Metal Gear Solid 3! Yay!

Finally! The moment everyone's been waiting for; Metal Gear Solid 3! Unfortunately, it's titled 'Snake Eater' (forgive them, for they have sinned). Then again, the title makes sense as Snake, having to survive in the woods, can hunt down and consume a variety of fauna, including his namesake. Stealth takes a much more apparent role in the game, as it is set in some sort of large forest, complete with what appears to be Russian soldiers (a la MGS2). For more information (and some good screenshots from E3), go to http://www.gamers.com/game/1365062/ (sorry if this counts as advertising for other sites). I am psyched! *wraps gray bandana around mullet*

I seen screen shots and the video trailer for MGS3 and have to say it looks awsome!

The best part is that it puts Snake and the player in a different environment. Gone are the grey, dull military bases and warehouses. Now you get to play in the jungle, surrounded by trees, animals, waterfalls, etc.

I just hope Kojima has a good story planned out for the game.

Hm, I don't know. I prefer walking around through military bases and sneaking through air vents. Running around in the forest might not be my cup of tea.

But having said that, the entire concept of the game certainly looks interesting. o_O Hopefully more information will be released soon.

Buildings are boring compared to the jungle :D

I hated MGS2 to be honest. I did like the original MSX Metal Gear games and the first Metal Gear Solid, but 2 did nothing for me. I'm glad that they are more or less taking the game back to its MSX roots for MGS3.

I think after you see the trailer and the stuff they have Snake doing in the game, you'll have little to worry about. I'm not a big Metal Gear fan whatsoever, but I was pretty impressed by a lot of the new gameplay situations that seemed to come up.

I didn't like MGS2 either. Well, that's not entirely true...I liked the actual game for the most part, but some story elements in MGS2 were a bit silly (ie: the love story situation). It was too overplayed.

But the actual game was pretty good, though nothing particularly unique came up.

The thing I am most concerned about is variety. I liked the atmosphere of MGS as compared to MGS2. There was more variety in the levels (if you take the game's environments in their entirety) and generally speaking, I think that there was a greater intensity to the design in MGS.

The jungle has the potential to be highly repetitive and confusing. So, that's my concern with a jungle setting.

But having said that, I'm reserving judgement until I play the game for myself. I honestly have no doubt that Konami will do justice to a jungle scenario, I'm just pointing out a potential concern (and the fact that, no matter how good the game, it might be possible that I prefer the environments on one of the other MGS games).

I think I'm one of the only people that really enjoyed Metal Gear Solid 2 and it's story line. Bleh. Of course, if what you say is true, I'll absolutely fall in love with Twin Snakes, but that's another story altogether.

Tony showed me this clip of Snake Eater about a month ago, and it honestly freaked me out, what with Snake eating...snakes and all. When I watched it a few more times, I think the forest setting sunk in a little, but as James said, walking around trees alot could become sort of tedious. I really preferred going around military bases and whatnot from the second game, and that's how I see a MGS game, but I'm confident that Konami will blow us away with this title with amazing gameplay, graphics, and hopefully a story-line where you will be in control of Snake for most of if not the entire game; I think that's one of the things that people disliked about the second title.

On the positive side about the environment, though, it would be pretty interesting to sneak around in a forest. You'd have camafloge on, hide behind trees, and act out some insane guerilla warfare. There are some things that could easily be done wrong when creating such a senario, but Konami has probably gotten out on top of worse in the past. :-/

Well, I do think it's important to remember the first two Metal Gear Games. Not so much the second, as the first.

It started off in the jungle (both the NES and MSX versions), and got into many other things. There were plenty of bases and camps and everything else. A good deal of indoor areas that actually took up a substantial part of the game. You never really know where they could go with it. Afterall, Snake has to be in the jungle for a reason. I doubt he's going to just be hiding in trees and bushes the whole game, or at least I hope not.

I guess we'll see. It's similiar to First Blood (Rambo), which I think is kind of interesting heh.

Isn't is possible that the "snake" we see in the trailer is BIG BOSS.
In the final scene of the video he only has on eye. I also heard that snake eater was some code name during vietnam. Snake would be to young to be in vietnam even if he was 50 in MGS2.

I guess we will have to find out. I loved mgs2 i beat it on all the modes twice and got all the dog tags!

Well, yeah, I'm fairly confident that the entire game won't be limited to the jungle atmosphere.

According to what I've read, this is an approach that Kojima's been hoping to integrate into the series for quite some time: basically capture the feel or a real infiltration mission, where you land off target and use survival techniques to reach your destination.

That, combined with the fact that the central character is most likely Big Boss, actually have me looking forward to the game--even after the MGS2 debacle. Especially after I read Kojima's statement about making the title more action oriented than cinematic driven.

So, it's nice to see the series return to its roots. I think that the jungle environment really opens up a lot of interesting possibilities. Some confirmed abilities, like hiding in brush and dropping down from trees and such sound interesting.

Overall, the outdoor environments just offer so many advantages over the indoor ones (if they're structure properly, of course). Not only are they more fitting for a stealth oriented game, but the ambiance and constant threat of dangerous animals, like snakes, really give me the impression that game will keep my attention longer than MGS2 did.

I've seen screenshots and it looks kinda like they took MGSX and SOCOM and blended them together....look at it, you have the same environment that SOCOM takes place in and the feel of a true MGS game.....this'll be the first game I get when I can finally afford a PS2

Im really looking forward to MGS3 and The Twin Snakes. It brings the entire series to a whole new level. But i was hopin to find learn more about Raiden and The Patriots. I think there is a reason why Raiden became a charcter. I think that maybe Snake will eventually die of the FOXDIE Virus (remember MGS1?) and Raiden will take his place. Oh well.

Well I don't think we will find anything about them, since I heard this game takes place years before the other games. Snake may not have even been born, who knows.

But anyway, I can't wait till the game comes out. I liked MGS2, even tho alotta people didn't. I mean sure there was alot of story and it didn't seem to be a good one at that, but I enjoyed it. Well except the love story parts, those got old real fast. But I like those kinda movie games, where there are alotta cinemas to watch but I would have hoped for some more actually gaming.

And the jungle scene will just take the game to a whole new level, if they pull it off, and I think they will. And since they took off the radar and all the other things they're doing to make the game more realistic, with the eating of food and the such, this should make this MGS game more challenging than the rest.

I don't know why everybody suddenly hates MGS2. Now I'm not speaking to anyone here, simply because I don't know how they felt about it when it was released, but many people have suddenly changed their opinions on the game with no explenation. Back when it was released so many people (including me) loved MGS2. But now, what 2 years after it's release they hate it.

I personally have, and always will love MGS2. It's simply one of the best games out on the PS2 right now, and the whole Metal Gear series tells one of the most brilliant stories in the gaming world today.

MGS3 looks awesome, I was watching some footage of it on X-play the other day and I am really exited about this game. I can't wait to run around in the jungle, shoot snakes, and then watch as Snake eats them. I personally think the jungle is a better setting for the Metal Gear series, as Semjaza said it is where the original Metal Gear started off. Being able to drop down from trees sounds really fun, it reminds me of dropping in on people from 'Splinter Cell'. This game (for me) was probably the biggest thing shown at E3 this year and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

The main character will most likely be BIG BOSS. I didn't have to read much to figure that out. The game is set in the 60's.

I liked MGS2 but it was never as good as the psx version. The new one is going to be the best at least gameplay wise. I hope they include booby traps. I'm not talking about the mgs2 lockers either.

I must agree with James I'd rather sneak around military bases, but the jungle... hmmm it might be ok after all. Let's pray that is another great one.

In the latest PSM magazine, Hideo Kojima hinted that the jungle part of the game wasn't the only environment. He mentioned that Snake/Big Boss would have to travel through the jungles in order to sneak into the main military base.

It was also hinted that you will be able to operate certain vehicles. Like the motorcycle shown in the E3 trailer.

Sneaking through a jungle to a military base. Kind of like the older games. I've wondered how walking through jungle to a base would look in 3D. Everything I've seen about this game is very interesting.

I just found something wierd about the release date. I thought it was 2004. This website says NA(North America) 11/29/03, and JP(Japan) Announced. I think they mite have it backwards.

ive heard, amd i can't remember where, that MGS3 could be a prequel to them all, possibly that this is one of snakes original training missions that went wrong or that snake was a part of some other organization before even foxhound, who knows he could have been a marine. im also interested in the idea of it actually being big boss and that means that this could b based in the vietnam war. there are so many different twists that can go along with that such as this is where they get his dna to create the les infans terribles. man as im writing this im coming up with so many other possibilities in my head its overwhelming!!!!

- some people say that i have a.d.d. but they just don't understand m..... hey look a chicken!!!

I just barely saw the E3 trailer for Snake Eater on X-Play yesterday (just when I think I'm all caught up on gaming news, I have X-Play to remind me that I didn't go to E3) and I must say that it simply looks incredible. The parts in the jungle were fantastic and, hopefully, they will include some tense shootouts. All that sneaking around in the trees and under bridges to kill the guards was simply awesome. If only I had a PS2...

I just have to say this, I'm not a big fan of the MGS series in whole. I just don't like the controls of the game, but that's another story. Now, as for MGS 3, the concept of jungle looks pretty interesting, and for another thing, from what I've read from my gaming magazines, [EGM, Gamepro, XOM] they say that the jungle feel seems to work well and that the game will have new features and new moves to accomidate the change from building to jungle, for example, Snake will probably be able to climb on branches or trees and maybe jump from one tree another or swing from one to another using one of the tree things looking like a rope [I don't know what it is called so yeah.. Haha] I mean, I'll keep reading on it and when it comes out, I'll check it out, maybe play it once or twice, but I definately won't buy the game. This is all I'd have to say on the game.
