I love the movie. although if I hadn't read the what manga I had beforehand, I would've been totally lost ^_^', moreso than I was, anyway (I've only read half the manga series). the animation in that movie is awesome. if I hadn't known it was made in the late 80's, I would've thought the movie was made only recently. probably my favorites scene was when
Tetsuo was hallucinating in his hospital room, and the toys came to life and started attacking him.....or something....
. oi, it's been awhile since I've seen it. but that's what always sticks out in my mind for some reason 0_o'.

Well my fav scenes are...Well anyone with akiras bike in it :D

That thing has to be one of the coolest looking vehicles ive ever seen in an anime... ***starts drooling just thinking about it*** oh...what sorry blanked out there for a second...

Lets see the clowns vs kanedas group was really interesting too. I love how there lights kinda made nice streaking trails behind the bikes(wish mine would do that...)

And after all this time still one of the all time greats...I swear i think the animation in that things gonna stand the test of time for awhile

I admit the movie was good, but after reading the manga I was dissapointed. I don't think the manga was completed by the time the movie came out, so they changed the story around to fit the length of the movie. If you liked the movie, please check out the manga, its like a totally different story.

speaking of kira, i never uderstood what is the aura and what happened in the end (pls explain me lol) , but i didnt enjoy the movie that much, the blood was nice, the comperrison to real life wasnt bad either and the animation wa not that bad, but still i didnt love the movie, many gaps through the story, and the first time i watched it i didnt understand a thing, but i noticed it got better once i started (started) to understand it...

Which of the English dubs of Akira is better? The original Streamline dub featuring Cam Clarke or the remastered dub featuring Johnny Yong Bosch, Wendee Lee, and Joshua Seth? I personally prefer the new dub over the Streamline one, as I feel the new voices better captured the personality of the characters.

Ummm since when was akira an OVA(im assuming you mean OVA as in "Original Video Animation" since i dont know what OAV is)...Last i checked it was only a Manga and anime movie...

Anywayz the new dub is far better then the original theatrical one. The first one created a few plot holes because of the translation.

So ill def go with the second one. Pioneer did a good job on the reissue of cleaning up the picture quality and improving on the dub.

Well i dont know if this has been asked yet but I mean I wonder if it is possible if there will ever be a second movie (dont care if its a sequal or not. I mean I thought the movie was perfect and on some believes, I thought the ending was great but it left to many questions unexplored. I mean i know its based on the Japanese comic, which is like thousands of pages (at least thats what my friend read up on) so i could understand how hard it is to fit it all in a 2 1/2 hour movie. Like I would want to know what exactly happen to all of the characters (specifically Tetsuo). Plus I want to know if it resembled anything in real life's history and if they should expand on that in a second movie.

Also one last thing.....ummmm whats the link for the spoiler cover.

There is no way a second Akira movie could or should exist. Though many questions are left open, especially as to Tetsuo's true fate, it was a movie that was designed to make the audience think rather than place all the answers to you on a silver platter. There is no way there could be a sequel, and a prequel should remain out of the question. There's not really much we need to know about the beginning, and what little is not explained is found in the manga.

I agree with shadowdramon. What would they possibly put in a sequel? All they could do is the same but with different characters, or a half hour "Ok guys, so this is what I meant by....."

Nope, a sequel should most definately not be considered. Akira was a classic peice of art (whether you liked the film or not) and it should stand alone as just that.

Now that i think about u guys are right they shouldnt make a 2nd one its great the way it is. Instead though i would rather they take the Akira movie and divide it into 3 movies explaining in greater detail about the characters. I just couldnt get enough information on each one. Im not sure though, probably most people wont agree with me but i just thought knowing the characters a little better would be great.

What?! Akira was scary!? What is wrong with you? Well...first off, its not geared for young people...That is if you're young. Its not supposed to be fun. Its supposed to have meaning, it supposed to make you think. Its a great anime if you're into serious anime with little to no humor in it. Fortunatly Akira has redeeming funny moments. It is a landmark Anime and is one of the greatest. If you like Anime that has facial expressions and has bright fun colors as backgrounds. then Akira isn't for you. If you cant stand excessive violence, then Akira isn't for you. If you stand any nudity then Akira isn't for you. If you arent a thinker, then Akira isn't for you.
Now. If you like futuristic Sci-fi. Its the Anime for you. Its a great film, you just have to be into that genre.

The friends of mine who like anime like Akira. The friends of mine who don't like anime don't usually like Akira. I on the other hand liked it for many reasons. The animation tops most animes. It was very detailed and was pleasant to look at. The story was great, as well as thought provoking (that's always a plus). It was just all around a great movie.

your insane! akira is the greatest anime movie i have ever seen. it has so much character, and nice music. also, kick *** action scenes dont hurt either. i know its confusing at times, but anyone who has seen more anime than justdragonball z can appreciate that kind of thing.

Basically Akira isn't supposed to be fun. Its supposed to be a Sci Fi psychological thriller geared towards older audiences. Its some what of a thinking man's anime.

I personally think its a good movie, but after reading the manga, I knew it could've been better.
The Akira movie left out, and warped many story elements that were in the manga.
The main one being
that Akira was still alive in the manga, while in the movie he was dead.
But hey, most animes deviate from the original story.:D

AKira had a very apoctaliptic feel to it. It had alot of science involved and it was supposed too be a phylosphical movie. I got and i didn't get it. It was still very fun too watch though. Very creative deaths too.

Well the thing is it kinda has the matrix feeling that, "hey this might happen" and that freaks me out, I could barely go to sleep. Causing me to skip work. I am a thinker, Sometimes I think too much and makes me hesitate to do things. Its alot more thought provoking than the matrix cuz its more realistic. But another thing (Spoiler here) I missed The first 8 minutes and I saw the rest of the movie. But I never saw the case were Kaneda was bossing around Tetsuo and thats tetsuo's main reason to flip isnt it. and then at the end tetsuo says "Help! Kaneda!" thats a bunch of poop. Kaneda wanted to kill tetsuo then just run then if you want to kill him. And another thing, why did ryu follow that old guy and why did that old guy have a heart attack. sheesh I would like an explaination because its kinda confusing.\

Edit: and the funniest part about the music is the part when it goes "DUN!!! DUN!!! DUN DUN! *drum* *drum* LOL

i agree with WW2, the movie left out a lot of stuff and after reading the manga i understood it a lot better. i actually luv the way Akira is kind of scary and complex because u pick up more of the story every time u see it so maybe i luv it cuz i'm a freak  anyway if u really want to understand it, i think u shud try the manga or watch the movie again, i'm sure u'll pick up more of the story that u may have missed the 1st time =)

Hey there everyone,
Well, I fianally got the Akira special edition dvd in the mail and I have to admit, I was nervous about watching it. My friend had told me it was lame and there was, ahem, inappropriate stuff in it. So when my dad suggested we watch it, I panicked.

But really, Akira was awsome! I couldn't stop watching it; the music, the art and the special style of the animated dialog that made it realistic has captivated me. Not to mention tht Jonny Youn Bosch is the voice of Kaneda-he also plays adult Vash and that what's-his-name who does Tetsuo's voice does young Knives!
It's another movie which can be viewed on so many levels and of course, was controversial. ^^
If you've got any thoughts about Akira, please post them!
