Alexa
I was looking at all my old posts, and had realised how much I have changed since I started at these boards. I mainly posted in the Digimon/Pokémon forums, whilst now I post in the Otaku Lounge and Art and Design forums. Also, my posts were stupid and childish, and my thread ideas embarass me now, when back then I thought they were fantastic. How much have you changed since you joined the Otaku boards? *just so you know, I did join before dec 01, in July 01. There were some long time failure in the boards in August, and I didn't bother to join until December* This is really intersting to think about, especially if you are a long term member.
amibasuki
oh man, back in the day when I first joined (May '01), I acted like such a dumb, sugared peppy n00bie. if I were to talk to myself how I was two years ago, I wouldn't be able to stand me. I've calmed down for the most part since then, and I'm a tad bit smarter, thank God, so I'm at least a bit more tolerable now.
PiroMunkie
Oh god yes, I have changed quite a bit. Of course, I was originally here back in the day when standards were lower. So really, I have matured along with OtakuBoards. Post quality has also been effected by the formal writing I have to do for school such as themes. You may notice that I rarely ever use contractions in writing these days. Even earlier today on AIM I was talking with one of my friends and at one point I went back and retyped a sentence after I had already sent it through because I had to change the tense of one word in that sentence. Then I mentioned that it probably could have used commas in certain places... o_O I understand completely about how rather embarassing it is to look back on older posts. If I ever met who I was back then I would beat the life out of me, lol. I also try to keep my posts in relative length depending on the forum/topic. I mean, you cannot really go into a full essay on commenting someone's personal photo, but otherwise I usually shoot for at least two paragraphs, give or take.
XeEmO
Well I have not been on these boards long enough to notice very much of, if any change in the way I act. On the other hand I have been on the web long enough to notice a change. I have some old AIM conversations on my other computer saved for some reason. I was looking through them fairly recently actually and I acted pretty messed up back then. Then I think about it and most of these were from a few years ago. I wasn't really that used to talking to people online anyway so I imagine I acted quite differently than I did in real life. My friend told me last night that I act pretty much the same online now as I do in real life, except i'm "more talkative online". I think that's mainly because whenever I try to talk in a group of people in real life everyone trys to say stuff all at once. I just try not to interrupt what other people are saying. Rhys Mayiessen
Well even though I haven't been at these boards a year yet I think I have changed a little bit. I didn't know what a message board was until Darkmoon bugged me to come here. I learned as I posted and now I really know what a message board is^^ I also never posted or signed up for a RPG cause I didn't know what the heck they were. Darkmoon tried to explain it to me but I still didn't get it...I finally signed up for one and now I join them all the time^^
Guest Zeh
*shivers* I'm embarassed to look back, even in September, i was horible. Back in '00 when i joined, i used to think the way i posted was great, now i refuse ot look back. Maybe 1/10 of my posts were coherant. It's murder, i say... Kinetic
I was also a poor poster when I first joined. These were my first message boards I believe and I had no idea how they worked at first. I remember the days when Will2x's post count was deleted and every time you posted in the Dragonball Z forum, once your post was authorized, there would be two more right after it. And then the 70 second post limit was put into place, and that slowed it down alot. I was an awful poster. I remember one occassion when I believe Zeh here had to scold me for posting nothing but smilies (your name was once just Trunks, wasn't it). Anyway, I have improved alot I like to think. And I know how a message board works, heheh.
Syk3
Oh yes, I too have noticed quite a change. If I was a moderator when the past me first joined, I probably would have banned myself. Most of my posts were complete spam, with poor grammer and puntuation, and I'd even use specific letters as words, such as "c" and "u". You know what I'm talking about. ;) When I joined in June of 2001, I would post a lot more than I do now, mainly because I didn't take the time to put any effort into my posts. Of course, as Piro said, the boards were much more lenient back then and nothing got done, down to where people would be talking about Dragonball in the test forum and no one would do anything about it. o_O The boards have matured, and so have I, so instead of going back to when the boards first started and trying to answer every single thread in the Dragonball forum, I find myself posting not as often, but with much more thought-out posts, and in a variety of forums. I am very thankfull that I didn't join in one of these newer versions, where we are more strict in making sure that everything goes well around the forum, lol. The very old versions were a mess when I look back; bleh.
Kei
I was pretty bad when I first got here. I remember the first post I had, which was in DB, was barely even a sentence, lol. Like amibasuki said, if I met me back when I was a newbie, I'd probably beat myself senseless. I've improved by leaps and bounds since then. I know I would be where I am now if I hadn't, lol.
Ben
Sheesh. I remember I was a very arrogant person back then. This was probably the first major online community that I had been to and it made me feel like I could get away with anything. So naturally the worst part of me came out. IRL, I'm a very shy, self-effacing person. So naturally, my first thread was entitled "Bring it On!" which was a challenge to everyone to quiz me on digimon. If I remember correctly, I was severely schooled by the wielder of the Mod Rod ( :modrod: ) Ginnlyn. some guy by the name of cynic-042 helped out a bit too. ;)
stardust
wow, I've changed a lot I think. I've really learned. It's so cool to grow up into this, I've been here since that time long ago *flashback* when the boards were hacked or whatever and went down,it was wild! And they ahd to rebuild them. I've met so many people and stuff. Back in the day, I was rather immature and stuff, or people thought i wuz,cuz i had this guy who was spamming (there wuz a time u could do that~shocking ain't it??) he kept IMing me and crap.....ahh.....the memories...... Manic Webb
I don't think I've changed that much over the past year. I had already joined another message board similar to OB a while back, and they had nearly the same anti-SPAM rules. In fact, I think they were more strict. Aside from finding out that one of my friends was a mod here, I joined OB because it was a message board with actual rules. I can't stand message boards where people double or triple post. I think my posts have become longer, though. And I'm spacing my paragraphs a lot more, these days. But most of all, I'm posting less frequently. I hated having to reach 250 posts just to become a Junior Member. I went a little post crazy for a while, but then I finally reached Member. After that, I started to calm down, because I knew it'd be a long time before I reached my 1000th post (which took me a few weeks short of a year to do). Lady Asphyxia
Well, i certainly wish I could say that I was as perfect then as I am now ^.~, but seeing as I'm no where near perfect now, and I was even less so then, I won't. My first posts were really bad, but I got better as time went on. They always seemed to be coherant, though, which is a plus. So yeah, I've changed a lot, especially with the Newbie Lounge and it's creation/decimation. I'm glad it was there, and I'm actually glad that it went. The Newbie Lounge Petition thread was, apart from being odd, fun. Not that I wouldn't mind the newbie Lounge back, everyonce in a while, but I'm happy for it not to be here. [o.O I hoep that's Coherant. ^^"]
Dragon Fou Lu
I would say that i've changed a little, not very much but at the time i registered i wasn't here very often. :p now i check the forums at least once every day :) mind you i was a lot busier then and i posted a lot bigger posts than i do now. :(
James
Hm...this is an interesting thread. I don't know if I've changed much, in terms of posting. I think my post quality has always been the same. But my attitude has changed, for sure. When I started with this job, it was easy to get overwhelemed. And in particular, it was easy to take things personally and to get emotionally involved. I don't do that anymore. And that's only come through experience. If someone ever told me "You're this or that and nobody likes you", I would more often than not get the impression that the entire membership hated me or something. But that's not really true -- and I know that especially because I talk to so many people from OB each day. That's been such a great experience, especially. So I suppose that, moreso than before, I'm now used to managing things here. I don't get too emtionally involved, because I always remember that I'm doing a job. But at the same time, it's great to make friends and chat with people away from OB. That's been the best "change" that I've experienced. I'd say that in the last six months especially, I've had contact with more OB members than ever before. So, anyone who hasn't chatted to me and who'd like to should do it. I encourage it. ^_^ It's always fun to meet members for the first time.
Guest Musahi
http://www.otakuboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=895 I decided to dig this up so that I could let you all have a laugh at AJeh and Syk3. I forgot how I found it though..o O'' I really have not changed that much. *looks at first page of stuff he posted* Sex Pistols: Still love them That 70's show: Still love it Bowling for Columbine: One of my favorite movies Of course I have not been here nearly as long as most of you people. I'm not emberassed about my old posts either, a few typos here and there. But I think they are all pretty nice posts, nothing perfect, but nothing horrible. I don't visit Anime Lounge nearly enough anymore. All I seemed to do in there was defend Yu Yu Hakusho and now that has it's own forum. =P So I guess I have not changed, at all. KittyLynn
Me and Ginny went through the whole Digimon forum a few weeks past. And I was so embarrassed at my ideas and what I posted. I was the kind of person I hate! I didn't make any sense and I double posted and didn't use proper grammar or anything. I have changed a lot! Whoa..But those were the good ol' days. Oh dear lord how I miss them. ^^;; -I used to be Calumon_luver..*sniffle* I'll always be C-L
