Anime Looking for info

Hi, i'm just new here but i was wondering if there was anyone who could help me. See, a couple of years ago i had this anime on video, but it got sold to someone. I was just trying to find out what it was called and any web links to it. The trouble is, i can only remember little bits of what happened in it. Here is what happened (in no paticular order of the story): there was a girl and a boy in what was like a post apocalyptic city where massive (maybe round) robots stomped around. This boy went into a building and found a big lazer gun thing and was in the middle of a bridge connecting two buldings when he fired it. This girl had a round yellow pet thing with a face and in the end, it calls all its yellow friends and they form a big yellow thing to fight the robot. The film(?) ends with this goddess and a girl on a picnic. The goddess is relating the story to the young girl. Sorry, thats all iremember.

Not sure but it does sound me like a giant mecha series I've heard of, try basing searches on that if it helps any. If it doesn't amount to anything, I'm sorry.
