Sanosuke Sagara also from Rouruni Kenshin is good too. He is a very skillfull swordsman. And is sword is frickin' huge. I be they are the ones with the best sword skills, atleast from what I can think of.
Epitome
I know of another swordsman but I cant think of the name off the top of my head. Im not sure if its an anime though. Oh i got it Samurai Jack. I like the show but I dont think its anime, but hes a good swordsman.

I'm not entirely sure if Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu is a real style, I've heard it was but I've not done research on it enough to tell you the truth. If it isn't, his whole stance is a more realistic style then lets say... D of Vampire Hunter or whatever. I mean, he uses a technique and just doesn't swing his sword around like a mad man. To answer the other question about Sanosuke. He uses a Zanbatou at the begnning of the series, which is a huge sword that was rather non-efficent in battle. Sano used it with efficency though, but because of it's weight, it is slow and not very manuverable, and anyone with a lighter sword could easily defeat anyone using it. Sano is much better with his hands.
Youko Minamino
Kenshin and Amidamaru. Hiei doesn't fit into this catergory as he only carries a sword, and isn't really a sword fighter. He just happens to use one.
Osmosis
I think Kenshin's Hiten Mitsugiri style is more a philosophy of combat than a series of set styles. Any kind of combat style where you're confined to a set series of stances/styles is ultimately self-limiting. Hiten Mitsugiri seems to be more the philosophy of attacking from a fairly neutral stance- eg. attacking while drawing your sword. This would be a practical mindset for samurai in feudal Japan, especially if they got jumped on the road by bandits or whatnot. Katana swordplay in general seem to utilize strong sweeping slashes. As to best swordsman, I don't think Sesshoumaru is out-and-out BEST, but he's certainly a very powerful one, based on observed abilities. His younger brother Inuyasha is already possessed of superhuman speed, and Sesshoumaru is easily much faster than that. He doesn't even really need to make physical contact with his sword in order to fight- he can toss around energy attacks with his sword with no visible effort. In fact most fights you can argue that he's not using his full power, again based on observed abilities.
BunnyBunny05
Kenshin has to be one of the best swordsmen out there! COME ON! Ya gotta believe me! LOOK! I'll tell you why.....see, not only can he be serious when it comes to battle w/the sword, but he clowns around w/it once in a while. Like that episode when he knocked that man up into the roof w/it...lmao. It was so funny! But still. He's the best AND IT'S A REVERSED BLADE SWORD! What more can you ask for?!?!?!?! :wigout: :babble: :smirk:  :D
Kwai
Attacking while drawing your sword is common when you attain a certain level... Its called Iai, and its like in the old wild western movies. Remember when the clock strikes 12, they quick-draw and fire? Same with swords. They used to have duels like that except they drew their swords and cut at the same time... And not all of kendo styles use strong sweeping slashes. In fact, using strong sweeping slashes is rare since it opens your defense and makes you vulnerable. Its more common to use sweeping attacks as a finisher. And based upon experience, the best, most balanced stance that can combat all forms of attack is chuu dan which basically brings the sword tip pointing at the opponent's throat while the hilt is pointing at your belly button. If the opponent attacks and you use your foot work, you need not move your sword while the opponent can impale himself if he misses. And Sesshoumaru is not a swords man... He can't even kill with his sword, Tenseiga for reasons which I will not state here because it will be a spoiler... If he isn't using full power, he better get on with the program since Inuyasha has been on a winning streak for a while...
Osmosis
Sesshoumaru definitely IS a swordsman. Follow the series further along to see. The argument can be made that Sesshoumaru doesn't use his full power because he typically doesn't see the need to. And of course, there's also the argument that he doesn't really want to kill Inuyasha. Have you noticed that most of his fights with Inuyasha he either wants to press information from him or is in more of a "teaching" mode?
Kwai
Yes and ever notice that Tenseiga(Sesshomaru's sword) isn't meant to fight? Its meant for healing? He doesn't use his sword because he doesn't want to. He can't cuz it won't harm anyeone.
Osmosis
Who ever said that the sword he uses when he's fighting is Tenseiga?
Chichiri's Girl
Well I can't think of anybody who is better than kenchin. i mean probly his teacher but I have nerver seen him in action. Of course mabey the saying"he who excels his teacher" comes into play here. Hiei IS good but his sword is like magic and stuff. He probly wouldn't be as good with a reverse blade sword. Be ides how many anime swordsmann do YOU know of can knock out a whole police force of men without sheding any blood.*note I am not referring to the manga* *Takes out Boton's broom thing and flyies off*
Kwai
Most I've seen Sesshoumaru do is fling his little light whip or his poison or his little transformation. If you are gonna say stuff, then state which eps, what sword and such -_-. Just saying your wrong won't help. Tell me why I'm wrong and show me evidence :p
