.hack//SIGN--A reverse Matrix?

I just had an interesting thought; In the Matrix Trilogy, mankind is plugged into virtual reality, and, save the lucky few, mankind is unable to log out. And, in .hack//SIGN, mankind CAN log out of the VR while only one VERY unluck guy cannot log out. Anyone else notice this? Or do I just have too much time on my hands...er, mind?

well, i havnt seen Matrix 2 yet, but that does seem odd. what a qawinkie dink. I heard that Matrix 2 had a bad story line, but what do critics know? It does sound a bit more intresting now.

I've heard this argument before from my roommate. Granted, however, he worships the Matrix and never even saw .hack. Plus, he's very biased against anything he's never seen. In other words, if he hasn't seen it already, it's not worth seeing or is a blatant rip-off of something better that's he's seen already. I shut him up by arguing that if you call .hack a rip (something he's never even seen before) a rip of The Matrix, then the Matrix is a rip of MMORPGs, since .hack is more like Everquest and the sort than The Matrix. He was quiet after that, since he refused to believe Matrix was a rip of anything. Booya! :p

Alright, I'll stop reminiscing about my jerk of a roommate, haha. Anyway, while you could call it a "reverse Matrix" in the sense you stated, that's as far as the comparisons go. When you keep looking and looking at the themes and ideas behind The Matrix and .hack, the farther and farther the relations become. First off, the Matrix and .hack show the virtual reality in different ways: the Matrix is just a simulated slum, while .hack creates a lush, colorful, and vibrant simulation. In other words, The Matrix has a the real world mirrored in its virtual world, while .hack has the real world contrasting its virtual world (i.e., real world is black and white/colorless, depressing, dull, etc.).

I will eventually post more (or edit my post), but right now, I gotta eat. Later!

If you look at the two, you'll find that they are both entirely different.

The Matrix is a completely different idea to .hack//SIGN. .hack//SIGN is actually a totally voluntary game with an entirely different premise and reason than The Matrix.

Yeah, Tsukasa can't log out. But even that aspect is different from the people in The Matrix. They are totally unaware that they're even in a Matrix...so they have no desire to "log out" whatsoever.

The matrix is more like "The truman show" because the hack game you know what is the real reality, people can log out... except for tsukasa who cannot but he know the real world exists aswell.
people are not forcede to play this game so i guass there is a big difference between the matrix and hack, but if you look at it closel there is a bit of similarty...

The only similarity I see is the fact that, in both, people log in or out of something. "The World" in .Hack is a voluntary game, mind you all. The world in the Matrix is, for the most part, a virtual world created where people are forced to live. Not to mention, the purpose of the two worlds is totally different. In the matrix, it was a virtual world that the humans believed they lived in, not knowing what had become of the actual world. In .Hack, "The World" is a video game.

See, there isn't that much of a similarity.

I believe .hack//SIGN was based on online RPG's. A major critisism of the show ~pleading innocent~ is that it doesn't really move (charcters, storyline, fight scenes) like an RPG.

Both are cool, I just don't think one is based, or even closely related to the other.

Guess what I read in a magazine? It said that .Hack was INSPIRED by the Matrix! Yeah! Does that answer all your questions?

uh..... NO! I dont think it would. Magazines are a nest or rumors, so you know. Asides, how and why would a magazine company thing go talk to the makers of .hack//sign and see if it was "inspired" asides, i think .hack//sign was made before the Matrix 2
Guess what I read in a magazine? It said that .Hack was INSPIRED by the Matrix! Yeah! Does that answer all your questions?
What magazine was that? It sounds like total bull, first off. :o Secondly, I've seen a more reliable source for what "INSPIRED" .hack: a video feed interview of ALL THREE CREATORS! haha, sorry, I'll quit mocking the CAPS usage. For each creator, the INSPIRATION for .hack was MMORPGs and NOT THE MATRIX (sorry, last time, I promise :) ). Well, refer to my first post on this thread if you wish to hear the rest of the poor-and-played argument that the Matrix and .hack have any relation whatsoever.

Sigh... Just because the Matrix has people trapped in a virtual world doesn't mean that anything that has a virtual world was inspired or ripped from the Matrix. You might as well say our real world, since it has a virtual (well, digital) world and real world, was inspired by the Matrix.

I'm betting that you made that up. Either that or you heard a rumor. I'm pretty sure that, as almost everyone has said, .hack was inspired by MMORPGs.
