Hyper Posted May 18, 2003 Share Posted May 18, 2003 Has anyone ever noticed that anime parents uusually look nothing like their children? Take Rika, from Digimon 03. Her dad, has very black hair. Her mom has completely blonde hair. And yet her hair has little resemblance to either. This may not be the best example, but has anyone else noticed this? This is the case with movies and TV they cast people that look similar. So no big conspiracy theory or evidence that makes anime special just a common practice. (parents and children of any name or show) Why is it... oh I cant think of it... oh thats it, they are all drawings. just kidding. I know what you were trying to point out, but it is just a show. However, that is not what I like to say, I would rather point out that parent/child similarities are the least of anime short comings... I think a bigger problem with anime short comings are the things my parents asked me about; "why do they all look like europeans people even though they are suppossed to be japanese"? That was when I first got into it, and my parents are not racist or anything crazy like that. Its just a simple point that when you look at say, kenshin or dbz, a great deal of charactors have very, very light complections and often times... long thin noses, lightly colored hair, and light eyes. Its all part of charactor distinction. We need to make all of the charactors unique, and you cant do that when every last person looks almost the exact same. Even so, I think in most animes, they don't need to make much of an effort to make them look the same. Perhaps they make some of them different looking from their parents because they wish to give that certain character more of a custom feel to go with their personality. I haven't really noticed that many anime kids look different from their parents, though I have never really brought up this topic in my head. Ikuko mama has bluish purple hair and Kenji papa has black hair and wears glasses. Usagi has light blonde hair and Shingo has dirty blonde hair. Neither child wears glasses. But yes, I know they're just drawings. Besides if you want to get really broad and consider all variations of animation and not catergorize since technically anime is cartoons. (moving drawings people, sorry) I can bring up Rugrats. In the All Grown up series especially the kids begin to resemble their parents with the exception of phil and Lil. I know Gojyo did resemble his brother Dokugakuji a bit, but they're half brothers. Also Hakkai looked ALOT like his sister Kanan. Other then that, I don't know what they're parents looked like. Besides I was more into the action and most of the animes that I have seen have no parents in them. But still I have noticed when I got older. Like with Sailor Moon none of the people look alike at all.
