Zephyr
Time once more for another installment of The Evil Anime Reviewer. I review, so you do not have to. First: Crest of The Stars (ep. 1-4) A very interesting anime. Set in the future where genetically altered humans called the Ahb wish to control all of space. They care little for the planets they conquer as they live in space and not on land. The first episode seems slow because it is set seven years in the past to show how the main character became part of Ahb royalty, even though he is not an Ahb. Past that it is a great anime series (so far) and I recogmend it to anyone that wants to see a sci fi show with what appears to be a love story starting very early. Next: Excel Saga (ep. 1-5) This one makes me ask one simple question right off the bat: "What were they smoking?!?" It is the most unusual anime ever, which is proven when the main character, Excel, is sent by Lord Ilpalazzo to kill the creater of Excel Saga. Even more unusual is the fact that Excel's partner is a Martian Princess who seems to be anemic and cannot stay standing for more then ten seconds. There also seem to be background characters in every episode that play no real part other then just to amuse people. And I will not even mention the sick mind needed to create the "Emergency Ration" that Excel keeps going after. Finally: Gatekeepers (ep. 1-3) A superpower filled, post WWII (about 15+ year IIRC) with an alien invasion theme. Basically, there is a secret "Earth Defence Group," codenamed A.G.E.I.S., that is using teenagers with to create "Gates" that release enormous power to hunt down an alien race bent on planetary domination. Queen Asuka
I've seen the first volume of Excel Saga and I love it. It's hilarious, really. She's trying so hard to win the affections of that evil Lord guy, and he HATES her! Ha! But she's just so cute, you know? You can't really help but to love her.

And to answer Black_Phoenix's question, nobody is quite sure what Koshi Rikudo is/was smoking. But we can be sure that it's some really good stuff.. Kurama_Fan
I have the first two volumes of Gatekeepers (the manga) and I love it! But there's one problem... it's rated youth and they curse a lot.
WW2
I own the entire Excel Saga series on DVD, and I cherish it. I love its twisted sense of humor and its anime perodies. Plus Nabeshin, his Afro Warriors, and Illpalatzo have to be some of the coolest/funniest characters ever! Oh, and Daitenzen should deffinately get their own series. As for the other two series, I've seen them for sale, but their not my kind of anime.

Zephyr
Yep. Time for another round of The Evil Anime Reviewer. Due to a conflict in my college schedule and the people that rent from my library I only have on review this time. Fushigi Yugi-Eikoden (four-part OVA) First off, this is not the actual made-for-TV series. Instead it is a follow-up OVA (kind of like GW:Endless Waltz). It is the second follow-up OVA that I know of. This is a great movie for anyone that enjoys fairytale style shows. Mayo (main character) falls in love with Taka (seen in the orginal series), but becomes enraged and jealous as he marries someone else. As a result, three months she opens "The Book Of The Four Gods" and finds herself trapped inside, in the role of Priestess of Sukazu (Suzaku is the bird-like god of the south). Taka enters the book after his wife (also from the orignal series) falls into a coma and their unborn child it transported into the book and Mayo. What follows is a four-part struggle to find the "Suzaku Seven" and return the dying world to normal, and to return Mayo, Taka and the baby to the real world. IMO this proves to be a great anime choice. The story is great, the underlying love story plays a very good part (and it not just there for humor), and the artwork is great. The only downside is that there are parts that refer to the orinal 52-episode series, and can lead to a few unanswered questions. Beware the two-face Chichiri. :p
XxmagentaxX
You actually liked it? I thought it was horrible. with the computer graphics and the horrible dubbing and the non existant villain... I dont see how anyone could have enjoyed it

I just wanted to keep my threads from gretting cluttered up with confusing replies. As for the "Evil Anime Reviewer" part, it was just something I made up on the fly. I needed a name that would work and that one just jumped into my head. (Besides, I have been accused of being evil IRL):p
pbfrontmanvdp
Excel Saga is great. Hyatt is halarious when in the 3rd episode
she was always dieing and reviving at the right moment when Ilpalazzo trys giving her instructions.
Plus i love how they always use references from real life in the story. Whats so weird is it actually has a plot...i mean i would have never thought it did but it does. The ending to it was also great
espically since they made fun of DBZ with Mr. P vs. "That Man" in a finale showdown.
If anyone wants a good laugh all the time buy these DVDS. Queen Asuka
Well, about the new FY thing, I was about to buy it recently, but then I heard from a friend of mine that it wasn't all that great. Have you actually seen the TV series? I've seen the TV series and the OVA series and they are among my favorite. So I don't want it to be ruined by this new follow-up.
Zephyr
I have not seen the TV version so I cannot compare it to the OVA. XxmagentaxX, I will agree that the computer effects left something to be desired, but I was refering to the actual drawings, not the computer images. And a side correction, according to the DVD booklet this one is actually the 3rd OVA in the series.

Zephyr
New review time. :D This week: Ah! My Goddess- The Moive First off a note. I have never seen the orignal AMG TV show so I cannot compare the two. I have heard that it was at comedy, if so this movie deviated completely from that idea. It is strictly action with a standard love story. Anyway, this movie was fantastic. The "crazed, ultra-powerful villian trying to recreate things in his image" bit has been done to death before, but this one is better. I has now become a battle joining Heaven and Earth to defend the existance of humankind as it exists now. Belldandy has to face a horrible time in her past that had been taken away from her, and is forced to choose between a live from the past and one from the present. The fate of humans may very well be decided by her choice. It seems strange to see an action movie that requires a love story as a deciding factor, even though it would not be a first. As an added bonus for those with the DVD there is a preview of "The Adventrures of Mini-Goddess," lasting about fifteen minutes, and an art gallery. I recommend this movie to anyone that likes a great action movie with a love story.
Queen Asuka
The original AMG Tv series is just like the movie: A love story with it's funny moments. Whoever told you it was strictly comedy was very mistaken. I got this movie as one of my graduation presents and I absolutely adored it. I didn't care for the dub because Belldandy had Miaka's voice, but I did think it was cool that Urd had Nuriko's voice. I liked the differences from the TV series and I think Skuld is just absolutely adorable. My favorite part was when they reached the Gate and Belldandy and Keiichi had to walk through. It was so amazing. ^_^
Zephyr
>>The original AMG Tv series is just like the movie: A love story with it's funny moments.>> Thanks for letting me know, Queen Asuka. No one really told me it was a comedy, just that it was rather funny at times. Guess I just read into that the wrong way. >>My favorite part was when they reached the Gate and Belldandy and Keiichi had to walk through.>> Yeah that was a cool part. And with the constant descriptions of how "picky" the gate was the end result really could have gone either way, unlike other such endings which really do not put much doubt into the viewer. Zephyr
Once more I am back. Personal difficulties stopped me from writing last week, so now I have a double review. First up... Bubblegum Crisis (eps. 1-6) All I can say to start with is that I am glad that Kenichi Sonoda did the character designs and the designs of their battle suits. I have been a fan of his after I started reading the Cannon God Exaxxion comic books. Now as for the description, here goes. This is another science fiction work involving mecha, but this time it is not limited to large mechs. In fact, large mechas are in the minority in this show, as most are designed to pose as humans. Set in the year 2032, and in an area called Tinsel City. The city is under constant attack by Boomers, humanoid robots often disguised as humans, and heavier models that look less human. Defending the city is a group of four female mercenaries, the Saber Knights, who possess Hard Suits, armored suits who's designs had been lost durning production. This is a good anime. The episodes are longer then normal (about 40 min.), and the sound effects do not always seem to properly coincide with the action. Other then that I really enjoyed watching this show. This is definately not for childern though, as it contains perversion, delimbing and total bodily destruction at the hands of a high-caliber machine gun. Up next... Bubblegum Crisis: Hurricane Live Not really an anime itself, Hurricane Live focuses on the music of the show. Viewers can choose from live action songs, recorded at actual concerts, or music videos created from various scenes from the anime itself. This is a must for anyone that enjoyed the music of the show as much as I did.
