Minorities?

Yeah, I've run into my fair share of stuff like that. You always get the random idiot that thinks that Mexicans are stupid and lazy...though I must admit that I'm a little lazy, but that's just me...it's part of my psychology, I guess...I'm not really the person that people should assume as the model of a race, if you know what I mean.

That's really surprising, mostly because at my college it seems there are a large amount of black males that are into anime. More so than any other race in the school from my experience.

I think I read somewhere that 84% of the people in America belong to a minority.

And I happen to be everything except Asian. And Swedish. I have some South African heritage since my family has lived here in New Orleans since 1827, and directly from my great grandparents I have Creole, Cajun, French, German, British, Polish, Romanian, Russian, and somewhere lost in there Apache. From my grandparents I have Canadian, more French and German, Spainish [as in Spain], almost all forms of Hispanic, like .2% of Egyptian, some Italian, some Greek, etc. and my grandfather's half cousin was Middle Eastern, and my parents were mostly French, Cajun, German, and Polish [with hints of what I have thanks to my grandparents].

So there you go. Not the biggest anime fan around, but I'm one of the most ethnically diversed person you'll ever know.

I'm just plain old 100% Korean. Nothing too special about it. Though, people always seem to mistake me for Chinese at the bus stop. I always get the occasional old guy coming up to me and asking me for directions in Chinese. oo;;
YAY for Juu!! I as well, am 100% Korean, though raised in the States all my life. I tend to be asked if I am Chinese as well, and that is kind of fun. Also once in a great while, when I get a really dark tan I get asked if I am Hispanic. I just tell them to look at my eyes, and they are like, "Woah, you're Asian!"

() , Try me. Chances are, if it's in northern africa, I've heard of it. I was fascinated with EVERYTHING in Africa between 1st and 6th grade,....

Me? I'm sort of like a mutt. I'm at least 30% Puerto Rican, though look whiter than if I crawled out from under a mall in Nebraska... Okay, not quite that white... In fact, I'm darker than most white people.. But the truth is, my roots are in Iceland, Ireland, AND Italy... ICELAND?!?!?! Yeah.

AND I AM CANADIAN! Ahahahahahahahahahahah! Okay that was a lame joke and the only people who would get it would be other canadains. Anyways I'm white...though sometimes I really don't want to be considering all the things we've done to other races in the past-__- So yeah right where I am I'm a minority but I guess not here...

Ok, I'm from Eritrea, Genkai. You know Americans, are in all actuality, a minority. They imagrated from Europe. But Since they irradicated(Sp?) the Native americans, and renamed the country, they are now a majority.
PS= I'm glad as hell OB is back. :):):):)

I guess it's just the town I live in. The majority of my town is made up of people of Hispanic and East Asian origin. Half of the black people I went to high school with didn't even live here, and you could count the anime fans among them with one hand. And when I started college in January, I barely talked to anybody and I don't know if anybody I talked to (of any race) was an anime fan. So all black anime fans I know, I've met online.

Hm, discussions about people's backgrounds are very interesting. There's always a lot to learn.

My background is pretty European-centric I guess. My parents and grandparents are all from Australia, except for one -- my grandfather on my mother's side is Welsh. A large group of people on that side are from Ireland, some further back are from Germany and my great aunt is Japanese. So basically, I can't list ten billion countries in my family history, though I probably could if I went back far enough. I don't like getting into the whole "3% this and 5% that", because I think it's a bit silly. lol

There's something I've been wondering about.

When there's a black person of African origin in the US, we call them African-American. What do you call a black person of African origin in, say, the UK? And are black Canadians still called African-American, because Canada is still in North America?

That always bothered me too. Kurama-Fiend and I always joke about things like that and call them Afro-Canadian but don`t listen to us.
