Is Bandai/CC2 actually considering "The World?"

I know there's very little chance of it happening, nor would I actually ever play a game that keeps taking your money after you have paid for the game itself (i.e., EverQuest, PSO ver. 2, etc.). However, I was looking at the .hack//MUTATION registration card, and one of the questions intrigued me: "Would you buy an online version of .hack?" Are they just asking this question, or is Bandai and CC2 seriously considering creating "The World?"

i think making the world now will be a shame, maybe later on it will be as it is expected from the fans... the expactation is far too high , and outting the world in a pc or any consule xcept for VR wich is not enough developed yet...

I agree with Solid, it is too early to make a dot hack online. It doesnt seem that things have developed enough yet, but even if they did come out with one..... I would probably still get it ^_^

I figure, if they were going to make it an online version, it wouldn't be .hack as we know it. You wouldn't be "in" the game as such, living, breathing it. But a 3D playable online game has already been considered for the PS2 in the form of FF11 (and, I understand, it will be released on the PC as well) - So, maybe they're considering a competetor for FF11? That would be kinda interesting, seeing as FF11 looks set to be a huge success, in Japan at least.

PSO was a huge success, and I could never figure out why. Then, when the time came, they made another iteration that was better (but still stucked IMO). Squaresoft is even worse (THE worst. yes, even worse than Capcom), with endless iteration after iteration. With new technology and what-not, they were able to recreate the game closer to what they wanted each time they remake. If you don't think they'll be another series of FF remakes (for each of the PSX games and before), then you don't know Squaresoft's milking ability, haha.

Anyway, my point is that they could make "The World" right now. Granted, the current control scheme (that's in the .hack video games) would be insufficient, but I have an idea that involes select being like a CAPS button for new characters. It may seem really complicated at first, but it will make the game play like a dream when you get used to it. The game is released, played, and hopefully becomes popular. Then when this VR technology comes along (i.e., new technology), it wouldn't be hard at all to breathe new life into "The World" by creating a version that is on par with what the anime has.

well you do got a point there about squaresoft, but dont you think it will just ruin the illusion of such a perfect game that comes from the series?. i mean it is possible to create many servers and to make a 3d MMP game, it is possible even for company less big than square soft, but still considering most of the users will be watchers of the anime it will "brake the illusion" of the magnificent world as shown in the anime...
dont u think so?

Not really... I think most people, like you or I, would be sceptical about what can realistically done. We won't be disappointed much... Then (as with the numerous Final Fantasy games) every version after that will be refined until a game like the anime can be made...

But they've gotta be REALLY wary about making it just a spin off... like all the "movie license" games that sucked big time... because then it would just crash and burn and then there would be no "refinements" O_O!!

In two to three years computers would make where it more realist. With EverQuest it too ridge even the new one that they are working on. If they could get iit where it not as choppe and more realist and able to see farther ahead of you it would make a good computer game. But i hate how you have to buy access to the servers to play it after you buy the game
