Corey
Ah, but office work sometimes is the best. Haven't you ever seen Office Space? Our award thing is next week sometime. It's called The Rexnord Academic Awards Program. We get academic letters or chevrons for our jackets. I'm getting a chevron seeing as it's my second year in a row. Eh well. I'm not even going to dress up this year. Last year they made people wear halfway decent cloths. I don't really care.
wiccansamurai
i didnt really dress up... i luv that movie, but i think thats what made me not ever wanna work in an office... sitting in a cubicle, going over endless, meaningless numbers.... cubicle *shudders* i dont get it, i get good grades for 3 years in a row and get a piece of paper, joe gets good grades in 1 class, this year, and gets a big, heavy medal.... Charles
Achievement isn't something that can be measured by a certificate or a medal. Honestly, the self satisfaction that you feel after achieving success in school should be more rewarding than a little trinket. If you're happy with what you've done then your hard work has paid off. It'll all help you someday when it's time for you to go out into the work force. I'm sure that you'll receive the proper recognition for your grades when applying for colleges. I mean, my advice is to stop being selfish and be happy for the other guy. You shouldn't be so insecure that you need material prizes for your accomplishments. I guess I can understand your frustration though. It's probably an annoying situation. Just try to keep in mind what I've said. Maybe it will help. Now, I can't resist saying this one last thing: So you did well in art. Whaddya want? A medal?
Cora Jane 2
I know how you feel. Tuesday evening there was the "Honors Convocation". Though I did not go, I heard all sorts of things, that I wish I would have gone... only to talk some sense into those who got awards they did not deserve. Ah well. I guess me being in music for the past four years, doesn't deserve the "Outstanding Senior Award", but hell, I do deserve it more than the girl who got it. All she does is sit on her *ss and complain. I guess a person who has taken atleast five music classes (at school) plus private lessons, is undeserving of the award. *sigh* To hell with it. Ok, I'm done venting now. But as was already stated, office work can be better sometimes. And it isn't that you get the award, it's the effort you applied. As long as you didn't slack off and not apply effort, you should hold your head high in self-admiration, not in defeat, all because you didn't recieve an award/the award you wanted. Trust me it isn't worth all the grief. Just know that you did your best, and that you didn't give up, and you are a success. -Cora

Yes I'm mean. Yes, you complain too much. No I don't care. And I'm sure you'll make something more of your life, you got to try first.
klinanime1
Hey, look who's talking. "and then using then in a..." Don't take offense, it's like one in the morning here, and I'm stuck in a freezing cold basement so my parents won't know I'm up. Why do schools give those medals and things? They're useless, and will hardly go on your college resume (ah, ah, accent aigou! My French teacher'd kill me if she found out I left the accent out.). And who cares about "accomplishments?" What IS an accomplishment than what satisfies the mind?

vegeta rocker
Hahahaah big diffrence in typo. This i support, i spell(or curse ^-^) like a sailor on the mac and compete in spelling.... I have gotten a few awards but i don't wear them or anything. I have this friend Adam who feels he has to wear everything he has ever won. The only awards i get are for writing and reading. I hate the ceremonies though, they parade you around like a piece of meat. That has never happened to me in high school though. in jr high this guy william never left the stage at the graduation. He even gave a speech on Dante's Inferno (Divine Comedy). Ha! I don't get the big deal with scholarships either. Why would you want the whole school to know and have a big presentation at graduation night. Awards are luck. Take it from someone who receives them every once in awhile. I don't even wear my lettermen jacket, it is the uniform of tyrants. I have it shoved up in my closet. When i got it i braved the cold outside by wrapping it in my sweater so it would not be seen. My patches are out of sight in a spiderman lunchbox and my trophy (only one i haven't thrown away) is hidding behind my comic books.
pbfrontmanvdp
LoL academic awards dont mean a thing trust me. All that matters is what you do in college cause thats when your somewhat "on your own". Plus everyone is considered equal at college "at least thats what its like at mine", so i wouldn't even worry about it.

I, for one, had to swallow my pride last week. We had Honors Night and I ranked 11th in my class. What pissed me off? People that ranked in the top ten were folks who had taken the easy way out of school and taken easy college prep classes. One guy was even vocational. Here I was: someone who had worked so hard all of my high school career, taking every honors class, challenging myself constantly with harder classes every year, never opting for something easy. It truly irked me so MUCH that I wasn't in the top ten. But then I got to thinking: I knew that I had worked so hard, I knew how smart and intelligent I was, I knew that in the real world and in college I will go much farther than they will. And I also knew that I ranked higher than the stupid popular girl who won "Most Likely to Succeed" between me and her in the Senior Superlatives, and that was my goal ALL year. :D And I am also going to my University of choice. What more could I ask for? I am completely happy with my accomplishments now. ^_^

I hated how people in regular A class (im my classes in high school an A class is an average class so it goes B, A, honors, and AP) would have a higher GPA then me. Some of my friends would purposely go into A classes just to keep a high GPA, lol which would be too funny cause if you truly are smart and get an A+ in an AP or honors class its worth more (GPA wise) than an A+ in an A class. Even if so its better to always challenge yourself. Heres my quote for this topic: "Better to be motivated in the beginning by taking the harder way in life, and then see those who get obliterated later on by always taking the easy way in life". EcCenTriC fairy
I only get awards at my school's band awards ceremony. ;) My freshman year, I got a letter for my school jacket. This year I hope to get a bar to go with that. What sucks is that I don't get recognized at the school awards ceremony for being in the National Honors Society.
Kwai
Awards and what not really do not matter. Some people getting all-sorts of awards and certificates without working, is gonna be screwed over in college(or life). You really do not know how their life will turn out, and doing good in school does not equal succeeding in life. I'd rather be screwed over in school and succeed in life rather than vice versa. School composes only 13 ~ 17 years of your life(even though I admit they are probably the most important). Life lasts far longer. And if those people who got the awards did not work for it, chances are, they will not work for the other things, and will fail in it. Anyway, its their life. If you did your best, there really isn't anything you can complain. Perhaps they worked harder. Just ask yourself if you truly tried your best and if the answer is 'yes', then be proud. Not many people can say that. And besides, its not you. Worry about yourself. Let the present day victors celebrate. Work diligently, and overthrow them tomorrow. Rather than complaining, push yourself to the limit, reach for the skies, and if you failed today, succeed tomorrow.
amibasuki
I went to our school's honors night about a week ago and got one, yes one, award. it's this patch you put on your letterman jacket called Scholar Musician for the people who were in marching band that had honor roll during the football season. then I got my letter at the band banquet a few days later, and a bumper sticker for my nonexistant car at the drama banquet last Monday (drama department's broke). I'm pretty satisfied with what I got, considering I originally didn't think I'd get anything (I'm lucky to have an overall B right now :worried: ). maybe I'll do better if I kick more of my Type A personality up for next year. plus, I got a whole slew of helium balloons after the band banquet, so that was pretty cool. I didn't know my voice could go so high :whoops:.

He shows off so much--I dread being a senior and having to deal with more of it. A few of our seniors this were were NMS semi-finalists/finalists, and wow--has he been milking that for all he can. I'm pretty sure the entire city knew about it before it was supposed to have been announced. And Tori--Good for you. ^_^
wiccansamurai
sum of u didnt understand. sure office work is ok, if u care about it or just want lots of money, but since i have neither of those reasons, i REALLY dont wanna do office work. they did give out a medal for art, and i thought id get it. as for the mispelling,1, i like spelling stoopid that way, and if u ever seen ne of my other posts i call nething stoopid, its spelled like that. 2, it was like really early in the morning when i ty-ped this, and it WAS a typo, stoopid... jk.
