Vicky
Wait. I have to say something about one of the Mods NOT Doing there job. In the adventure Forum. I don't think Warlock is cheaking and warning people about double posting and spam. I've noticed: 1. Double posting 2. Doulbe posting in the recruitment. 3.A bit of Spam. I haven't seen Warlock browering that Forum. Waock hasn't even warned the people that double post and post three times in a row. Some of the newbies think you can post in a row as many times as you like, but not to double post on the same day.
Lady Macaiodh
There's no way I'm reading this whole thread, but here are my two cents: Anyone who thinks the mods are too strict has to be a social buffoon or something. They don't expect anything more than for us to act like we're members of civilized society. It's not hard. And a member is not going to get automatically banned for, say, cussing. I'll be the first to admit that I break the rules from time to time -- cussing (where the stars pop up), and maybe talking too sexy... but I've never been warned or anything. The mods do give you some leeway on that stuff, as long as you're not a habitual offender. I have noticed instances where certain mods have come down too hard on someone because they didn't like them to begin with. I don't like that at all, but there's no use confronting them about it, because they've usually convinced themselves that there was ample reason for the person to be criticized or whatever. That doesn't happen too often, though. But as for overall strictness, I've seen no evidence of this whatsoever. The mods have a big job to do, and I respect that. There's no way on earth I'd ever want to be one. I don't know how they do it sometimes, especially Charles and James. People should be thanking them for making the boards as good as they are. One reason come here exclusively is that when I visit other boards, they are simply not of the quality of OB. I think OB has spoiled me for message boards, lol, and I love it. Good job, mods. :)
Guest Musahi
After sitting here for an agonizing period of who knows how long and reading this whole thread through. I suprisingly don't have much to say. I want to word this where I don't sound like a suck up, but I don't sound like an *******. At my rather short stay here at Otakuboards I have not had one problem with the moderators. I've been in arguements/debates about issues, but nothing about the rules. If a moderator feels the need to close a thread oe delete a post, then it is their judgement. It happens rarely and when it does it is taken care of. Of course I don't agree with a **** load of the rules here. But when i joined I agreed to follow them, and for the most part I have. If you don't like it here or how they run things, (This is MY opinion) then what the **** are you reading this for. LEAVE! In closing :: "What I find funny about this thread is that it contradicts it self. The fact that the people say your too strict aren't banned and the thread isn't closed proves that they aren't." Guest Anakin Solo
I myself, have been banned. And for a great amount of time too. When I was banned, I thought it was unruley(sp) and unjust. So, I felt the mods were too strict. I went on and on, saying everyone was wrong, that I did none of those things. For a year I did this, and I held my belief that I did none of that, that the mods were too strict, and wer "reading too much" into my posts. Now that I was allowed back, I went and looked at my posts. They let me slide with so much crap. I should have been banned long before I had been. I do not find them too strict. They never were too strict. When someone is banned, they don't want to be banned, so they make up excuses, such as mods being too strict, just like I did(my opinion ayways). Though...I don't know if any of that makes sense.....*shrug*, lol.
NorykoAngelcry
I have come and gone on the boards a bit, mostly because of time constraints (i.e. - job, school, or WAY too busy to get online), and I have even served as a mod (Nintendo forum, very long time ago. . wouldn't be surprised if no one remembers me *cough*). Anyways, my whole time here, I have never had a problem following the rules, and am actually quite surprised when people take offense to what some other person (who, might I add, you have probably never even seen, nor really gotten to know), and can just rant and rave a three paragraph sentence about that person, calling him everyword in the book, and then making a few up. I think the rules are fine just how they are. As for people crossing the line and thinking that they are being treated unfair, that is human nature. Just like off the net, when you get into an argument, and an adult/peer breaks it up, the last thing most people think was that they were treated fair, and deserved what was coming to them. *shrug* That's what makes humans great =) Anyways, I hope these boards keep on rocking along, and if anything, I really hope that people learn to lighten up and just take it easy. Sure it is easy to vent to a bunch of names (and not faces), but the names also come with personalities and feelings, and when most people start to realize that, I would hope that levels of emotions wouldn't be displayed when they aren't warrented, saving the mods the trouble from being the 'bad guys' on the boards. *sigh* I will shut up now. . .
Sui Generis
Personally I think the mods/admins do a great job. I have been here since V1 and no offense to any earlier staff, but I have to say this is the most well put together and well performing staff I have seen yet. The mods are more sociable with the members, its more of a friendly enviroment and they get the job done. I don't see any evidence of how these mods are "too strict". Strictness must be implied in a job when trying to have rules followed. They have the perfect mix going in my opinion. I know its not really nice and all but I figure if you don't like the mods here you can go some where else. There are tons of forums on the net that have places where you can say whatever you want and it doesn't matter. The question is do you sacrafice the good of many for the pleasure of few. History has shown that, the theory of doing that does not work. Otaku Boards is no different, the good of many comes in front of the select few who feel the desire to spam. The only thing I can think of is some of the mods could be a bit nicer to newbs who make a mistake and post a intro trhead. I think I only saw one case where I thought it could have been handeled better but hey just thought I'd mention it. Anyways all in all thumbs up people you guys are doing great!
Japan
Red: Moderators maintain the rules; they don't rule the boards with a tight grip.
I agree with Red. I don't hink that moderators are bad at all, they keep the message boards clean of spam, mindless crap, and bad words. The reason why I like otaku board a million times better than others is because it is more interesting and the moderators faithfully do their job, and do their job fair and right.! Emme888
They are not strict at all...they are just making sure that the site isn't full of stupid SPAM!!! I think it's perfectly fine. I like how they're actually doing their job.
Razzamataz
I don't think the're TOO hash...I for one don't want OB to become a gameFAQ "LUE" board *shudders at the thought*(and should one of you think OB should become a LUE you need to leave...now...), although there have been times that I couldn't see why they closed a topic...but whatever in the long run it really doesn't matter so I just drop it and forget it.(in 52,000,000,000 years i think we would be lucky for the humans to not be extinct let alone OB still around)
Spikey
Originally posted by Queen Asuka I hate it when someone just HAS to point out the Anime Lounge. The Anime Lounge is FULL of newbies, so I try not to be too harsh in there. YES, it needs a lot of work, and YES I work on it all the time. ALONE. No one helps. I do all the work in there. If you see a problem, please report it. You don't know how helpful that would be. Being a mod is stressful and sometimes you have to make hard decisions. And sometimes we get frustrated. But you must remember, we are just people, too.
I'd be glad to help you Asuka. Back to topic. I don't think the mods are that strict. I've seen a lot of people get banned, but it's all for good reasons. I'm 10 years old, my friggen grammer is worse than a ducks. (figure of speech) I haven't gotten in trouble for it. I've done a couple stuff when I was a newb, I spammed, and all that, but all newbs do the they learn, I did. Atleast I hope all newbs do. Anywho... The mods are strict, yes that's actually good. If they weren't look how bad this forum would be. It would be way to much clutter. They're very good mods. I've been to forums where they allow spam. Where they don't think anything about it, and then the whole forum is filled with spam flamming a bunch of clutter, and stuff. I'm glad the mods are strict, I would hate to have a forum like that. The mods aren't perfect, they're humans, but they do they're best, and that's a darn good job. They always have a good reason to ban people, and to close threads. ::Claps for mods on they're good job::
spike speigel
I really don't think the mods are too strict. Just as most of you have said, they are just doing their jobs. They are only doing the things they do to prevent chaos and ensure order on the boards. None of them are abusing their powers or being really strict. Biida
Being as mods are only human, yes, they can be occasionally overly-strict. This forum is run quite a bit better than any other I've ever been to, though. They keep the spam down and they respect the members. Hey, it's better to be strict than to let spam overflow. Kudos to you all.
