Shinken
First off, this isn't a political topic, even though the title makes it appear so. But, anyways; Around the end of the school day, a fight broke out between a friend of mine and some punk. I was at the other end of the hall, and I decided to get a better look. I pushed through the crowd and just caught a glimpse of the two guys slapping each other in the face and rolling around on the ground! Sure, my friend's a wrestler, so the rolling is understandable. But SLAPPING?! That just doesn't make sense! After that fight, I began wondering; why is it that a lot of people just can't fight/defend themselves any more? I'm not the kind of person that will just up and pick a fight at any given moment, nor do I enjoy seeing others fighting (unless I really don't like them  ), but I'm just saying that people should be able to at least throw a punch or something! I mean, it took a teacher a good minute to notice the fight, and neither one had a scratch on him! Hitokiri Battosai
nezzyjean
That is pretty pathetic. ::shakes head sadly:: Even I can throw a decent punch.
WW2
Its seems as each new generation comes into exsistence, the people become weaker. Why is this? I really don't know, but maybe its because they become more and more dependent on technology and other people to do their work. They have become so lazy that they don't concern themselves with thoughts of defending themselves, thus they don't really know much about how to fight. But thats just my opinion.:D
Kwai
People need to learn martial arts more... but then again... I do recall seeing some Black Belt kid scratching his opponent once in a fight... I guess people panic and lose everything when it comes to an actual fight... And besides... people just go out and get a gun when they want to defend themselves these days... I personally scorn and contempt people who lean on their guns, but nevertheless... anyone, and I mean anyone can kill with a gun... Just point and shoot. Technology is slowly progressing into self-defense...
Manic Webb
... oh my [insert deity of choice here] You're kidding me! They were slapping each other? I'm against violence and all, but slapping? Are you sure they were really fighting and not practicing a slap-stick comedy routine? Who slaps?! Pimps (who are famous for their slapping techniques) do more than slapping every now and then. I don't know if it's more funny or pathetic.
Epitome
Okay, maybe one slap across the face, maybe two, BUT JUST PLAIN SLAPPING. You should get your friend there some boxing lessons or something. klinanime1
They were slapping... 2 guys slapping? How do they do that if they're trying to prove a point? I mean, my friends and I punch and kick each other for fun, or just if the other's being stupid. And we're the girls who hate sports.
DeathKnight
There is a difference between learning a style and learning discipline. Any person who can have the state of mind to concentrate and examine the fight they are in can win, even if they dont know a set style or martial arts/fighting. I street fight alot, sometimes with daggers/knifes and it is sometimes very difficult to regain the sense of presence to not just panic and flail about hopeing to damage your opponent. Learning Martial Arts is good because they combine alot of discipline with it- However, I believe that if you have enough discipline and intelligence in tactical fighting, you can easily win any fight that you might be in- Even when weapons aside from fists are involved. Plus, I know from expierence that if you are slapped hard enough it can hurt- for awhile. Especially if the person that slaps you has long, painted nails and is extremely mad at you for makeing an innapropriate comment. Pain ~.~
Kwai
Referring to an ex-gf DeathKnight? *snickers and hides* Slapping as in horizontal left-right or right-left slap right? If its a straight blow with the palm, then yeah, it can hurt... especially if whoever does that knows martial arts and to channel some strength there. Street Fights are rather simple cuz usually, they just get heated over some 'yo mama is so fat....' stuff and they just get pist and start throwing punches, then one guy takes out a knife... and basically, its just a mob. Mobs suck at fighting. Knives has an incredibly short range(unless thrown), and all you need to do is have a stick(any will do...), and make sure u knock the knife down or just smack them in the face before they charge u... Slapping... hmm... I saw a cat fight once... and even they were actually punching and kicking and throwing each other to the ground and so forth... Slapping... man... you should have taped it :p Kinda off topic, but how many of you guys actually know a style of martial arts? I take Yagyu Shinkageryu Style for swords
Delian
Well first of all, it's good that they didn't get hurt....although I don't see how slapping can do any damage among boys. I mean even a girl fight has more "oomph" in it, with all the hair pulling and eye gouging... Even I can throw a mean punch when there's a reason for it. But seriously, your friend needs to learn some martial art discipline....not to beat up people, but to be able to defend himself when a more serious situation arises. Transtic Nerve
Being in a fight period proove mankind has lost it... well really they never lost it cause they never had it. Mankind are nothing but animals with the ability to reason, and most of the time they lack that ability to reason, hence why we have fights/wars/etc, thus making mankind no better than the cat or dog in your backyard. pbfrontmanvdp
People who cant fight is pathetic, i mean its kinda obvious that you need to throw a punch if ur gonna go anywhere in a fight. Of course talking comes first but if that doesnt work at least you have to know how to punch. And doing it school i mean if they didnt want to get in trouble they should have done it out of school, but still if they both just started fighting and they were going to get in trouble anyway then they should have at least started throwing punches. No i dont start fights at all but if im going to have to get into one im not going to keep punching till they cant get back up or someone holds me back. You don't have to know how to throw a punch to win a fight. There simple ways. You can walk away, you can not put yourself in the position to begin with, or you can defend yourself. And that doesn't mean hitting them first, it means blocking what they do after they do it, not before. There's no reason to get in a fight with someone. Not one logical reason. It's pure stupidity. You're not gonna change how they act, or change their mind. You're just gonna hurt them to do what? Nothing, so whats the point? So you can look macho... hahaha look like a fool instead. Heaven's Cloud
To begin, I think fighting is mostly pointless, especially over an insult or a slight. I wanted that to be clear before I make the following comment. I think that most of you are blowing smoke out of your ***. All I am reading is that "it is sooo pathetic that these two didn't know how to defend themselves". I seriously doubt that so many of you (by so many, I mean in general terms, because every time a thread about fighting rears its head everyone is Ali) are studying "blah and blah's" style of martial arts. Most of you (I'm sure there are some exceptions) have been exposed to martial arts via TV and nothing else. So quit stating that it is pathetic that people don't know how to fight. I pretty much guarentee that if someone the size of myself or Ken (DK) hit you it would really hurt, and I know that if someone attacked me the only leverage I have is my athleticism and my minute amount of wrestling ability from Jr. High school. The best way to defend yourself is to not pick fights...studying martial arts should be no different then playing basketball or lifting weights, you should do it because you enjoy the sport, not because you want to defend yourself or hurt people. Mei
Yup, I agree, fighting IS pointless....on certain occasions.>> Sometimes fighting is good...like when you're really mad at someone, who you let your nails grow out, paint them, and slap the crap outta'em!(jk..>> kukukuku!) Well, anyways, slapping eachother may just be they're little way of expressing hatred.>>() Different strokes... Also, mankind lost it a LONG time ago.Oo It's been gone forever...what is it though? Noooooobody knows...or do they?>>*cough*Well back to the topic, two boys slapping eachother is indeed strange, but that's life for ya.Oo People do weird things, that's how it will always be.
Shinken
I don't know about that, Heaven's Cloud. I don't think that ALL fights are stupid. If someone repeatedly picks fights with those who can't fight back as well, aka BULLY, then they need to be taught a lesson. I'm not the kind of person who condones pointless fighting, but sometimes... ACTIONS speak LOUDER than WORDS. Hitokiri Battosai PS: Heaven's Cloud, when you said that one should take martial arts not "because they want to defend themselves, or hurt people", uh... That's what martial arts are. Self-defense. Kwai
Occasionally, those who do take martial arts take it because they want to beat up their school bully, act tough to get girls, etc. Those are weak reasons to being martial arts, and they usually won't last. I started martial arts simply because I wanted to be stronger, and I think that that is the best reason to start as a kid. And martial arts were originally an art to defend or to kill... not for fun...

Masked_Man
mankind is the dumbest race there ever will be. my reason for this is 1.we fight wars for..........(can someone answer) 2.we will sooner or later be the cause of our own death and i could go on and on but i wont as for ur friend i suggest he learn how to fight because every living thing is only worried about its own surivial if u want to admit it or not. However, I still believe that those who become the best in martial arts is someone who starts with the simple desire to be stronger.
Justin
I actually agree with Harry. I think moderate physical punishment is the best way to raise a child...at least until he comes to a certain age. When that age is reached, spanking has little affect on him, but that's another story. Fighting is pretty pointless...and also against my religion; However, that's not to say if someone hit me I'd have the precense of mind to walk away. I haven't had a conflict come to that since Christ found me, so I can't honestly tell you what I would do. -Justin
Solid
i think heavens cloud has a really good point, i have been in a fight once in my life, (and im very ashamed that i coudnt control mysrlf better that time). i think wrestling or any other material arts should not be used to cause any damage at all, i find a material -art as ART, it is cool to practice it and very fun, but using a hjobby or profecion to give someone a certain damage aint really nice. as for the situation you describe, i think it sounds a bit pathetic, but its better this way than another... (<AA>)
That happened to me once '_'; It was more an instinct thing... a guy wanted a fight, and instead of punching me... he slapped me. Well, before I could control my self, I realized, my palm was kissing his cheek... But then we kicked. Oh yeah we foguht like MEN! For a good second, before the other kids broke up the fight.
