Chapter 10: Trouble at Caesars Palace

The moon and stars covered the nightly sky. Hours had passed since Scott and his friends defeated Lara. They were now in a place where the lights ruled the night. The city of Las Vegas.

The taxicab that held Scott and the others stopped at a large hotel. One of the most famous hotels at Las Vegas, actually. They were at Caesars Palace. Derek had given them more that enough money for a trip and hotel rooms for Las Vegas. The group grabbed their bags and walked to the entrance, after paying the cab driver. Noah walked instead of floating, so people wouldn?t be suspicious. The first thing they all wanted was sleep.

Someone walked into the school office. The office was dark as usual. The only light in the room was from the monitor of the computer. Lance was staring blankly at the screen. The man walked towards Lance.

?Forces are at Las Vegas, sir,? the man said. They?re staying hidden at the moment.?

?Good,? said Lance. ?Take your leave.?

The man left the room. Lance started typing on the computer?s keyboard then two monitors appeared on the screen. In both windows there was a man hidden in shadows.

?Evening, Lance,? said one of the hidden figures on the monitor.

?Skip the greetings,? said Lance coldly. ?You are aware that the four that defeated Lara are in you territory, am I right??

?But of course.?

?I?m trusting that you are prepared for them.?

?Do not worry Lance. I have a plan to get rid of these pests.?

?And what plan is this?? asked the other hidden figure.

?Ah, if you only knew, it?s quite ingenious if you ask me.?

?For your sake, you?d better be right.?

?Oh don?t try to threaten me yet, Lance,? said the first man. ?You should doubt a master of water yet.?

?Just don?t screw up.?

Then the first man?s window closed.

?And you?? Lance asked the second man.

?We have only just started searching, Lance,? replied the man.

?You?d better hurry up, just in case our ?master of water? fails.?

?Heh, you doubt he will be successful??

?I don?t believe that?s any of your business.?

?Of course not, Lance. I shall get to work then.?

?You?d better.?

The last window then closed and Lance continued his stare at the monitor.

Davis fell face down on the bed. Again, the group gets two rooms, both with two beds. Scott and Davis shared one room with Lisa and Noah in the other.

?Ah man, I?m ready for bed,? said Davis.

?Yeah I know,? yawned Scott. ?Let?s get some sleep and start looking for the guardian tomorrow.?

?I think Noah was going to sleep anyway,? said Lisa.

Noah was sitting in a chair, sound asleep. Lisa walked over to Noah and slightly shook him. Noah then awoke.

?Come on,? said Lisa. ?Let?s get you to bed.?

Noah slowly nodded and floated to the other room.

?Goodnight guys,? said Lisa, following Noah.

?Goodnight,? said Scott and Davis.

An hour had passed. Noah was slightly snoring. Lisa, however, couldn?t sleep. She lay in bed, thinking. Lisa was starting to feel lonely for some reason. She got up from her bed and walked towards the window. She opened it and looked outside. The cool wind blew against her face and made her feel refreshed.

?How come I?m always feeling lonely?? she thought. ?I know that the feeling will go away, once I find my birth parents. That?s one of the reasons why I?m on this journey. But who am I kidding? The chances of me finding my parents on this trip are a million to one.?

A tear streamed across her right cheek. Lisa then did something to soothe her heart. She sang. She sang a tune to the night. A song so soothing that Lisa forgot her troubles.

It was morning. Ten in the morning to be exact. Scott, Davis, and Noah were waiting outside the hotel, waiting for Lisa. Scott was looking an Astral Fragment that Derek had given him back at San Francisco.

?What are you doing?? asked Davis.

?Just checking to see if it?s blinking,? answered Scott.

Lisa then emerged from the hotel.

?Sorry to keep you guys waiting,? said Lisa. ?Shall we go??

?Yeah,? replied Davis. ?Let?s go.?

The four started walking until they heard someone calling to them from the hotel. They turned and saw a man with brown shaggy hair walking towards them.

?Hey, young lady,? the man called out.

?You mean me?? asked Lisa.

?Yes I mean you. There?s no other young lady here. I?m Harris. I?m running the entertainment that?s happening at this hotel tonight. Anyway, I was hoping you can answer me something.?

?Sure, what is it??

?Do you have a sister? An older one??

?Uh, no. Why do you ask??

?Well, I heard an amazing singing voice during the middle of the night. I was hoping I could find the singer. I am in need of a singer for tonight.?

?During the middle of the night??

?Yeah.?

?Well, that?s me. I was singing during the middle of the night.?

Harris started to laugh. Lisa then shot an ugly look at Harris while he laughed.

?You must be joking,? said Harris.

?No, I?m not,? replied an annoyed Lisa.

?You have to be kidding. There is no way a kid like you could be the singer I heard last night.?

?Excuse you, that was just rude! I?m telling you I was the one singing last night.?

?Nice try, kid, but I highly doubt you were the singer.?

Harris walked back into the hotel, leaving an angered Lisa.

?Who does he think he is calling me a kid,? growled Lisa. ?I?d have half a mind to not hit upside the head for that remark.?

?Calm down, Lisa,? said Davis. ?By the way, you can sing??

?Don?t start with me Davis!? Lisa snapped, shaking her fist in front of Davis.

?Woah, settle down. I didn?t mean it in a bad way. I didn?t know you sang at all.?

Lisa calmed down and started walking away from the hotel.

?I sing now and then,? she said. ?Mainly when I can?t sleep. I sang last night with the window opened. So that guy must have heard me.?

?Well, why don?t we go and prove that you can sing?? asked Noah.

?Nah, that?s all right. We have more important things to take care of anyway.?

?Right,? said Scott. ?Let?s go.?

It was half past noon and the group was already heading back to the hotel. Within the last half hour, Noah complained that he was hungry. Considering that they hadn?t had breakfast, the four decided to go back to the hotel for lunch. Since they were in public, they couldn?t just teleport back to the hotel room, which made Noah complain even more. Luckily, they took a cab back to the hotel.

?Are we there yet?? Noah asked for the fifth time.

?We?re almost there,? answered, yet again, an annoyed Lisa. ?At least I?m hoping we?re almost there. Are we driver??

?Yeah,? the driver replied. ?But there seems to be a hold up. Traffic don?t look to good.?

Scott and the others looked out the windows and saw a large line of cars ahead of them.

?I wonder what?s up,? said Davis.

?Better not be a monster,? moaned Scott.

?Nah, I think we would?ve seen some freaked out people running by now.?

?Sir, you said we are almost to the hotel, right?? asked Lisa.

?Right,? the driver replied.

?Okay, then we?ll pay you and walk from here.?

?You sure there, ma?am??

?Yeah, thank you.?

Lisa paid the driver and the four got out of the cab. The driver was right, they weren?t far from the hotel. In fact the four could see it from where they were.

?Why did you tell him we were going to walk?? asked Noah.

?Would you rather have waited in the cab in this traffic?? replied Lisa.

?Good point.?

The four started walking back to the hotel. It wasn?t long until they reached the front of the hotel and the source of the traffic. There was a number of police cars parked at the hotel?s entrance. Police were at the entrance of the hotel, keeping crowds of people from entering.

?What?s going on?? Davis asked a man in the crowd.

?They say there?s a group of terrorists at the pools of the hotel threatening to blow up the place,? the man answered.

The four looked at each other. Without a doubt, they knew the terrorists had to be the Infinite. The four snuck away from the scene.

The pools of Caesars Palace reflected the scene that was currently taking place off its water. There were seven men walking around the area, each holding a gun. One wearing sunglasses held a remote with one large red button.

?Think they?ll show up?? asked one of the men.

?They?d better,? the one holding the remote replied. ?If they know what?s good for this hotel.?

?If you know what?s good for you, you?d leave this place,? said voice.

?Who said that??

All seven of the men looked around the area. No one was there. Then someone entered the area. It was Davis, followed by Scott, Lisa, and Noah.

?You punks better beat it,? said one of the men. ?Unless you kids want a beating.?

The four summoned their weapons. The terrorists were surprised to see four kids holding weapons.

?Wait,? said the boss. ?You?re the kids who got rid of Perry and Lara. Heh, Lance is really wanting you guys dead. And I?m sure he?d pay us well for finally getting rid of you four. Get them!?

Then all seven of the men charged and shot their opponents. Lisa quickly summoned a barrage of razor leaves to destroy the oncoming bullets and all of the men?s guns. The men then brought out either knives or brass knuckles and charged at the four.

?This should be fun,? said Davis.

The men attacked Scott and Davis, but both nimbly dodged the strikes. Scott knocked some of the men into a pool by striking them with the flat edge of his sword. He even sent one terrorist running to the pool by throwing a fireball at the man?s pants and setting them on fire. Davis also sent the men into the pool by kicking them or using the flat edge of his sword.

Once all seven of the terrorists were in the pool, Noah floated over them and said, ?This is going to sting a bit,? before calling forth lightning from his staff to strike the pool?s water and electrocuting the men. The men?s bodies all dissolved into the air and were gone.

?Water is an excellent conductor for electricity,? commented Noah.

?Well, that takes care of that problem,? said Davis, making his weapon disappear, like the rest of them.

?Hey, what happened here??

Noah quickly dropped to the ground when he heard another voice. The four saw a gray-haired man running into the area. He wore gray slacks and coat, a white dress shirt with the collar open, and an undone black tie around his neck. He was carrying a brown wooden chest.

?Where are those seven men?? the man asked. ?The ones that threatened to blow up this hotel.?

?I think they left,? replied Lisa.

?Really? What are you four doing here anyway when there is, or was, a bomb threat occurring??

?We, uh, wanted to see what was going on,? said Davis. ?We heard they were in the pool area and when we got here, there was no one around.?

?I see.?

?Why did those men threatened to blow up the hotel?? asked Scott.

?They demanded this.?

The man opened the chest he held. All four of the group?s eyes widened. Inside the chest was a glowing crystal. It was no doubt an Astral Fragment.

?They must have heard that this was going to be at the party tonight and wanted it. It must serve some value to those thieves.?

?What are you going to do with the crystal?? asked Davis.

?I?m hoping to sell it at the auction after tonight?s entertainment. I have no use for it so I might of well make some money by selling it.?

?How much??

?I?m going to start the bid at ten thousand.?

?Woah!?

?What time?s the party, sir?? asked Lisa.

?Oh, you don?t have to call me sir. My name?s Craig. Anyway the party starts at seven tonight, not that it should concern you four. This party is not for anyone under twenty. And judging by the looks of you, you four are definitely not over twenty.?

?You, uh, got a point there,? said Davis.

?Yes, well, I have to go now. This incident has messed up my schedule. I?ll have the police keep an eye around here if those terrorists show up again. Good day.?

Craig then left the four in the area.

?Okay, you know what we gotta do,? said Scott.

?Yeah, but how?? asked Davis.

?Hey I got an idea,? said Noah.

Noah summoned his staff and waved it and a brown leather book appeared in front of him. On the cover of the book was ?Quick Spells for Those in Need.? Noah flipped through the pages, looking for something.

?What?s that?? asked Lisa.

?A spell book,? replied Noah. ?Before I left Odera, I grabbed this book. Ah! Here it is!?

?What??

?A spell that will give you guys an early twentieth birthday.?

That's ironically cool, if such a thing. It seems like Noah isn't very use to walking or not being able to use magic. Lisa being able to sing very well, and hotel dude not beleaveing her is great. It even got to build up some character in him, that he could often time when seen come off rude. Having a spell that could make them older could have some pro.'s and con.'s. Yet it could come in handy to get out of a few things. I like it, Odera sounds like such a cool place to vist.
