after azure neglected my theory (which is a good thing by the way...)
i have found myself extrodinary confused about what is the voice in hack//sign, it seems to be evil, and dark, it orders maha, and it can change things in the world, its not a hacker (i presume) but what is it than?...

Personally... I think it's
Tsukasa's mother
I'm sure it said that it was in the series, and he always calls it
mother
-- The reason I have spoiler tags is I think it's revealed a little later on... Although I doubt what the voice told Tsukasa is really true... It's too evil for that O_o Only time will tell ^_^

And just on the topic, I think Maha is the voice's minion O_o I don't think he likes threatening Tsukasa and intimidating him in the way he does... he just has to for his own sake...

There! *pops 2 cents in the thread* ^_^

I've got only one name for the voice: Morganna. If it's not her, then they haven't identified her. Who is Morganna? I have no clue, but at the opening (and ending) of MUTATION, you hear these words from one of Harald's notes:
I must speak with Morganna. To go where she is, the living flesh poses a hinderance. But I must go, for our Aura...

Emma, please give me a little more courage.
Morganna matches the ominous voice's location. What I mean is that living fresh thing, and then the fact that Harald has to go for "our" Aura. And that might explain why we find the "broken man" (aka Harald) in such a weird place and condition. He had to do that in order to save Aura.

The crazed mother idea works, though (Tsukasa says its his mother soon after he finds that place, so no spoiler tags :p). It did say "Emma" on Tsukasa's mother's grave in that flashback (if it was Tsukasa's mother). Maybe Emma wants her child to be happy forever with her...

It says Emma on his mother's grave!?
I was thinking in the beginning of the games could that be Morganna's view of the world? It's all jumbled up in the first one but it's alot clearer in Mutation?

0-0 IT SAYS THAT!? I thought it just had letters but they were all faded out so you couldn't see.. If you're refering to that flashback with little Tsukasa at the funeral... If you mean the flashback in the first portion of LIMINALITY, no... Tsukasa's mother probably didn't know that old guy (I know who the old guy is, but I'm not sayin' 'cause I forgot how to do spoiler tags)

 • 2 weeks later...
This is what I know from reading acurate episode summeries from a trustworthy site
Morganna, that is what the voice is called, at least I am pretty sure it is. Anyways, She is evil, she did knock out Tsukasa in the episode, "Tempest."
Major Spoiler section!
When Aura is about to awake in the episode "Return," Tsuksa touches her and the voice gets angry. Tsukasa is a girl, you will find out in the next few episodes.
Here is a thought that deviates from the rest.

Could Morganna (the voice) actually be "The World"?

This thought comes from two parts. First is a quote from Helba in .Hack//Mutation. Helba speaks of The World as being alive and being a "she" (though that may have just been used to apply a gender to something nuetral). The second point is that in anime it is common to have computers that become sentient when given access to large amounts of data (such as the internet).

This idea would explain the powers that Morganna has over things.

The black sentances are spoiler tags. Spoilers arnt allowed unless the thread already says it will have them. To cover them up you do this:
your message [/ spoiler] but with out any spaces. Welcome to OB
