Kaola Su
What is your response to emo music; do you like it? hate it? Also what are some of your favorite emo bands? Mine are mostly listed in my signature, but just like any music, some people may consider other bands as emo, or may not consider some of mine emo... Something Corporate The Ataris The Starting Line Brand New Glassjaw........NOT to be mistaken for Glass Eater Lagwagon Coheed and Cambria etc.. treton_noir
emo is just an nice way of saying they suck. they have no talent so they try to make up for it with volume and noise. emo = suck.
Comfort Eagle
Emo, to me is a bunch of singers who are mad at their dads. That's some depressing music. I want to see Frank Sinatra rise from the dead and beat up the singer from Dashboard. But some of the bands you isted are actually ok(Ataris, Lagwagon). But I'd rather to go with the classics (Greenday, Ramones).
LostProphet
I like emo. A friend of mine got me hooked on it with a burned CD that had Further Seems Forever, Dashboard Confessional and The Juliana Theory. Its actually pretty good giutar music, seeing as I learned a few songs in a day or two, which is a record for me.... Kaola Su
Ohhh, I forgot all about Juliana Theory! I saw them in concert! Well, it's cool even if you don't like the music, I did ask for opinions so I must expect different ones from everyone. Not all emo songs are about stuff like that though. I have heard some, but the majority isn't. They don't all sing about sad or mad things. I don't listen to much that is all depressing actually. OlgaTheDwarf
Emo music has it's crappy points (Something Coporate) but there are many emo bands that actually have talent. And, I do like quite a few bands that are considered emo. Here are some ones I like: The Beautiful Mistake Noise Ratchet Dead Poetic Further Seems Forever Juliana Theory Thursday ect... Here are a few hardcore/emo bands I like: underOATH (new stuff) .hopesfall. Poision The Well From Autumn Too Ashes ect...
Semjaza
I don't even know what emo entails anymore. I think a vast majority of what qualifies as emo is rather bad. I do however like Thursday quite a bit. I've liked The Ataris for several years, although I do not like the new CD at all. Mostly thanks to the changes, such as Kris Roe's voice. There are other bands that perhaps fit in emo, but I'm not sure. I'm not a big genre person, I just like music that sounds good. Anyway, these bands are Bright Eyes, Deathcab for Cutie and Ozma. If they don't fit, then someone can tell me otherwise heh. ------------------------------------- I do have a huge problem with emo boys though. Has anyone ever wondered why, if they are as great and perfect towards their no-good girlfriends as they claim, why they never seem to be able to keep them for more than a very short period? Why they are constantly dumped according to their songs? I get the impression that they pretend to care when all they really want is some action. Then when it all falls apart in their face, they have more fodder to make them seem sensitive and caring. I've seen many, many girls buy into these guys only to be burned. I know I'm generalizing, but there is one guy in particular that I dislike to a point that he really affects my opinion in every aspect. Kaola Su
I really don't like Thursday at all! Or From Autumn to Ashes. I don't like that kind of screaming stuff, well Thursday's singer is just really bad! The way I have heard it with Thursday is, he either has the worst voice you have ever heard or you love it. But I don't like either of those bands. Also emo boys are not constantly dumped, I have been with one for 2 years b/c he was very good to me and the one I am with now has been one year and counting and he is also very good to me. So no matter what kind of person you are, it really depends on your attitude and your lifestyle...morals, etc. So that is a very bad presumption. Also Trenton, you could also try and give me some examples, also the regular emo that I know of is not noisy and they don't scream.....that is considered Scr=emo which I do not like! Only one of the bands I listed screams and is loud and I don't even listen to those songs. Kaola
treton_noir
Originally posted by Kaola Su Trenton
T-R-E-T-O-N man... everybody gets that wrong. ...and all that screamy, whiny crap (the used, thursday, ... any band on Victory Records) is what i really dislike. On the other hand, there's the not-screamy, whiny crap like the ataris, all-american rejects, taking back sunday (also on Victory), and less than jake. Does anybody else (and i hope Tony can back me up) remember about 5 years ago when bands like the ataris and less than jake were punk bands that played the warped tour? how do they suddenly get classified as emo and get famous? ...not that it matters to me. i didnt like them then, and i dont like them now. Kaola Su
Yeah, sorry about spelling that wrong! I didn't mean to. Everyone does it to me too so don't feel to bad! :) But no, I agree about some crap is bad b/c it is whiney. But I dunno, I do like some whiney stuff though b/c when it isn't all screamy it usually makes really pretty songs (Something Corporate has some) But I remember what you are talking about when you said that about Warped Tour. Don't you dare say emocore, ugh, I detest that word. Underoath, Hopesfall, PTW, and FATA are all a hardcore/metalcore breed. Their lyrics aren't really emo-ish. My favorite band skycamefalling [metalcore band] is really lyrical though. But a depressing lyrical band. Still, real cool stuff. Also Treton, The Ataris and Less Than Jake, especially LTJ always sucked. I don't like Thursday either. Their sound just isn't me. Oh, Semjaza, I'm an emo kid. I'm quite the emotional boy. But I don't like emo the music. I just like to show my emotions. =D

I remember when the Atari's and LTJ both frequented the warped tour and various similar festivals...I think that they got classified into the EMO genre because they stink... I have never had a good relationship with EMO music...emotional punk music does't truly strike me as a valid genre. I always thought punk music was created by people that said "screw society, we are going to play loud obnoxious music and never be members of the conforming majority"...that is why bands like Pennywise and the Clash always appealed to me, it is just fun music. I hate whiney emo bands screaming or "singing" about their horrible girlfriends while a guitar chunks out catchy powercords...it makes me furious! As for EMO boys...just another group of people for me to pick on and steal girlfriends from ;)
Semjaza
The Ataris have quite of songs that don't involve girls. Quite a bit that are actually pretty heavy and would appeal to most punk fans in general. Of course, this was years and years ago. I don't think they've ever really been as heavy as they were on that old 7" with Elvis Was a Skinhead. Either way, I always considered them more of a pop punk band... they interest me to a larger extent than most others I stick in that grouping. Of course, the Ramones are basically a pop punk band, so perhaps sticking some of the current stuff in that grouping is giving them more credit than they deserve heh. Either way, I like the Ataris. Blue Skies, Broken Hearts is a fun CD and I can't think of much wrong with it. Of course, if you're a freak about genres and what belongs and what doesn't... you'll probably have a problem with them. Personally, I don't give a **** about that stuff and enjoy them anyway. And it's true, I'd say, what has happened with The Ataris. A lot of people had dismissed them with very little knowledge about them. Hell, if I heard only their most recent CD... I'd probably think they sucked too. The production on it is too high, and they took all the distinction out of Kris Roe's voice. Instead of being a band that has been at this stuff for years (even before the current crop of popular "punk"/"emo" bands), they are being stuffed into a group that basically looks at them as yet another "The" band or crappy "punk" flavor of the month. It's really a shame I think. Personally, I don't think the idea of what genre a band is should affect your enjoyment of the band. There are plenty of fusion genres at this point, so I don't even see how it matters. If you don't like the sound, that's cool. I don't see how what genre people want to stuff it in matters in terms of that. People seemed more concerned with image than they are with sound lately, and it really bothers me. Punk fans are actually way up there in terms of that... perhaps beaten only by hip hop fans that need to own any brand of shoes or clothing some star has. I'd probably put some goths up in there as well lol.

Plus you must not have read the lyric's in Underoath's newest cd "The Changing of Times", because they are very emo like. P.s. emcore, emocore, emocore... (J/K). Kaola Su
I hate that word scremo! My sister says it and I think it is a good way to describe it, but that word makes me cringe when I hear people say it, but I figured you all'd get what I was talking about if I said it....sorry about that!
