Is there an afterlife?

Is there an afterlife? Heh... everyday for the past several months I have been wondering that. As we all know... no one knows. If we did know, then we all would've commited suicide by now. I've been going to catholic schools and church since I was in pre-kindergarden and recently my belief in the afterlife/god has been diminishing. One part of me says that maybe there is no afterlife and the whole story of there being one is just a lie and its something to keep being from being so afraid. Another part of me thinks there is one with all the teachings I have been told. And the last part thinks that there HAS to be an afterlife. I believe in that last part the most mainly because of the ability we have to remember. Its hard to believe that more than 65 billion years have gone by and yet none of us can remember anything before we were born. I think we take our memories with us after we die and puts meaning into our lives. If we can't take our memories with us, then I think that makes life meaningless... no matter what we do. I just truly hope that there is a better place after this one...

Hmm. Afterlife has so many meanings. If there is an afterlife, i think it consists of worms digesting my body...but that's just me. I think we will never truly know since all assumptions about death and afterlife are influenced by religion. I realize a lot of the people here are christians, and you also see as I do that you're basically feeding us the stuff you read in the bible. It's the same in every established religion. By the way, if you want to say that science is made purely out of assumptions, you'll have to say that every religion is also made of assumptions. The christian bible was written, what, two millenia ago? Isn't it possible that the bible itself changed over time? Or that a lot of the 'miracles' were just natural occurences that people saw as divine gifts? We have no real proof of the happenings that supposedly took place back then. Writings are not real proof...they may be just lies. Don't take whatever your priest or minister says as truth. Wow. I went a little off-topic. Oh well, basically my answer to the question is that there is no afterlife.

I believe that when you do you go to Heaven or Hell, depending on what you believe, I think it is based on if you've done that is required to go to the certain place, for example, if you have believed in God, etc.. you have done your share of the deal, as I look at it.

But some peaople have different beliefs, and the don't believe in God, I could be wrong, and they good be right, but someone has to be wrong. People that have different beliefs aren't being bad people, they just have different beliefs

People, that do that are just believing in what they think is right. But I believe that there is a afterlife, Heaven in Hell. And your in the greeatest place in Heaven.

But I hope I make since. I'm really going with Justin's idea, we kinda have the same beliefs.

i believe in reincarnation and karma and such, but as the bible goes, i believe in jesus and god, but that's about it. the code stuff is pretty cool, but i find it kinda hard to believe that animals don't have souls and gays are to be dammed to hell.. etc..
