Here's another attempt at a different banner. (All I'm doing is taking saved pics from my computer and putting them on a banner) Any tips would be appreciated! Thanx! KKC Posted June 9, 2003 Share Posted June 9, 2003 For your first attempt I would say its pretty good, but banners are usually made by cutting out the images by using layers and such. Paint Shop Pro is a good program for banners and such. You should fiddle with it for a little while and then you'll understand it better, but for a first attempt, I think their good banners. Okay I have a quick tip that I give to anyone who uses screenshots, do not use them! They are blurry and fuzzy. Try and get some actual pictures or wallpapers and use those. That's all I have to say! I think you are doing good! Keep up the work and you will get better! Also the second one is a lot better b/c there aren't soooo many picts. And I think for a first banner, this is good. And by what you are saying, you act as if Armadillomon cant improve the banners at all. This area, I say, is about giving people tips on their banners so they can become better at making them. What your doing is insulting someone who just made their first banner and not giving them any tips at all. Every banners has good spots and bad spots in it. Why dont you try to help people instead of insulting them? Kaola Su is right, you shouldnt use screen shots unless they are clear. And when you do have clear ones, you should try cutting them out, Thats way their will be more room on the banner and the you can see the BG good. Veyr nice for your first try. You have a nice sense of arrangement and I can tell a lot of work was put into making those banners, plus you did it in MSPaint? One suggestion would be, when using MSPaint for banner design, especially when first starting off, is less is more. You can't really negotiate layers and transparency levels (sorry for any misspells), so you really want to opt for the basics. Once you get the hang of it you can start to incorporate several pictures into one single banner. Maybe just focus on one image, or two, and make sure that the pixel resolution is clear, meaning: make sure you can make out what the pictures really are. Looks like you already made yourself a banner fan in Wormmon's Tamer also - great job. ^_^ Edit: Oh ya, also try saving your pic's in a differant file format other than bmp (bitmap). Say whatever you will, but I think it could be way better, even for a first attempt... That's what I am saying... I will tell you, my first designing stuff weren't good, but yet, I could do something better... I got comments as harsh as these I am giving, and that helped me to try to make better things... So yeah, I know everyone has to start somewhere, but yeah, if you practice, it will be better, BUT, just practicing the same, without trying to do changes doesn't help. Armadillomon: Don't get what I said as offense, I was just saying that you need practice, and that even for a first time, it could be better. Just practice. If you cant take bad crits then dont post your work, even if it was great then not everyone would like it. So i'd have to say that im totally with DD on this. First thing you have to do if you want to get into making graphics seriously is get your hands on a copy of photoshop 7 or 6, or paint pro seems to be quite popular for some reason o.0; anywho.....well...what else is there to say... Microsoft Publisher or PowerPoint [I]might[I] work, but I can only use those at school, and we're done with school for the year. I do agree with those of you who thought that the second banner was better. And I do understand that the less pictures you have makes the banner better, but that's what Wormmon's Tamer wanted. Again, no offense taken, and thanks for the advice! If I try another banner sometime soon, I'll post it here as well, and this time it will be saved in jpg/gif.
