I was wondering what you all thought of the various anime/manga magazines out there?

Ill give my 2 cents on the 3 I know best...

Anime Insider(formerly Anime Invasion): This has to be my perfered anime mag. I like there sense of humor and the straight forward layout design. It does have its flaws though...They could use some more indepth reviews and such.

Animerica: I like there reviews alot. Very informative. But they also tend to have alot of content thats abit far away from the mainstream that I really could care less about. The layout is abit confusing too.

NewType: I wanted to like this mag...It looked real cool but I cant stand reading it. It has a very confusing and just plain dumb layout. Way too many pics and not enough text/content. That and they cover alot of japenese titles that arent going to be released over here in the US anytime soon...Which I dont see a big point to...shrugz

Well whats your opinion on these(And if theres any others that im not aware of  )

I like Animerica because it's been around for a long time and it always delivers great things. And then there's also Animerica Extra. I love that, except when they added so many different manga stories that you barely get anything when you're reading it because there has to be room enough for them all.

I subscribe to Animerica and occasionaly read Newtype. I think Animerica is the best anime orientated magazine out there, since it has bette layout and good information.
Newtype magazines are too big. Basically the only reason I buy them is because I'm obsessed with anime, and you get a DVD with it.

Bah, in England we don't get ANY anime magazines unless they've been imported from the US.

I have read Animerica, I have a copy somewhere that I managed to find, and I love it to bits. But maybe I only treasure it because it's anime... It's a possibility! O_o

*pouts* Consider yourselves lucky people!

well, I've read some of the last couple issues of Shonen Jump. it's alright I guess, the only section I avidly read is Yu Yu Hakusho though. other than that, I've read about 2 issues of Animerica, but that was a long time ago.

I have a few issues of Animerica and Shonen Jump (which is more of a manga collection) and I think I'll subscribe to both. I like Animerica's reviews and like in vid. game mags, the editors personality and opinions can make it more fun to read. I haven't seen any others around except I saw an AnimeInvasion once and skimmed through it, but I had to leave soon.

Shonen Jump, Animerica Extra, Raijin Comics, Raijin Anime weekly(YES!!! WEEKLY!!! IT'S THE BEST!!! IT'S ONLY 99 CENTS, TOO!), and Protoculture Addicts are all the anime and manga magazines in America that I know of, besides online magazines and the ones you named.. Yay, I came to save the day with my small unknown magazines.

So far there are only two I read. Anime Insider (I prefered the named Anime Invasion) and Animerica.

AI is a great magazine because they are more current events oriented. Anything you find on CN (Cartoon Network) will be in there. It even includes listings of the channels that play anime and what the shows are (including times).

Animerica is good because it gives me a chance to read up on anime that I have never heard of or have only had minimal exposure to. Also the cosplay picture section is kinda neat to look at.

Two I read and subscribe to are Protoculture Addicts and NewType. I really dig the Newtype magazines, every month you get the mag, posters, postcards, manga installments, tons of info and even a DVD. This months DVD had the first episodes of Boogiepop Phantom, Sakura Wars TV AND Samurai Deeper Kyo! (which by the by - Samurai Deeper Kyo kicks boo-tay!). I even went as far as to buy DVD jewel cases and design inserts to go into the flaps for each month, the cover obviously matching what's included on the disc - it's pretty fresh if I do say so myself. Honestly though, if you are into the content, or the run-down of shows/episodes/movies, prolly Protoculture Addicts would be a better choice; if you are into the art or production of anime, may I then suggest getting the very fresh magazine, NewType. Both though - two thumbs up.
