Minorities?

J17 and Endymion are both African American, as is Na'dou and probably some others. We have a good amount of minorities here, but since this is an internet site our membership is purely elective. I mean, we aren't going to scour the internet for minorities to join our forums or something. Heh.

Considering that anime is geared towards the Japanese audience, I consider it to be multicultural that so many white people watch the stuff.

We also have people from a large variety of countries visiting us here. I'm very proud of the fact that, generally speaking, the members of OtakuBoars are highly tolerant people.

Hey, am I a minority as I'm a Finn? :toothy: Heh, I guess I am, since there's only five million Finns (there are many, many, many more afro-americans than us)... You can just imagine what the minorities here in Finland are like (immigrants form like 1% of our population...) ;)

Heh, I'm immigrant from the Dominican Republic but I lived in Brooklyn for like 16 (17?) years now. We seem to like anime alot, just about every Dominican I know has a favorite show. Heck my aunt and cousins like watching it, especially Ranma 1/2, and they live back on the island. Of course its dubbed in spanish but its also uncut and they air just about anything over there. I envy them :/

And in case anyone was wondering, I used to be Endymion. And how did you know I was black, aside from the fact that my only past avatars were John Stewart/Green Lantern and Caesar from The Boondocks?

Ok, answered my own question. :cross:

Most anime fans that I've met IRL were either Caucasian or Asian. I don't meet very many African-American anime fans, except for online. Apparently we exist, but I've only met one IRL, and I'm related to him.

I still think of you as Endymion, weird. I didn't even realize that you were black until I saw your picture. The avatars should have tipped me off, oops.

Anyway, we have a fair number of homosexuals on the boards. We are a minority.

Well, I'm half white (as in a mix of european backgrouds, I cant remember most of them right now)and half Mexican. My Dad came to Washington from Mexico, met my mom, married, I was born and have always lived in America. I consider myself Mexican-American and I look more Mexican than white.

To be true, there's nothing such as "minorities."

It's only people that are small-minded, feeble, and weak that think that way. Dear God, we're all human, no matter what the hell's in our damned blood. We all have relations to each other. I mean, there had to have been a pretty closed linked chain when either God created humans (if that is your belief), or, in what I believe, when we evolved into homo sapiens.

You're only as small as you think you are, and you're only as big as you think you are. Does that make sense? We are all humans after all.

Me? I'm just caucasian. I have some indian blood in me, some other stuff..but what does it matter? I'm still not better or smaller than anyone else, discounting egos.

Egos are another thing altogether. Another thing, that like minorties, is only a mental thing.

Doesn't the fact that you are a minority differ depending on where you are? oo;;

...anywho. >>;

I'm just plain old 100% Korean. Nothing too special about it. Though, people always seem to mistake me for Chinese at the bus stop. I always get the occasional old guy coming up to me and asking me for directions in Chinese. oo;;

I'm Mexican/Native American/Black/Either English or German.

I can be called any racial slur, since I look totally white from my dominant English/ or German but have the blood of alot of minorites mixed into the other 40-50 percent. ^_^'

By blood, I'm 100% pure Irish. By night I'm a crime fighting Lepra-- back to the subject at hand.. Wouldn't count myself as a minority really, since there are huge Irish communities all over the world.

Then again, how is anything a minority? Just because there aren't as many types of one person compared to another? Pff.

Well, Kurama-Fiend and I are black and live in Brooklyn NY.I am also part native american and potugese(SP?)however I look mostly black.

However I think it`s dumb to call people minorities. I think everyone is equal no matter race,sexuality or,religion.

I also get tried of racial stereotyping too. It really bugs me. I find it to be really stupid.

Not only is a minority just a lesser portion, but according to my stupid American Studies teacher who doesn't even know she has a class, a minority is any group of people who've been widely persecuted in their past, or present. So, bearing in mind children and the elderly as well, everyone's a minority except for middle aged straight Caucasian men. Guess that's more of a lesser portion, a minority if you will. ;)

But then again, you MIGHT not want to listen to my teacher. She's an idiot.

I don't like the word minority, because as G.D. Ryoko said, everyone should be equal. I prefer the term Nationality. I'm half European, half Asian. I'm 50% Chinese, 25% German, 13% Irish, 8% French, and 4% Dutch. Heh.

I look Asian. So.... yeah. I hate all the stereotypes that associate with Asians. It's like... everyone who looks remotely slanty-eyed is Chinese. Like no one bothers to take the time to realize there are Japanese people, Koreans, Filipinos, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Thai (YES THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THAI AND TAIWANESE. No one understands THAT either), etc. And everyone stereotypes us as the geniuses, and the "model minority." First of all, I'll tell you we're not geniuses, but I think in our culture (okay, at least Chinese and Japanese), we're a very hard working people. So when you work hard, you get back good results. See? And The model minority? That's not true, we've got our fair share of problems. Another thing, though, is that most Asian are Chinese. The (Chinese, I dunno about the others) culture is to pretend everything's wonderful on the outside. No one except your family should know of family problems...

And I've begun to ramble about Asian! MUST.STOP.LECTURING.ABOUT.CHINESE.PEOPLE! >.>
