That's right. Ladies, and gentlemen it's time to place your bets. The two most recognized of villains in the horror genre are set to go at it in a movie simply called Freddy vs. Jason. Freddy Krueger haunted his victim's dreams to slaughter them in their sleep, while Jason stalked them when they were awake. According to records Jason holds the title of most body count with just a bit over one hundred kills, as for Freddy. He only has a little over forty, but he's still one of best when it comes to horror. I grew up watching the two horror icons, and while I never really cared for Nightmare on Elm Street movies I thought Freddy Krueger was an awesome character. But Jason Voorhees has always been my favorite, as were the Friday the 13th films.

The movie is set to come out August 15th, and I am really looking forward to it by the looks of the trailer, which can be seen HERE.

I'd like to get some opinions on this, and perhaps get some discussion going about Freddy vs. Jason.

... I'm not quite sure if I want to see this. I thought the Nightmare on Elm Street series sucked, and wow, the newer Friday the 13th incarnations are awful. If I hear that it's any good, I'll watch it, but otherwise I don't think I'll waste my money.

I don't think it matters that either of the series have sucked for years. What matters is the question that's as old as both of these movies will finally be answered. Who would win.

The first Nightmare on Elm Street was pretty good for its time I thought, especially on its budget. Wes Craven is a great director I think and from what I know, he had very little to do with most of the following films as it is. The original and New Nightmare were both pretty solid movies.

And Friday the 13th was always just more fun and unusual than scary. Jason in Space was fun to watch I thought. People go in expecting something sophisticated or some thing I guess. That's never going to happen. Even the people involved in making these films treat them as a joke at this point.

I think teaming them up is pretty interesting. For one, Freddy's power is pretty cool... and from what I understand Freddy will be going inside of Jason's dreams, which I imagine will be very messed up heh. Assuming that's true.

Anyway, definately won't win any awards, but I think it will be fun. Especially because the film seems to play on the fact that no one thinks Freddy or Jason are scary anymore.

Anyway, I'll wait for the DVD.

Hmmm...I actually expected more people to be looking forward to this. But anyway it's been in the making for a long time. If anyone has seen both Jason Goes To Hell, and Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, then they'd know that Jason and Freddy made very small appearances in the other's movie. In Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare Jason supposedly picked up Freddy's glove after his demises, I have seen the movie but I don't remember this part. I may have to check it out again, but this is what I read on the net about it. Also at the end of Jason Goes To Hell Freddy's hand came up from the ground and pulls Jason's mask to hell with them.

So it's obvious that they have been planning a cross over movie between the two for a while now. Well, I understand your feelings on not seeing it because of some of the disgraceful movies made involving the characters. But this movie still looks good to me, and the fight scenes between the two look awesome in the trailer.

At first this didn't even look mildly interesting. I'm a fan of both of the movie series, but two people standing there stabbing eachother seemed pretty boring.

But then I saw the trailer and I realised that there were going to be people to kill too. =D My only question is, why do they want to kill eachother?

Well, both of them kill people at random and I'm guessing that both feel the other is muscling in on their territory. Jason, and Freddy both want to have everyone to themselves, but with the other in the way he'll have to deal with the loss of some victims by the other's hand instead of his own.

It seems like a huge territorial thing, and it sounds pretty cool because from what I hear. Jason will in fact invade Elm Street, and Freddy will haunt Camp Crystal Lake. That is until they come together and real sparks fly.

Well i for one am looking forward to this one. While Im not a huge fan of the early films theres a few i really liked...Im sorry i thought Jason X was good(comeon people he threw a half naked chick in a sleeping bag and used it to beat the hell out of another half naked chick...funny no? :D )

Well anywayz the movie looks entertaining. The basic storyline is as follows (dont worry its non spoiler :p )

Freddy is up to his old tricks down on elm street...But the parents are keeping there kids awake(Im not sure how...Mass quantities of caffine? ) So freddy gets annoyed...Some how he tricks jason into going after the kiddies in the real world since he cant get them in there dreams. Well jason figures out that freddy was playing him for a sapp somehow and jason takes non too kindly to this...So its throw down time  And ofcourse mayhem insues as usual... :demon:

Sounds interesting to me...Like was said befor i think ppl expect too much from these films...Just go in with little expectations and the thought that youll be midly entertained and you'll enjoy it more :p

Ah well personally I'm looking forward to this movie, see my avatar if you dare question me! The movie has a lot of potential it looks like it really has a chance of restoring some much needed respect to the horror franchise which has suffered tremendously lately.

Personally I think this film is going to end in a tie or either both of them die. It would be impossible to have a clear set winner based on both having a very popular die-hard cult following.

I think Freddy would annihilate a lot of movie monsters single-handedly. Freddy is, unfortunately, the most inventive monster I've seen in years, and that's saying something. C'mon, you just don't **** with a guy who can kill you in your own dreams.

Jason X was a horrible movie, though I'll admit, that whole camper hologram scene was indeed hilarious. Uber Jason was as much a good idea as Super Shredder in TMNT 2 (*vomits*).

Yeah, Jason X was a disgrace when thought of as a horror. But when you think of it as an action comedy it was pretty successful. That movie made me laugh a lot, and while I still dislike Robo Jason. It was also another amusing part of the movie. When you watch Jason X you got to think of it as a comedy, because if you try to take it as a serious horror flick you'll just hate the hell out of it.

Want an example? Well, a while back on Mad TV they had a skit where Jason was on a NASA rocket with the astronauts killing them. That was a comedy, and a funny skit at that. I believe it was using a mixture of the Friday the 13th, and Apollo 13 titles. Actually, that might have been Michael Myers, but still it's relevant. I just try not to associate it with the actual Friday the 13th series, and think of it as a Scary Movie type thing where Jason becomes a robo astronaut killing everyone else aboard.

Anyway, I am looking forward to Freddy vs. Jason because, as Semjaza so brilliantly put it, it's the match up horror fans have been waiting for. The two titans of terror, heh I thought that would sound good, will go at to prove who is truly the most horrific of the two. Anyway, while I agree with Kevin about it ending in a draw of some sort I still look forward to it as much as ever. I'm still not quite sure about what the plot is, and from the few posts here pertaining to it. I can piece together some of it, but ultimately the only way to know for sure is to wait until it come out and check it out.

I know a lot of people are expecting a draw... and in a sense I think it will be, in the fact that you know neither of them will truly be defeated. If this does decently, they'll make 3 more sequels. It's the lifeblood of these movies lol.

However, in terms of who will basically come on top... I think Freddy. Mainly because Freddy has (had) been New Line Cinema's foremost character. The movie helped put them where they are today.

Whereas, Friday the 13th was like Universal's unwanted step-child. They did everything they could to seperate themsevles from the the success of those movies... until the property was given to New Line, where it has since been somewhat removed of its former stature in my opinion.

So I really do think New Line would go with Freddy out of the two, although neither will truly win/. And even if one did, they'd come up with something insane to bring them back to life. I think Freddy was brought back by dog piss in one of those movies... Whatever lol.

I never really like either of the characters, my favorite has always been Michael Myers.
(Hey maybe he'll show up at the end and kill both Jason and Freddy. But I don't see that happening.):(

My guess on the outcome will be a draw between the two. They'll most likely end up killing each other.

Yeah everyone started laughing when I saw the preview as well. For some reason i'm sort of looking forward to this movie. Recently I watched all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies and enjoyed them for the most part.

HAVE YOU GONE MAD!? I LOVE JASON!! Of course, it is so totally true that Freddy sucked, but that's just me, because if it truly sucked, why has it made over 250 Million? Anyhow, I would love to see this movie, but c'mon, killing you in your dream? Does Jason get sleep? And to think of it, Jason has a really hard time dying, so keep up Jason!! I loved him as a child, and I love him now!! GO JASON!!

Well, it's August 5th now, which means there is only ten more days until the release of Freddy vs. Jason. Apparently, the movie seems to be taken seriously judging by all the trailers, but at the same time it's also been used for some more hilarious moments.

At Bally's Casino in Las Vegas July 15, 2003 they hosted a press conference and an actual boxing-styled weigh-in. Both Freddy, and Jason were weighed in, and oddly enough they even got a Tale of Tape on both of them at the official Fredd vs. Jason website. Check it out. It's pretty funny that they actually did this all for the movie.

Anyway, now that the release is closer, and since I first posted this I figure some of you may have changed your minds about the movie, whether it be good or bad. Please, reply with you feelings about Freddy vs. Jason thus far.

I'm planning on seeing it still. If nothing else, it's just a fanboy's dream. I think I have to see it because of that.

The scene in the trailer where Freddy jumps out Crystal Lake is probably the best thing I've seen from it so far.

I didn't see this posted... plotline from IMDB:
The ultimate forms of Hell are about to be unleashed on Earth once again. Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) is desparate to kill, but he can't since the parents of Elm Street have been doping their kids up with dream suppressants. So, he manipulates hulking, hockey-masked serial killer Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger), through visions of his mother (Paula Shaw) and gulit, to go to Elm Street and dispatch the kids so the parents will think that Freddy has returned. But his plans don't go according to schedule when Jason discovers that he has been manipulated, which really sends him over the egde. So, it's up to teenagers Will (Jason Ritter), Lori (Monica Keena), and Kia (Kelly Rowland), along with a few other survivors of both killers, to lure Jason back to Camp Crystal Lake to kill Freddy once and for all...
