Demon Diary

I just wanted to know if anyone else happened to read this manga.
It's about a really sweet teenage boy named Raenef, who, under the study of Eclipse, one of the foremost demons in the world, is preparing to be a Demon Lord.
It starts off as mostly comedy, but as I can tell(I've only read the first volume), Raenef and Eclipse begin to have a shounen-ai-esque relationship.

Why you have this in the Poetry, FanFiction and Literature section? O_o;;; Just curious...
The "Literature" part covers manga too, so I've been told ^_^

Not read Demon Diary... but I've gotta say it sounds kinda interesting. I'm not a big shounen-ai fan but I think I'll have to go hunt it out O_o!

Are you serious about the "literature" part?! *dies* Thank you Baka.

Well, Shounen-ai is NO problem for me. So...Vertigo, just how much do you sense the Shounen-ai in Demon Diary? I'm interested in reading this manga... There's nothing better than Sweet Teenage Demons. ^____^

Oh, it's definately coming full strength in later volumes...And one of the bonus stories(same artist, different writer and plot) is really shounen-ai(I almost cried! ;_;)
Besides, if for nothing else, I think people should read it for the hilarious Raenef/Eclipse dialouge.
"A demon lord does not defer. A demon lord instills terror and exudes superiority."
"I don't want to terrorize anyone, mister."
">_< YOU WILL REIGN IN TERROR WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT! To do otherwise would make a laughingstock of us both!"

I love Demon Diary. It's quite possibly my favorite manwha (Korean manga), although I'm worried that I might dislike its ending. The art is, as you mentioned, superb--but I would expect no less from such a popular manwha. Speaking of which, I'm surprised that you haven't encountered any other Demon Diary fans; I've run into quite a few during my time at OtakuBoards and myOtaku. It seems to be a fairly well-known series, despite (or perhaps because of) its shonen-ai overtones.

How many volumes have you read? I recently purchased #5, and am eagerly awaiting the next installment. Raenef is one of the cutest, sweetest, most compelling characters in any anime, manga or manwha currently on the market. While his bright, cheerful personality reminds me of Shuuichi (from Gravitation), Rae isn't quite such a drama queen, and generally avoids wallowing in angst. Eclipse, meanwhile, has proven himself to be equally loveable. Even the story's token women are anything but flat, peripheral characters: Erutis can hold her own against the most formidable of warriors, and Meruhesae is delightfully intelligent and manipulative.

All in all, Demon Diary is a hilarious, highly engaging manwha. I strongly recommend it.

I am also a fan of Demon Diary. I've read up to volume 5 and am eagerly awaiting for volume 6 this March.

Hehe. So I'm not the only one who thinks that Raenef is similar to Shuichi. Both of them are soo cute! *^^*

You know, I kinda like Krayon too. He's funny. And yes, I like his hair too. I really do hope that the story will end nicely. Only two volume left!

>screams< I LOVE Demon Diary! I have been following the series since two months before it came out. I have every volume except 4 because I have yet to get it from my cousin. It does remind me of Gravitation. The whole thing between Eclipse and Raenef is really cute. The manga is cute and sometimes depressing and adventurous. Chris and Erutis are so funny together. If they end up getting together, I get to yell "I TOLD YOU SO" at my friend and she owes me 2 bucks. ^_^

I have read all 5 and loaned them to quite a few of my friends. My friends come to me for manga, I am like a manga library.

Has anyone seen a more misfit group of characters? I probably have, but the Demon Diary cast always makes me laugh. Chris and Raenef, best friends and mortal enemies. XD

I bought Demon Diary for the potential of shonen-ai snuggling, and kept buying it for the story and characters. (Gravitation soon fulfilled my needs.)
The only things that confuse me are the other little stories in the first book. I can't tell who's male and who's female! (While it's not necessarily . . . necessary to know, it might help.)

In "Crystal Heart," Monika and Mano are both boys (although Mano, the blond, has that androgynously pretty Quatre-esque look going on). So, yes, the first story features a male/male kiss; reading it made me hope to see similar content in later volumes of Demon Diary.

"Terra" is a bit more complicated. Although Jen--again, the blond one--looks male, he's actually the goddess Terra, whose soul is female. She devoured her lover and possessed his body, thereby turning into Jen, whose memories of being a goddess were repressed. I have no idea how he acquired a sister.... but considering that Vice is basically Eclipse in disguise, I enjoyed reading Terra nonetheless.

Now that I think about it, Vice must be a kind of undercover Eclipse. Why else would he wear sunglasses all the time, hm? ^_~

*Clutches all 5 volumes protectively*

I LOVE Demon Diary so much! Raenef is just adorable... very meltworthy. In fact, it's one of the few anime/manga/mawha where I love all the characters, good or evil.

One of the reasons DD is so great is that at the same time it's telling the story, it's making fun of itself. An example of this is when in volume 5, Chris exclaims dramatically, "After all, this is Demon Diary, not Cleric Diary!" *Laughs*

And you'd have to be completely in denial to miss the raging shounen-ai overtones between Raenef and Eclipse. They have to be one of my favorite couples to date! I'm seriously hoping they get together in the end, although I might not be able to take the cuteness overload...

Even though it's been a comedy thus far, it seems to have taken a darker turn at the end of volume 5. Any theories on what might happen?

I rarely go into fits of fangirl esctasy--but after reading volume six, how could I react otherwise? Demon Diary is easily my favorite series, and its latest installment exceeded all of my expectations. It features some of the most intuitive and dynamic layouts I've ever seen; I felt almost as though I was watching an actual show unfold before my eyes. The artwork matches and often surpasses that found in previous volumes, switching fluidly from action to dialogue to flashbacks (and sometimes all three at once) without ever looking chaotic or causing confusion.

Haha, Erutis is such a shonen-ai maniac. I love that girl (and so does
Krayon,
apparently).

Anyway, volume six made it pretty clear that
Raenef IV was/is in love with Eclipse; there's really no other way to interpret his remarks. It must have been at least partly mutual.... the expression on Eclipse's face when Raenef IV finally vanishes is absolutely heartbreaking. But he did choose Raenef V, and the adorable little blonde also gets his time in the spotlight.
Demon Diary must enjoy toying with my emotions. Parts of this volume were so exciting, distressing, and/or thrilling that I practically forgot to breathe. I don't normally like reading action-heavy manga and manwha, simply because most of it is both hard to follow and somewhat boring. Yet although book six is touted as "a no-spells-barred magical melee" (a description that fits it well enough, I suppose), it's definitely my favorite volume thus far.

EDIT: Yes, Raenef is blonde. Blue just goes better with purple, I suppose. ^_^;

I am absolutley obcessed with this manga. The art in it just blows me away everytime i turn the page. It is very original, and has a whimsical quality that I just love looking at over and over. Especially in the ornate detail in character costumes and spells.

Now, on the latest chapter, I would definitly have to say that my favorite scene was
the fight between Chris and Ranef, I did not realize Chris was so powerful until then. I mean, he is always getting beat up by everyone lol.
I was really impressed with that scene, although I was a little mad at first because of the
friend
discussion that took place in the previous chapter (which made me emotional by the way Lol)

I can not wait for the last issue, when I read it was the last I got really mad because I am obcessed with this story! I really hope they give it a great ending and do not ruin what has been a great story with a cheesy or incomplete finish.

Demon Diary is hilarious! Although, since I have major shortages of funds, I can't buy them like all you lucky folks. But I'm content reading them all at the local Barnes & Noble. :D

Yes, the art is absolutely amazing. Raenef is so adorable and innocent, and I'm very happy with the portrayal of Erutis. Finally, a girl that can fight her own battles! Yeah! :D Not only that, but Demon Lord Raenef IV is very interesting too. I can't wait for #7!!! So many twists...:D

Aaaaaahhh!! Why must you all torture me so!? Must not . . . read spoilers . . . must find . . . money . . . .

I can't buy the sixth one yet! Reading these posts is making me so antsy; argh! I think they'd kick me out of Waldenbooks if I just sat down in the aisle, too. This is a sick need. We're all ill, and loving it.

*glance at spoilers* . . . NO! Must leave thread now!

AHHH Demon Diary....a girl i know introduced me to this and it is one of my faves..i guess the best thing about this series is how even though it has a very cliche plot and character design it manages to make it original and funny ..* oh yes...Raenef looks and acts way to much like shuichi* take eclipse for example even though his character design is of the the cold and aloof "seme" he can act ridiculously goofy at times , usally when raenef does something embarresing..also if youve read the 3rd book...*domestic house wife eclipse* XDDD i got a kick out of that....i just read 5 and....yeah evil raenef WAS cool but he was even better being a cute "uke"...Demon Diary IS a shouneen-ai manga..i think

also did anyone understand the beginning to the first book...it was kind of confusing...i take it that the person talking is raenef whos looking for eclipse? also whats that werid little girl/guy?

I've been looking all over kingdom come for Demon Diary for months now, and I finally found it! I ran over to Walden Books today at the mall while my family was eating, and, behold, I found Demon Diary! I bought it (the 6th graphic novel, I wih they had the first one) and then proceded to read the entire thing in less than an hour. It's great! I love all the characters! Chris and Erutis are hilarious, and Raeneff and Eclipse are so lovable (not to say that Chris and erutis aren't). The art is beautiful  I love it! So kawaii, so it satisfies my love of humor, but it's really deap, too, and anyone who knows me (not many people here, in other words) knows that I love deap stories with lots of anghst, magic, symbolism, lovable characters, and a touch of humor to lighten things up. Oh, by the way, this is the first manwa I've read, so lets just say it had a good impression on me :D

*sighs*

I was just thinking about Demon Diary a while ago. It makes me feel sad that it's all coming to an end in May--very sad. Despite my sadness, I am confident that the story will end on a good note. Hehe...you know what I'd really like to see for the last volume? I'd like to see...a kiss from Raenef to Eclipse *^^* Wouldn't that be the most sweetest and adorable thing? I think so ^~

Here are my favorite moments so far from Demon Diary:
"There's nothing like a little death and destruction to take the edge off...*ahem*"
"Mr. tomato!!!"
Imagining Eclipse wearing a pink frilly dress, with bows and ribbons in his hair saying "Awake, thee fair prince!"

Ahh...good times. That's all I have for now. *goes off to cradle her tankubons* :D

Haha! I love the Mr. Tomato part! And Eclipse has no idea whatsoever about what's going on . . . poor Eclipse. Proud, elegant Eclipse, saddled with clumsy, peppy Raenef. Oh, well! It'll all work out just fine in the end!

( . . . positive thinking, everybody. We don't want our series to end on a bad note!)

And I finally got the sixth book! Cheers for me, right? (right.) That's why I'm so concerned about the finish; it seems so uncertain. I just finished Paradise Kiss, so I'm all jumpy about endings in general. (I've gotta start up on some more series. Saiyuki, maybe?)

I guess I'll finally step in and give my two cents.

I really love Demon Diary because it's something somewhat original. I've yet to see or hear of a story like it. The art is wonderful (if not a bit confusing at times. That Krayon page in Vol. 4, anyone?) and the depth of the charaters is wonderful. Especially how they keep hinting at Eclipse's past and Chris' future. Lovely, really.

The little bonus sections at the end are nice, too. Especially "An Occurence at Raenef's Castle Pt. 1" The second frame on the last page was too hilarous in my opinion. That and Eclipse's lesson on the various magiks used in Demon Diary where he set Chris on fire. Reminds me of the time
Chris was talking bad about either Raenef or Eclipse and Eclipse set his mouth on fire.
Too great.

It's all in all a great series. I'm only up to Vol. 5, but I know I'm going to be sad when I read the last one. It's always sad to see a great series end...

I just got my best friend, Maya, into Demon Diary (I let her borrow some of my manga and manwa last night). She loves it, her favorite character is Eclipse (mine's Raenef, but I love all of them). She's, um, not very familiar with shounen-ai, but she loves it anyways, so I'm happy. I don't read things because of shounen-ai, but I don't have a problem with it if it's in the actual original storyline. Obviously Maya doesn't either, though neither of us like full blown yoai. Anyways, I now have a fellow Demon Diary fan to obsess with. I'm so happy :D . Now the two of us are going to ave to figure out how to draw Demon Diary characters.
