Kain

Recommended Posts

The story starts outside the small town of Dryreach. The brisk night air wipe the beads of sweat off of Kain's face as he holds his broadsword in a defensive stance gritting his teeth. The mage Gaerlan holds his blazing staff ready to cast a spell.

Gaerlan: YOU WILL DIE KAIN!!!!

Kain: Never!

Gaerlan: Zojak Quasith!!!

A huge bolt of fire jolts out of the staff and heads straight towards Kain.As the bolt nears Kain he wakes up.Beads of sweat drip down Kain's face as he sits awake in bed panting. He gets up and walks to the stream near his camp.

Kain: The same dream...it has to mean something...

As the sun starts to rise Kain begins to pack up his things and finish heading into the town of Arwic to find one of the 10 warriors.

Aziza: (yawns) Oh... morning already? Jeez, the sun is bright...

Slowly, Aziza Yoko trudged out of her collection of blankets. She pulled on her boots and set her glasses on her nose and started to gather firewood for breakfast.

Aziza: It's been around eight months since my village was destroyed. I wonder... if I'll ever find them...

Soon, Aziza had some meat frying in a pan and some bread toasting on a stick by the fire.

Aziza: I've been having these weird premonitions lately... something about... a man being killed...

Aziza was nervous. She didn't know the person, but her premonitions had a tendancy of coming true. She had dreamed for years about the day that her village would be destroyed, and that had come true. Aziza took out a scrap of paper from her back shorts pocket. On it was scrawled, in her mother's writing: Hope.

Aziza: I have to keep going.

She packed up her stuff and headed out on the main road.

Aziza: There's a village coming up... I'll go and see if anyone has seen anyone from my village.

As he reached the top of the hill and let out an exausted sigh as he leaned onto his staff, looked down onto the village below him

Zeek: man...I never want to see...another hill...or mountain...as long as I live...hmmm...I wonder if that town has anything worth my while there...

after he stopped to rest on the hill for some time he got up and headed to the town below him

Malli packed her things. It was moring so she had to get on the move. As she was packing up she looked down at a town not far from her camp site.

Malli: I wonder if anyone is there.

Malli grabbed her staff and pushed her hair out of her eyes. She got on her way...

Thick red smoke swirled around the room. The spell was almost complete. Only a few more incantations. I stood and sliced my right hand, for the fifth time, with a serrated knife. The blood dripped down into the pool.

Ryan- "Morhital Norsciptae Fentard Lilldevai." My blood spread rapidly throughout the pulsing white water. It turned it a deep red, very close to black. Gigantic plumes of blood-stained water shot into the air. A swirl of fluid hung suspended directly above me. I held my hands up to it, welcoming it. Slowly, it began to decend. I could smell the coppery scent of blood. Small drips landed on my face, stinging it, and still I welcomed it.

It first absorbed my hands. The pain was terrible, but nothing compared to the result. It went past my shoulders. I could taste it. My waist. By the Gods did it burn! It sunk into the floor with a squeel of fluidity. I doubled over. The spell was finished. I watched the liquid seep into my skin. I felt the power rise inside of me right away. I had done it. The spell had worked.

I was a Stormscape Master.

The gong rang, wakening Ilmiwyrth. It wasn't really a gong, but that was how the entity chose to manifest its presence, in pure sound. One of the many bizarre and often unique lifeforms that inhabited the monastery, the quitherling existed in any form of energy it chose. It tended to exist as an impossibly low sound wave, the reverbrations giving it an almost physical state of being. But now it announced itself, which meant Ilmiwyrth was needed. A string of clicks and whistles, the coded sounds that those in the monastery had taught the quitherling in order to communicate with it, followed in rapid succession. Ilmiwyrth rose slowly, listening to the message. A minute later he was striding down a long corridor, not pausing for the servants to open the door, but throwing it open himself. The Abbot of the order didn't seem surprised. Ilmiwyrth was always quick tempered.

Abbot: You know why you're here.

Ilmiwyrth: We're finally doing something about the mages?

Abbot: Indeed. You are released from the confines of the monastery.

Given that ritual, but necessary dismissal, Ilmiwyrth was free to leave. Leaving without that consent was fatal. He spent little more than five minutes within the monastery before he was on the road, purpose in his eyes and mind.

Aziza stood in the middle of what seemed to be a totally abandoned village. She hiked her backpack up on her shoulders and proceeded to knock on a door. There was no answer.

Aziza: Uh... hello? I'm a traveller, and I was wondering if I could stay here for the night...

She entered the house. It was totally devoid of any life. There was an entire meal on the stove, but it had boiled over and burnt on the stove and the fire had gone out.

Aziza: Weird... This place is really creeping me out...

She turned around and happened to glance above the doorframe. Smeared above the door was a thick line of red blood.

Aziza: Oh my GOD!!!!!!!!

Aziza backed into a table, her eyes still on the stain. She screamed at the top of her lungs.

As Kain neared the town of Arwic he heard the scream from Aziza. He hurrys into town to see no one is there but that one scream.Kain locates where it came from and bursts through the door.He spots Aziza looking as if she has seen a ghost.

Kain: Hey what's wrong?

Aziza: *points to the blood along the door frame*

Kain slowly turns around to spot the blood. He is startled at first but touches it to see if it was but there recently.

Aziza: Don't touch it!

Kain: It has been here for awhile....lets get out of here.

Aziza: Who are you??

Kain: I'm sorry i didn't introduce myself. My name is Kain.I am recruiting warriors to combat the mages. You are?

Aziza: Aziza..now that we are done with the introductions can we get out of this creepy place?

Kain: Yeah this is starting to creep me out.But i still need supplies.

Kain takes Aziza out of the house and he searches for a supply shop.

Aziza: Hey, thanks for helping me out back there. I'm kinda... eh heh... scared of blood.

Kain: Why?

Aziza: My entire village was slaugtered and each doorframe was marked with their blood. Bad memories I guess.

Kain: Here's a supply shop. It looks deserted.

Aziza: Not going in there.

Kain: You want to stay out here by yourself?

Aziza: I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself...

Kain: Suit yourself.

Aziza stood out there for a few moments.

Aziza: Okay, I'll just... shut my eyes...

Jim: What the hell? GAA!!! PAIN!!!!! *rubs his head, seeing as how he landed on it after falling*
Looks like it's gonna be one of those days...
*walks to innkeeper*
How much do I owe ya?

Innkeeper: Well seeing as how you've stayed here a week, 2500 Gil.
Jim: WHAT?!?!? I don't have that kind of money!!!
Innkeeper: I forgive the debt on one condition...
Jim: Oh...my...goddess.
Innkeeper: You let me keep your sword.
Jim: Tell ya what, if you can catch me, you can have it. BYE!!!!

*Runs out of the Inn, looks behind him to see wether or not the Keeper is chasing him, and ends up running into the Supply Shop wall*

Aziza: GAHH!!! What the heck?!!

Jim twitched near the wall.

Aziza: Ohhhh God. Uh... mister... whoever saved my butt. There's some guy out here who just ran into a wall...

Aziza began checking for his vitals. He was still breathing and had a pulse, so he was going to be okay. She happened to glance over at his right hand. She backed away rather quickly. The mystery guy was holding a sword.

Inn Keeper: Aha! Here's the scoundrel! And his sword!

Aziza: Hey, wait. You're not just going to take it, are you?

Inn Keeper: He owes me 2500 Gil, and it's either take that or his sword.

Aziza: But... people are going around slaughtering others! He can't afford to be unarmed!

Inn Keeper: Look, I just want my money.

Aziza: Okay... (checks coin purse) I have 500 Gil on me, is that enough?

Inn Keeper: Well... (looks at Aziza) Okay, but on one condition.

Aziza: And that would be...?

Inn Keeper: You seem like a nice girl. Why don't you marry my son?

Aziza twitched. With lightning fast reflexes she drew her wooden katana.

Aziza: LIKE *&%@ I WILL!!!!

With one swift blow, the Inn Keeper was on the ground with Jim.

Aziza: Well... that takes care of his problems and mine.

Jim:........ow.
*slowly recovers to his feet, and sees the Innkeeper lying on the ground a foot or so away from some "unknown" girl*
Lemme guess, he chased after me, I slam into the wall, go unconcious, he stops, tries to take my sword, you stop him, try to understand what the #&#$ is goind on, he asks you for a favor or the 2500 gil I owe him, you become disgusted at the favor and knock his *** out. That correct?

Aziza: That's the jist of it, yes.

Jim: Thanks, what's your name? *Intentionally steps on Innkeeper as he moves toward Aziza* People tend to call me Jim.
