LOL!!!!!! That was exactly how my parents were (except they aren't divorced) It was the same character too from Dot Hack. My mom didn't like the way she was dressed. But she didn't stop me from watching it. She's really cool about things like this. :)

When I lived at home, my parents didnt care, they were suprisingly cool about it. They didnt care for it, but they knew I liked it, so they wouldnt turn it off or anything like that when I was watching it, and occaisionally they would buy me mangas or something for my birthday.
I had a good experience :)

My mother is japanese so she doesn't care what kind of anime i watch, unless it's porn. She's really cool about the whole anime obsession i have.My father's a different story though. He always has to check the rating on my books and dvd's like they contain porn.

I have a quick request. I was hoping that someone could make me a banner of gothic naruto pictures with lyrics from Linkin Park's Breaking the Habit. If you want to take up this request, please email me with your name and email address. Thank you so much for reading and maybe taking up this request!! :love2:

My mother plays dumb to my obsessions of anime. She does not care aslong as it is not sex or mass amounts of violence and I keep it away from other family members.

My father on the other hand hates it. Any and all anime he dispises. He refuses to have it in his house, on his tv, in his computer or in my room! He thinks all anime is is sex scenes and blood, this is due to the fact he walked in as I was watching Hellsing during a very unopertune time.

All of my family dissagrees with anime due to thie highly religious upbrinings. I am the only hardcore anime lover, my bother likes it a little bit.

No one is alone when they know their parents hate anime, we all suffer!

Heh, heh, I didn't know that so many parents dissaproved of anime. My mon doesn't really care, she let's me watch anything that's not porn or that doesn't have massive bloodshed. I can slide with some bloody animes, though :D .

I don't understand my dad's reaction to anime. Before my dad really just wouldn't let me watch any shows with foul language in it (can you believe that?!?) but...well let's just say I think it's different with anime. I was watching Dirty Pair and one of the characters cussed. My dad laughed and started making jokes about it. My dad's just the joking type, anyway. Another time, my bud Anthony and I were watching this Japanese trailer for an Inuyasha movie, when Inuyasha's blade started rattling. My dad walked by and said,"I have just farted. And now my blade is rattling." Then all this other stuff happened, and when it ended my dad said,"See what happens when ypu let loose a wet one...." then walked away. The worlds a funny place sometimes....

Well to sum up my parents thoughts on me watching anime...

My dad thinks I spend way too much time watching anime, which it sort of true, other than that he doesn't have a problem with it, at first -- years and years ago -- when I first started watching anime he was under the impression I was seriously regressing or something, watching baby shows, it took a while to get him to realise they weren't ALL the same, though he still can't stand watching the stuff, the only thing I've shown him that he's shown any interest in is Samurai Champloo -__-

My mom knew I was into Sailor Moon -- long long ago (though I still love the series, out of all series I've seen it's ending affected me the most, it was like the end of an era o_o) -- and didn't think I was regressing, but thought it was ALL kids stuff, sort of like Sailor Moon. Then I asked her one night if she wanted to watch Inuyasha with me (no, NOT on the Cartoon Network - which I don't even get here, on the computer) and she agreed, it was hilarious, she was like "I'll watch one episode, but I may not like it..." after it was over she went running back the the computer and started episode two ^-^; So now my mom has seen around 60 episodes of Inuyasha, around half of Juuni Kokki (The Twelve Kingdoms), around 15 episodes of Full Moon wo Sagashite, some of Kenshin, and then maybe an episode or two of random other things like Kodomo no Omocha & Naruto. So, she obviously has no problem with it :D haha, maybe I should show her Gravitation, I made my dad watch the first episode of Gravitation once, I think he blocked out the experience... that, or thought Shuichi was a female.

I'm allowed to watch anime on a case by case basis. Of course, at age 11 I can't watch Cutey Honey, but that's obvious and I don't even want to. The only animes I like that my parents have issues with are Excel Saga and Chobits. Not only do they let me watch anime, but they like to as well! Everyone in my family loves Miyazaki's stuff, Evangelion, Inu-Yasha, Fruits Basket, and Rouroni Kenshin. My mom loves Cowboy Bebop, Tenchi Muyo, Lupin 3rd, Wolf's Rain, Witch Hunter Robin, Love Hina, Kino's Journey, The Big O, FLCL, and Trigun. My dad isn't huge on anything but will watch anything good that's on. Overall, I'm pretty lucky.

That is really the best way to do it imo. You can't generalize animes, parents should look at everyone and make a choice on every single one, not just group them into "anime is bad", or "no anime".

My parent's did have a problem with it, but I'm going back 9-10 years here (that just made me feel old

They would keep calling anime "cartoons", and say stuff like "how can you still watch cartoons, act like a grown up, etc" and I'd have to keep listening to it at least once a week

Fortunately I don't have to hear that anymore

I explain what anime is to my parents the way I explain it to every other person who doesn't know what anime is. Although anime shows are cartoons, they are created for a teen/adult audience, meaning there could be some bad language, gore, and occassionally nudity. But that doesn't make them bad shows. I tell them that it's similar to the Simpsons: even though it's a cartoon, you probably wouldn't want your ten-year-old watching it.

And my parents are OK with me watching anime. Although they "don't get it," they trust me enough to let me watch what I want to.

My mom has nothing against me watching anime at all. She even watching the uncut episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho with me at times. My dad lets me watch it but he makes fun of it because he still has a grudge on Japan after Pearl Harbor even though it happend 11 years before he was born and all that, he doesn't like Japan for that one incident. Then he goes on making fun of the names of characters, the title of the show, the character design, etc.

Oh. My. God. I'm 10, I feel so small...NE way, I got my dad to watch Trigun. Ya know what?? We were in a hotel. And we only had 1 TV in the room, ya know! And it was really early in the morning. Dad let me pick the channel. Oh joy! Cartoonnetwork [Adultswim].When Midvalley was battling Vash with, what I call the "Very scary mystical saxaphone that resembles Kingdom Hearts stuff"(O.o) and started flipping out abot the B-Flat, I could tell dad was going O.O who is that?!?! in his mind. But it was interesting that our car roof flew off when dad told mom they cussed in TRIGUN later that day. XD XD But dad told me to turn the TV off when he heard "Dammit!" in InuYasha >.< That sucked. At least he didn't tell mom this time.

I wonder how your dad would react to Grave of the Fireflies or (although it would be a bit more of longshot) Gundam with their anti-war messages and stuff.

My parents' main problem with anime is that they say it distracts my sister from doing school work. I'm at university now, lots of free time, so my mum doesn't have a problem with me watching anime, but recently, she's been trying to make me stop because when I watch, my sister watches (she's still in primary school). My sister would suddenly say that she finished her homework when I start to watch anime. Also, when I have manga, my sister would read it rather than study.

My dad doesn't approve of anime, he says that cartoons are for kids, so I never watch anime when dad is home. He is really nuts when it comes to good grades. He says that my sister will have bad grades if she wastes time watching/reading anime/manga. It annoys me how he always compare me with his friend's daughter (Jennifer), who like me, is aiming to be an accountant. Recently he keeps telling me about how Jennifer got a high distinction in Accounting.

My step father had once told me that watching anime is bad for you and that anime is for children. I responded by telling him that if he really believes that, he should be rendered sterile to protect the gene pool.

If they start looking apprehensive about me wasting my money on DVDs full of what they see as cartoons, I tell my parents these things:

1) Anime is made for an older audience than Western cartoons. They are not cartoons at all, they are animated series.

2) It's my money :tasty:

3) They're foreign, therefore I'm experiencing culture.

Usually they'll see reason then.
