What are your favorite bands? Slipknot, SOAD, and Powerman 5000.

Why do you like them? Because they have a great sound, and I enjoy listening to their lyrics.

Umm... any kind of rock, I guess. ^_^;

What are your favorite bands?

Kittie, Evanescence, Hoobastank, and... Tori Amos?

Why do you like them?

Kittie has a great beat, Evanescence has great vocals, Hoobastank has great music, and Tori Amos's songs get stuck in my head. >>;;

It's fun singing Kittie's songs, too. I love singing 'Charlotte'.

WHAT!? lol Slipknot doesn't have lyrics. They have yelling various sounds that occationally sound like some sort of garbled language commonly translated into english.

Anyway onto the topic.

I like more genres of music then you've heard of.

I don't have favourites. Theres far too much diversity in my listening habbits to even compose a list of remotely possible favourites.

Why do I like who I like? Because some music sounds good. To me at least. It's appeasing, powerful, quiet, faint, soothing, sad, energetic, and every other adjective you can use to describe a mood. Music is good. Its when you start throwing in useless sounds, bad lyrics, and crappy singers when you get the junk in "music."

PS: If anyone here listens to "music" solely for the purpose of lyrics, what they say, mean, whatever... then you have no idea what music is. Music is not lyrics. The only time lyrics are music is when those lyrics are harmonous and melodic, singing good. But if you can sing good, you don't need lyrics cause your voice can make the music without words. So I really don't see any need for lyrics in any songs. But thats just me.I feel alot of people miss out listening to some of this crap. They have no idea what music truely is.

Please don't be offended by anything I said here, it's not directd at anyone in particular (unless otherwise noted) Its just my opinion.

Listening to music solely for the lyrics? Do those people even exist? I think those people just read poetry all day...

ANYway...

What genre of music do you listen to?
I listen to a lot of R&B. I'm also into Ol' Skool R&B and funk. I listen to a little rap (despite what some people think, I find the music in some hip-hop songs enjoyable). I used to be into rock, but I probably only listen to 2 bands nowadays.

What are your favorite bands?
Aaliyah (rest her soul), Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson (until the mid-90s), Jackson 5, Justin Timberlake (can't stand NSync, but he's good solo), Missy Elliott, Beyonce (resistance was futile. I tried to fight it, but I like her songs), Linkin Park, and I've recently started to listen to Frankie J.

Why do you like them?
Janet and Beyonce just look good, Aaliyah was a beautiful singer, Michael Jackson made some good solo songs from the 1970s to the 1990s, Jackson 5 is just plain classic, Justin and Frankie sound much better solo than they do in their damn groups, Missy Elliott is one of the few rappers who can make an entire album by herself if she chooses to (rappers, singer, writer, producer, owns her own label) and Linkin Park blends rock and rap in a way that I just can't help but like.

I listen to quite a few bands because of their lyrical content... of course, they are able to carry the lyrics with vocals and music that I think fits and sounds good.

Seriously, if some singer sounded amazing but was singing about the most boring and inane things, you would like it simply because the music is good? I certainly wouldn't, although there are many bands that can carry a song that really does have no point(and do it well).

There is no point to music. What's good and what's bad is totally in the eye of the beholder. It's totally subjective. I don't think anyone really has the right to say one person doesn't get music because of this or that (this is outside of people thinking some group or sound sucks, which is something else entirely lol). There aren't rules. Music is a very vague and animorphous thing and does what it wants and what people make it do. If it didn't, we wouldn't even be listening to the stuff we do right now.

-----------------------------

What genre do you listen to?
I'm not a fan of subgenres. I divide everything up very simply. I don't care about the 20 forms of punk or 50 of metal or whatever else. So really, I don't have any main preference... other than the fact that most of what I listen to generally fits in the "rock" category. Industrial, punk, metal, hard rock, classic rock... whatever. I also listen to classical, electronica, some hip hop and country and other things.

What are your favorite bands?
Hmm... The Top 5 are: The Pixies, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, David Bowie and Queens of the Stone Age.

Otherwise... The Toadies, At the Drive-In, The Tea Party, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Curve, Down, Dream Theater, Jack Off Jill, Scarling, The Flaming Lips, Beck, Apocalypse Hoboken, AFI, Bad Religion, godhead, 12 Rounds, Prick, The Cure, Rasputina, Deathcab for Cutie, Deadsy, System of a Down, The Breeders, Hendrix, Cibo Matto, Tool, Nirvana, White Stripes, The Cars, The Police, Phil Collins, Butter 08, G-Love and Special Sauce, NERD and so forth.

Why do you like them?
This would take three years to explain. For the Top 5 itself, it's mostly just the fact that I think the final products they put out generally transcend the boundaries put before them. Bowie is basically a rock god, and Trent Reznor of NIN has pushed music in general along farther than most anyone realizes. He was doing some things before other bands even dreamed of it, while simultaneously making industrial in general actually acceptable compared to groups like Ministry.

The Pixies, to me, are simply among the creators the whole alternative sound. Very few realize the impact they had in this day, outside of the bands themselves. It's quite a shame that they are falling into the shadows.

Marilyn Manson has just always appealed to me. The lyrics are some sort of bizarre poetry, the music is enjoyable and oftentimes beautiful(Mechanical Animals is simply amazing if you like Bowie in any way). They really have to be thanked for at least bringing the show back to rock. Prior to this you'd get to see a few guys sitting in chairs whining at you. I don't seem to have anyone here at OB to really discuss the sound or lyrics with, but they are really full of a lot of meaning.

And as for Queens of the Stone Age... I personally just think they are the probably the best hard rock band there is right now. Songs for the Deaf is amazing, especially when the music finally clicks for you and you can get lost in it. Their past stuff is also excellent, although a bit more offbeat really. They also have some great videos, especially the recent Go with the Flow.

What genre of music do you listen to? Alt-Rock, Emo, nu-metal

What are your favorite bands? Oh boy, here we go: LINKIN PARK!!!,Incubus, Dashboard Confessional, Further Seems Forever, The Juliana Theory, Audioslave, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters...AAARGH, too many to list

Why do you like them?Lyrics are cool on some, instrumental on some more, both on the rest

What genre of music do you listen to? Mostly rock; classic, modern, punk, metal, etc. No real use dividing it up when I listen to a lot of it.

What are your favorite bands? Too many to list here, so I'll give the 'ol top 5: Nirvana, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, The Beatles, and System of a Down.

Why do you listen to them? Well, I like the lyrical content, but the main reason is that I like the musical content of these bands more than any other. I'm pretty much more attracted to the bands that put more emphasis on music rather than lyrics.

What genre of music do you listen to? Just about any sort of music, I really like the oldies..., but I don't care much for country and most rap. But I make some exceptions.

What are your favorite bands? Linkin Park, Korn, BloodHound Gang, Blink 182, Nickleback, Saliva, Bon Jovi, Smashmouth, Pearl Jam, Creed, Eminem, Ray Stevens, Tatu, Flogging Molly(Irish Punk), Weird Al! and last but not least Garth Brooks

Why do you like them? I don't really have a reason. I just like the songs they have. They are all good bands, or solo singers.

What genre of music do you listen to?
Mostly I tend to listen to punk or hardcore, but I also listen to some ska, metal, rock, and goth as well. Transtic Nerve has got me into some Japanese bands which I enjoy listening to. In that case it does not matter if I cannot understand a word they are saying, it teaches you to appreciate the instrumental aspect of music. The voice, really, is just another instrument.

What are your favorite bands?
AFI, Tiger Army, Misfits, Malice Mizer

Why do you like them?

AFI - I have only known the band for three years out of their ten year career thus far, but aside from the first time I listened to them I have enjoyed every moment of it. I first heard AFI when my friend who introduced me to them told me about the band and about this locally broadcasted show on television that shows a half hour of rock videos. I got into watching that and soon after they aired one of AFI's music videos, which I believe was Totalimmortal because I remember it being black and white. Well, just listening to the song for the first time from a band I had never heard of I could not really follow a word they were saying. The song is not that fast at all, but I was not used to Davey's higher-pitched voice and just the overall sound of the band. This caused a sense of monotony in my head, and so I did not like them at first. Though, my friend really liked the band, and she was a new friend at the time. So I decided to give AFI another chance in trying to find some common ground between my friend and I. I borrowed their most recent album at the time The Art of Drowning. I took it home that day and I remember that going into my room, laying on my bed with the CD cover open to read that lyrics, and listening to the album was the first thing I did. It only took one time through listening to that album to get me hooked. Within a year of that time I had gone out and bought as many of their other albums I can find (not including their vinyls, because I have nothing to play them on). Right now, I only lack The Days of the Phoenix EP and Black Sails EP. Both of those are out of print, but I could probably find the first one around if I looked hard enough. I think I would have a harder time finding the Black Sails EP, though. I recall finding it very radical in buying and listening to their albums because I did not do them in order, and being that their sound has evolved with nearly every album it was always something rather different. I have yet to see them live. I am hoping to this summer (within the next few weeks actually), I just need to talk to my friend.

Tiger Army - I discovered this band shortly after AFI, because I looked inside The Art of Drowning's CD cover and looked at the bands AFI mentioned in the credits at the end. Tiger Army was pretty much "love at first note". I still do not know much of them, as I usually get distracted by AFI, lol. They have a good sound. The vocals fit with the instruments very well, in my opinion. Despite my lack of knowledge about the band in general, they are definitely a favorite.

Misfits - I discovered them after listening to AFI's cover of Halloween and going onto WinMX and downloading several of their songs (as you can see, AFI was pretty much my 'gateway band'). Again it was "love at first note". I know a bit more about them than Tiger Army. Over the years of listening to their music and buy a couple albums and such I have grown more and more into them. My friend (same as from above) says they are playing somewhere with a bunch of other people sometime in September or something like that. So I am hoping to see them then. She pretty much just told me, "You're coming" lol.

Malice Mizer - A Japanese band courtesy of the member Transtice Nerve. While I have only downloaded a handful of their songs, I absolutely love listening to this band. As I said before, I do not care that I cannot understand a word they are saying (though I can swear sometimes it is English, and it probably is). The way they put their music together is incredible. I think my mom is afraid of them, lol, so they must be good. ^__^

What Genre Of Music Do You Listen To: Street punk. Along with metalcore, hardcore, and some thrash.

What Are Your Favorite Bands: skycamefalling, AFI, Dillinger Escape Plan, Underoath, Remembering Never, The Unseen, Toxic Narcotic, Lost Cause, Thrice, Defiance, A Global Threat, and Funeral Dress.

Why do you like them?: Reason for liking skycamefalling, Dillinger Escape Plan, Underoath, Remembering Never is because I love their lyrics. Especially skycamefalling, it's like that emo-ish lyrics but really wicked. And their musical beats are insane, it's difficult to play lots of stuff from these bands.

Reason for liking AFI, oh well it's easy. AFI has been my favorite band for a few years now and I've always enjoyed them. I've seen the band mature musically. From their first CD to their last. I enjoy both of them, the first one for it's faster beat, and the second one for it's intense lyrics. But I'd have to say that their CD Black Sails In The Sun Set is my favorite. It's so perfect. Right in the middle of their career. The first song I heard of them is Boy Who Destoryed The World from like a THPS game. Haha...

Reason for liking The Unseen, Toxic Narcotic, Lost Cause, Thrice, Defiance, A Global Threat, and Funeral Dress is because I like the sound of street punk. The vocals are nice, and their lyrics are awesome. Especially Toxic Narcotic. Plus, most street lyrics tell you how it is, flat out. But their governmental songs are also true in some senses. So yeah, lyrics is the big business in the street punk genre. Toxic Narcotic would have to be the best lyrically for me. I mean, they are so literal in what they say, give it to you as they see it. And makes any rapper who talks fast like a little kid. Their lead sings insanely fast. So does A Global Threat's lead.

I'ma gonna have to agree with Semjaza on the whole music debate. Music is in the eye of the beholder just as is any other form of art out there. To some its beautiful to some its grotesque and to others its just boring. Thats art. The many shades of humans.
--------------------------------

What genre do you listen to? I listen to just about everything except for rap, pop and country. (Japanese Pop is not included in pop, I am talking about American pop. Blech) Oh and don't get me started on why I hate rap....

What are your favorite bands? Godsmack, Kittie, Ayumi Hamasaki, Trapt, Disturbed, DROWNING POOL, and Malice Mizer.

Why do you like them?

Malice Mizer: Hm...well courtesy of TN of course, but the music is really beautiful in my opinion. Its a mix of both worlds, and I like that. They are one of my favorite bands at the moment and I hope some day I could get one of their CD's. *HINT HINT Birthday or Christmas present *HINT HINT* I love the use of all their instruments it flows together as one, not one really sticks out more than another.

Ayumi Hamasaki I know she isn't a band, but her first album was just fun. I loved listen to it and still do. Its just fun to listen to. Many don't think of techno/dancy stuff as music, but she has a voice on her as well. She's an amazing singer!

Drowning Pool This is more of a lyrical content band. He was a talented singer, but their songs always struck home on me. They always seemed to be putting into words I've tried years to do. I've always loved them. They are my favorite band and I hate the fact that I will only get to have one CD....RIP!

Kittie: Ok its not often at all you see a girl band as popular as Kittie. So that tells you something right there if you look at popularity stats that is. They are a great band in my opinion. I like the instrumentals but what suprised me the most is the girls singing ability. Yelling then going back to singing and stuff. I thought she was quite talented.

Godsmack, Trapt, and Disturbed There is no real reason I like any of these three as my favorite, just for some reason I love these bands. Disturbed I've always loved their music, and he can sing well. Trapt a new comer on my list is not bad at all and I can stand them enough to listen to the whole CD through. Godsmack although as limited of what I've heard I do like them enough to say they are on the list.

I agree with what you are saying, but every genre has their plain waste of space bands in there.

Although J-Pop has alot of ....just blech....I enjoy some of it, and enough of it to list it ya know?

American Pop I can't stand....its just too whiney for my taste, and its not neccessarily about how well you can sing....

Of course I don't understand the lyrics for J-Pop so they could be whining as much as A-Pop but I wouldn't know ;)....Oh wells thats me for ya!

What genre of music do you listen to?
Alternative and Punk (mostly pop-punk)

What are your favorite bands?
Saves the Day, AFI, Rufio, The Used, Finch, Incubus, The Strokes, Taking Back Sunday, Linkin Park, Jimmy Eat World, Something Corporate, Coldplay, The Starting Line, Thrice, Hoobastank, The All-American Rejects, Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Why do you like them?
I've always liked the bands above that would be categorized as alternative, but for the more "punk sounding" ones I've just started getting into them. Within the last few years I've begun to hate my usual music of choice: rap. My favorites were Ja Rule, DMX, etc. Pretty much I just got sick of hearing the monotony, stupid lyrics, and lack of effort in the production of it. So then I started to like more R&B such as Dru Hill (still a favorite though I hate to admit it). And now we are in the present where I am listening to punk bands. I hear of most of them from my older brother and then I download their songs. It surprises me that I am not bothered by screaming in music anymore. lol

On the issue of lyrics...
I first need to like the way the song sounds, then I worry about the lyrics. For instance, on my voyage of downloading every Something Corporate song that exists I stumbled upon 3 that had the dumbest lyrics I possibly have ever heard: "If You See Jordan," "Drunk Girl," and "Babies of the 80s." I quickly deleted these three songs from my computer because they were so stupid that they were not worth a second listening.

What genre/s of music do you listen to?
I am fairly ecclectic...I listen to pretty much every genre (yes, including some country) although I tend to listen to more "blusey" rock than anything else. The only genre (well, sub-genre) dislike is EMO punk...but I really don't have any reason to hate it, I just do.

What are your Favorite bands
My favorite bands are quite a bit different than the bands that I am listening to right now so I'll list a few of both. A few of my favorite bands are: The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and The Beatles...and the bands/artists that I have in my CD player right now are: Ben Harper, Jon Mayer, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Alice n' Chains

Why do you like them?
I usually like bands for their instrumentals (or innovative instrumentals) or if their lyrics just speak to me in a certian way. It just kind of depends...I like different types of music during different times of my life.

I don't really have a fave genre...I listen to all rock/rap, occasionally some others too.

Currently I'm listening to amateur rap, its hot. I also listen to alot of Chevelle.

Chevelle well....it ownz. The amateur rap, its refreshing, I'm sick of mainstream and this is better in my opinion.
