Dohatri kept down, raising his gun over the ledge to fire in the direction the bullets were coming from. Suddenly, a light "thump" startled him. Quickly, he turned to see the other ancient, ducking low as he speedily made his way over, several bullets wizzing behind him and over his body- a few almost hitting their marks. He knelt down, and they shook hands, exchanged their names, before silence fell as rounds kept on slamming into their cover and flying overhead. Dohatri's mind's eye was constantly looping, searching for the easiest way out of this situation- but suddenly the bullets all-together stopped, and Dohatri carefully glanced over the edge, his eyes scanning the street and finding no sign of the gangsters.

Dohatri: Maybe we pulled out lucky?

His eyes carefully scanned, both of them spotting the lone gangster right below them at the same time. The armed robber had something in his hand, punching fervently at it, low "beeps" confirming each action he made. Dohatri aimed and fired, but he tossed it overhand and ran for cover quickly, dissappearing into an alleyway.Both of the Ancient's eyes followed the object as it arched upwards magestically, before falling downwards just as quickly.

Strife: I doubt that.

Clink, clink, clink

A small, round metal container rolled to their feet, a flashing red light ticking down slowly. Both of them, with the aid of their unnatural reflexes, lept off the roof in differing directions- Dohatri with a little less finesse than Strife. A deadly gas began to seep out, rising and expanding placidly intill it had overtaken the whole roof. Dohatri leaped up and ducked for cover as a quick wall of bullets punctured everything around him. He jumped, rotateing to the side with a spin, and fired at one of the armed robbers, his momentum carrying him into an alleyway. Not entirely use to his physical being, he stumbled backwards out of control- but the screams from the gangster confirmed that he had hit his mark, a second scream announceing that Strife was on the offensive as well.

Catching himself against some railing, he shook his head to clear his mind before sprinting foreward briefly and halting at the edge of the alley, cautiously peeking around the corner. Loud footsteps from off in the distance caught his attention- he saw a small group of people, all dressed in the same sort of civil uniform, running down the street twards them, some of them carrying small bags of medical equipment, a few with swords drawn, ready to strike. A startlingly loud "GET OUT OF HERE GUYS, WE STILL GOT SOME OF THE LOOT" blared out from one of the alleys, fadeing footsteps followed- sounding further and further away which each one.

Dohatri: Strife?

Strife: Here.

He stepped out of one of the alleys, over the dead gangster who had a large slit in the midst of his stomach, cirmson blood oozeing out around his body and forming a small pool- his kill. I glanced to the side, where a gunshot riddled carcass leaned oddly against the wall, his face locked in a final scream of agony, the same red color flowing silently down the wall he rested on.

Dohatri looked back to Strife, who stared at the oncoming uniformed unknowns.

Dohatri: Do you think we should evacuate from here as well?

offgame: Not at all, Ohkami! I was actually waiting for somebody to join me.
************
ongame:

Torean looked at Fenrir. What a big change from a giant moon-howling wolf to this dashing wizardess.
Torean: "You know what, Aiko? I was just on my way to the Central Administration Building, you know, the supposed base of evil, and I was wondering if you would like to pretend to be my assistant."
Aiko: "Assistant? You mean as in... work for you?"

The tone in her voice scared me a little.
Torean: "OR let's just say a partner."
Aiko: "Now that's better. What are we doing there?"
Torean: "Oh, just some undercover business with the Prime Council Gojo. You remember him, the one who digs up mythril for weapons of mass-distruction from beneath the Crescent Mountains?"
Aiko: "Yes, so?"
Torean: "Well, I was thinking we could invest in those mines."
Aiko: "What?! And keep them going? Ripping of the blood of the Great Earth?! Ramuh, are you out of your mind?!"
Torean: "Please don't call me that here in the middle of the street. But think of this as a chance to gain access to the mines and cause some mass-destruction of our own."
Aiko: "Mmm... I've got to admit I like the sound of that..."
Torean: "Good! Let's go before this cursed sun boils me to this spot."

With my new partner-in-sabotage I continued my way towards the tallest of the buildings: a giant skycraper literally scraping the sky. I hoped we might bumb into some other of our kind...

Strife: Yeah. We should leave before the police find us.

Dohatri: Yeah. That would only cost more complications.

Strife: We should split up. I'll meet you at the train station in the Industrial District.

Dohatri: All right. I'll meet you there.

Strife wall jumped on to the roof of the building near him. When he was at the top he could hear Dohatri's footsteps sounding further away with each one. Strife saw the uniform uniformed soldiers searching for any injured civilians. The others were inspecting the dead bodies of the gangsters. Strife turned away from the scene and jumped from roof to roof headed for the Industrial District's train station. Once he was there he planned to talk to Dohatri about what they were to do about the source of the evil.

Strife was now pretty far from the scene of the battle and thought that it would be safe to go back on the streets. He looked for an alleyway that was empty and jumped down making sure that no one saw him. He then walked out. He headed for the Industrial District. As he headed there he tried to sense if any other Ancient's were around. As Strife walked down the streets headed for the Industrial District he wandered if Dohatri had made it out of the battle scene safely.

Something clicked,
As Ivan headed out into the streets of the industrial district, he felt a presence...
"...! An ancient force? Let's see...1...2...3..no..two, yes two. I can feel them heading to the same location, but where?" He starts running into the streets, trying to find where the two where headed to, "There!" He thinks, and heads over to the train depot.

"Ohhhhhh thats bright." Calais gazed at the upper plates theatre district with a distinct awe. Wild lights and loud music made the area so much more alive than the others she had passed through.

"Alright Cecil we're here. Now lets not get too distracted by all this. We got a job to do after all." She pulled the large white cloak she had borrowed from a lady she met on the street not long ago and wrapped it tightly over herself. Covering up her cut up outfit and leaving only the flowing ends that always surrounded her. Finally tucking the doll under the cloak as well, she looked remarkably like a rich citizen of the core.

With a final sigh she pulled herself upright and bend her nose upward before walking into the ever swelling crowd.

Walking out through the immense library doors beside Zara, Ariel found herself in a rundown old street, abondoned buildings lining each side. When the huge doors slid shut behind her, Ariel turned around to see that the library looked no different from its surroundings on the outside. To a casual observer on the street, it would be hard to tell that it was occupied. Its walls were scored and cracked, with graffiti coverering most of the surface.

Ariel shivered, even though it was late afternoon and not at all cold. "It makes me want to go back inside," she said as they continued walking down the dirty sidewalk.

"You get used to it after a while."

Ariel looked about, staring as a few bums leared at them. She couldn't imagine how she would ever be able to get used to this, but she hoped Zara was right.

As it turned out, their journey to Zara's apartment complex was rather uneventful. Other than some drunk coming up and asking them for some "entertainment," to which his answer was a sharp smack on the hand from Zara's scepter, they encountered no one and there was little talk between them.

"This is it," Zara finally said as she stopped and ran a keycard through a slot in the door of a large building. The door slid open with a small groan, and Ariel follewed her in. The lobby of the apartment complex looked old and slightly dusty, and the pair hurried through into the elevator leading up to the apartments themselves. The door slid closed behind them, and Zara punched one of the many buttons on the wall.

Ariel blinked. "56?"

Zara looked over to Ariel, a blank look on her face. "Yes?"

Ariel looked away shyly. "Nothing. . . . That's just the floor of the library that I appeared on."

"The top floor?"

Ariel nodded silently, remembering the view from the windows.

"Well, this building goes a lot higher," Zara said and gestured two the rows of buttons by the door, the highest of which was labeled '82.'

"Do you have . . . windows in your apartment?" The memory still pained her, the sight of the huge, all-encompassing city staining the land with its pollution.

A slightly quizzical look this time. "Yes. Why?"

"Nothing, I. . . . Nothing." She shook her head, ridding herself of the memory as the elevator doors slid open and they stepped out into the hallway. "Sorry."

"Don't worry about it. Like I said, you get used to it after a while," Zara said as she slid the keycard through the lock mechanism on another door, this one opening into her apartment. Stepping inside, Ariel looked around. The apartment and few pieces of furniture were rather plain, though by no means rundown. Much like the library, the inside of this building was much nicer than its outward appearance suggested.

"I only have one bed, but there's a sofa over there." Zara gestured at a sofa against the wall in the back-left corner of the room. "You can take your pick."

Ariel drew a blank. "What?"

"To sleep on."

"Oh. The sofa is fine, thanks." She walked over and sat down on the sofa; it was comfortable enough, and wouldn't be too hard to sleep on. In fact, sleep was sounding pretty good. It had been a long walk and she was tired, the sun having set about an hour ago. She yawned.

"Tired?" Ariel nodded, in the middle of another yawn. "I suppose it is getting late. I think I'll be going to bed too. If you get hungry or anything, help youself." Zara pointed over at the small kitchen area off on the other side of the room, and then walked down the hall to the apartment's one bedroom.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The next morning, Zara found Ariel already up, sitting on one of the stools next to the counter in the kitchen area. She was peeling an orange out of a fruit bowl, and the dawn sunlight was streaming in through the window on the east side of the room, across from the door.

"Sleep okay?" Zara asked. She glanced over at the open window, then back at Ariel, who was smiling as she ate the orange.

"Fine, the sofa was great."

"Hmm, good. You know, I don't think you ever told me which Ancient Force you are."

Ariel blushed slightly before answering. "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm Starlet."

"Ah, okay. I'm Atomos."

"Okay. So, what are we going to do today?" Ariel asked, cheerful and smiling once again as she finished the orange.

Ciiahn was increasingly certain that these humans should never have ever been able to do anything with their existance. Considering the fairly run down inn he was staying in, he wouldn't be surprised if they hadn't. For a former demonoid creature with a nasty reputation, having people look down their noses at him was grating on his nerves. His complete lack of ability to find someone interesting to talk to, Ancient Force or otherwise, was another limiting factor. Another morning, another pain in the *** round of sunlight.

Slowly get up...avoid looking at the windows...living most of one's life in darkness then this was a rather...interesting experience. Sure, it was alright when he was doing something, but something in this chemical morass that was a human brain didn't take well to his old introversion. It was settling down now though, he suspected he'd be the same old social non-entity he'd always been. There was something to be said for letting one's sense of humour get the better of one when one could barely move. Ciiahn wasn't sure what it was though. And he wasn't sure what he drank last night. But it was a lot.

He finally found the door and stumbled out. Ending up in the bar itself, there was a suddenly a resounding cheer, and someone was engrossed in injuring his back. Actually, multiple people were.

"You get enough into you?"

"Hell, you're doing alright walking after that!"

"Damn! I'm surprised your remotely human given that display last night"

Ciiahn's response was a low mutter.

Ciiahn: I'm not.

There was a hoot of laughter, then cold. A lot of cold. And wetness. Damn the idiot with the bucket of water. Ciiahn looked around in painful clarity. He felt like hell. And he was being given hell. And this world was hell. But hey, last night had been..interesting.

Ciiahn: Anyone got a drink?

There was a stunned, appreciative, silence.

Zara sat to the opposite of Ariel. She looked outside thoughtfully.

The morning light was not as pure as it was in the countryside. But rather, the morning looked like the dark orange dusk of the evening before. There was no true daylight in the city.

Ariel looked at Zara, who appeared to be deep in thought. She noticed that Zara was quite a flawless woman, with finely shaped features and long dark hair, which traced her spine and which never seemed to be anything but neat.

Zara glanced at Ariel. "Today we have somewhere to go," she said.

"Oh?"

Zara nodded. "Yes. Have you ever heard of Sublime 7?"

Ariel shook her head. "No, I haven't."

Zara stood up and walked around the counter to where Ariel was sitting. She sat on a stool beside her and spoke quietly and deliberately, as though she didn't want anyone else to hear.

"Sublime 7 is a nightclub in the northern sector. It's a dangerous place; full of thieves, drug dealers and who knows what else. But we have to go there this evening."

"Why?" asked Ariel.

"Because that's what we are here for. We are here to learn of the forces that are ruining this earth. And we have to stop them. Sublime 7 is owned by a powerful tycoon who owns half of this city. He's a prime source of the crime and pollution that permeates the streets of the city," said Zara.

"Oh, I see. I'm not sure if I can stomach another trip into the city..." Ariel winced.

"You will be fine, Ariel. Together we will be okay. I will protect you," said Zara softly.

offgame: Please, DJ, put a little more effort to your posts. A two line post is... not a good thing. Describe the environmetn or something if you can't give lenght to your post otherwise.

And since nobody else joined me and Aiko to meet the Prime Council, I'll go on then.
******

I entered the Central Administration Building with the woman I met in the street. I bought her a new piece of clothing, so that we blended to the people inside the building. Everybody were looking awfully busy and important, but I knew it was just a cover I saw. Within these people I sensed fear, anxiety, greed, lust and all the emotions of human nature. We walked to the reception desk.

Receptionist: "Can I help you?"
Me: "Yes, you can. My name is Torean Trifle, and this is my partner Aiko. We are here to meet Mr. Gojo."
Receptionist: "Please go to the 111th floor, and intorduce yourselves to the secretary."
Me: "Thank you. We'll do that."

I noticed people cramming to the little moving room called elevator.

Me: "That should take us up."
Aiko: "I do not like it. It can fall down."
Me: "Would you prefer walking upstairs 111 floors?"
Aiko: "Elevator it is!"

Ten minutes later we entered the expensive looking office, and introduced ourselves to the secretary.

Secretary: "Yes, Council Gojo is expecting you, Mr. Trifle. Please go in."

At the room was Council Gojo sitting behind his desk, a large window behind him. But there was also another being in the room: a tall man dressed completely in white, with white hair and pale skin. As he looked at us, I saw that his eyes were red. Aiko let out a little growl. That man was an Ancient Force!

Zerano: Grr.... I'm not going to play around here... I better get to town.

Zerano moved swiftly out of the forest and ran to the nearest town.

Zerano: This town.....it's so big.

Zerano entered into some bar.

Man: hahahaha....look at that weirdo there.

Zerano: Grrr.....Better shut your yap.

Man: Make me.

Zerano took out his Katana and lunged at him. He landed on the table and pointed his sword at the man.

Zerano: Live or die?

Maxwell Johnson had never truly been considered a handsome man, but with the amount of money he has there had never been a lack of woman coming onto him. Yet in all of his life he had never seen anything this obvious. He had barely been able to concentrate on the play for the past hour since she had been flirting with him non-stop and whispering most uncivilized things into his ear.

Every part of his brain told him to just call security and have her removed, yet his brain wasn't really what was in charge in right now.

"Alright dear, as soon as this play has finished I will personally take you to see my work." The girl relaxed visibly and rested her head on his shoulder. Maxwell turned atleast part of his attention back to the play where the star Maria was singing about her lost love Draco.

Beneath her cloak Calais silently petted her doll while darkly smiling to herself.

The albine man stood up, and offered me his hand to shake.
White man: "My name is Xeed Alba, nice to meet you."
Me: "I'm Torean Trifle, and this is my partner Aiko."
Gojo: "Whahaa, Mr. Alba here is the wealthiest man in this damned rat-hole! Let's just say he's my own secret sponsor."

The Prime Council winked his eye in a disturbing way.
Gojo: "And, if I understood correctly, so will be you, Mr. Trifle."
Me: "Mmm... Yes."
Xeed: "Now, my friend Gojo here tells me that you're interested in the mithril mines of Crescent Mountains?"
Me: "That is correct. I see a worthy object of investment in them."
Xeed: "Hmm... Well, let us all sit down and ponder on this matter."
~~~~~~~
An hour later I, Aiko and Xeed exited the Prime Councils office and entered the elevator.
Xeed: "So, Mr. Trifle, you've shown remarkable greed in this matter."
Me: "And...?"
Xeed: "Well, let's just say it's a little peculiar for your kind."
Me: "What do you mean?"
Xeed: "Oh come on! We both know what is going on here, so why pretend? Now, just tell me, what are you up to?"
Me: "No, what are you up to? I can see you're one of the Lost Ones, and you've come here to control this city. You know that it's forhibided!"
Xeed: "Listen, Mr. Trifle, or whoever you are: nothing is forhibided for the Lost Ones!"
Exactly then the elevator doors opened, and Xeed Alba dashed out. Aiko glanced at me.
Aiko: "That man is trouble."
Me: "Don't tell me..."
Strife had finally made it to the Industrial District. It was along walk but he was able to see other parts of the city as he walked to the Industrial District. This world was deeply in trouble, or at least this part of the world. There were many other places in this world and they may be in better condition. All the terrible things he had seen throughout the core had made him hate the humans but also wanting to save them from their misery.
Strife stood in front of the train station waiting for Dohatri.
Announcer: Train 7 now leaving for the Theater District. The next train is headed for the Business District.
As the train left for the Theater District Strife could sense an Ancient leaving the area. He guessed that that Ancient was on the train headed for the Theater District. He didn't plan to try to catch up with that Ancient. He decided to stay and wait for Dohatri and maybe another Ancient that he could sense coming his way.
Mr. Maxwell Johnson had thought today was just his lucky day. His kid was out and being successful on his own, he had seen a great show at the theatre, and met quite a nice young lady who his wife would have never had to know about. Things had just seemed so perfect.
Of course Mr. Johnson was never known for his brilliance, or else he might had wondered why this lady was so determined to only "get down to business" at his job. It wasn't exactly a romantic location. Just the biggest television broadcast tower in the Core.
Located on the edge of the upper plates industrial district, the Penzati tower boosted the signals of over 4000 different stations and broadcast programs every day.
Of course none of that matters anymore since Mr. Johnson is no longer really capable of thought. Not exactly dead and not technically alive, his unblinking eyes stared mindlessly at the ceiling. His body sprawled onto the ground with the chair he had been setting in collapsed into pieces next to him. The room was pretty large and had nearly thirty monitors stretched about it. It was one of nine security booths the tower had. Mr. Johnson had privately ask the guard to double up on one of the other security booths for the night.
Of course Mr. Johnson's body wasn't alone in that room.
Calais sat in the main chair watching one of the monitors with an unwavering gaze. There was a man on that screen busily typing away at a terminal. She watched his every movement with her doll seated on her lap. She had discarded her white cloak and was back to her cut up silk outfit.
"And I think that's enough don't you Cecil?"
The doll knight turned and nodded at her in agreement.
"Very well then." She said while standing up and gracefully moving over to the door. "Lets get over there and get this game started. It's going to be a night to remember."
