Ellerby
:twitch: Have any of you ever been lying in bed trying to get to sleep, and then all of the sudden you JUMP up in the air? Or have you ever been sitting on the couch watching T.V. when your leg twitches? I have...and frankly...I love it! You may be thinking I'm really weird right now but when I'm in bed and a just shoot up! It's awsome! I wouldn't really call it Twitching. But more of a Muscle Spazm. :p Anyway. Have this ever happened to any of you? -=§=-
Justin
It happens to me all of the time. Usually when I'm sleeping lightly, I'll have a dream about running or walking; I'll be going along and then suddenly trip or step into a hole, and then I'll wake up. When I wake up, I realize that my hole body has just jumped into the air. It's really weird. -Justin
Solo Tremaine
When they happen during sleep, they are hypnogogic hallucinations, so I'm told. Some people think that if you fall into a hole in your dream and hit the bottom then you die, and the 'jump' is your body saving you, but that's not true. The sleep in which dreaming happens is one you can easily be woken up from- it's almost like being awake in terms of brain activity. What happens is that the levels of emotional arousal basically causes you to wake up- in the same way some dreams can be vividly pictured as if you are there, this has the same effect. I think they're quite fun during sleep. Muscle twitches when you're awake can be frustrating, especially if it's your eye or mouth that's doing it. My kneecaps tend to jerk up and down when I'm cold. It gets really annoying after a few minutes, especially when you're trying to walk. If I wore shorts I'm sure it would look really strange. I had muscle spasms after breaking my leg, and boy those were painful.
Red
I get that sleeping twitch thing, but only when I fall down something in a dream or something along those lines. My hand twitches all the time. I can't hold it steady, especially with something like a pen in between my fingers. When I fight or get really angry/nervous both my hands twitch like mad, lol.
Shinmaru
I twitch when I'm nervous. I was supposed to be doing a debate for my English/U.S. History final, and I was twitching like crazy. Needless to say, I looked pretty silly in front of everyone.
nezzyjean
I'll trip on something in my dream, and then i'll wakeup, and my whole body just jumped in the air and stuff. Also, if u rub your eyes too often, your eyelids will twitch everynow and then (says my science teacher) That happens to my left eyelid sometimes...and it kinda feels cool. Guest Zeh
I've always had it when i sleep real lightly, i never really understood. It's wierd, because i'll be sleeping, but i'm almost physically concious, but dreaming at the same time... It's the absolute strangest sensation i've ever felt... Thanks Solo, you cleared that up... *feels enlightened*
RPGchick
yeah, i get that sometimes, except in my dreams, its always when i fall off of a bridge (i am afraid of heights so i have nightmares about this alot). when i wake up, i have to look around to make sure it is my bed, and not the bridge or the bottom of a gorge or something. its kinda freaky... Transtic Nerve
i don't do that wake up suddenly by sitting up or whatever. I justopen my eyes. I do shake sometimes though. Like when i have low blood sugar, my hands start shaking. Or if i put my foot resting in the right spot, it shakes, but thats a muscle reaction. Semjaza
I don't know how it's awesome lol. It wakes me up when I'm trying to sleep, which actually just sucks. I have this happen randomly. I wouldn't say often. Most of the time I wake up because my leg or arm bangs into the wall. I never just randomly sit up.
Deedlit
I do it. Sometimes during winter, my eye starts to twitch a bit....kinda like this....:twitch: Usually when I'm sitting, my leg will kick out. It's kinda wierd. Then my hand and fingers twitch sometimes. heh :twitch::twitch::twitch:
Sui Generis
I've had the sleeping, trip, jump in the air thing happen occasionaly. A more occuring one is sorta like that though. I sleep with my legs curled in, almost like I'm in a ball, and I'll be dreaming that I'm walking or something or jumping, and then my legs will extend fully out really suddenly and I'll be wide awake. Its a very weird feeling. Although the most occuring on is if I'm sitting on a coach or bed and me kness are bent and kinds spread my legs will have small little spasms where like my legs come closer to gether. Its quiet odd. Well except for I don't recall ever having a dream durring a light sleep about steping into a hole. But I always have dreams about tripping. It usually happens when i'm either just falling asleep or if I just woke up and I hit the snooze button on my alarm. EDIT: I also twitch when I wake up but i'm not fully awake. I can't move and when I try to move all I can do is twitch. Does that happen to any of you?
Kinetic
Finally I found some people that have the same problem lol. None of my friends in real life have the problem. Every once in a while, my arm will swing up, or my fingers will clench into my hand, digging into it. One time I even broke my toe because of it. I was sleeping, and I have a futon with a metal frame, so when I woke up, my leg swung out and broke my toe for the second time. I love how it feels when you twitch like this, but sometimes the consequences are bad.
amibasuki
sometimes my leg will twitch when I'm sleeping, usually when I'm sleeping on the couch, for no apparent reason. it gets a little irritating when I constantly keep waking up from it. the only time I've twitched from nervousness was when I went to an audition for a play at school. I was so busy concentrating on how my voice sounded, that I didn't notice that the hand that was holding the script kept jerking really badly. I finally noticed it about halfway through the audition and made it quit. heh, a couple of people had noticed it as well and commented on it, which made me feel like a doof :cross:.

Guest Crimson Spider
Not in my sleep. Parts of my body are almost always twiching. Usually on the side of my knee or my bicep or the side of my head. I hate it when I get a twitch so bad that I can feel the bone moving. I get this 24/7 so I am sick and tired of it.

I like it though. ^^ Sometimes I have muscle spasms, usually when they are sore or after a hard workout. ^^;; I'm weird. -Kitty
Juu
I actually don't move around much when I'm asleep. When I wake up in the morning, I find myself in the same position I was when I went to sleep. But when I was about seven or six, I would actually roll around so much, I'd fall off the bed, but not notice. oo;;; Same deal with me on the couch or bed watching TV. My parents always think I'm asleep because I don't move. >>;
Shaun
Ooo...it drives me insane! Whatever the muscle in your arm is between your bicept and tricept twitchs on my ALL the time. And also the one right above my knee. I tell you it sets me crazy. Especially when I am trying to go to sleep!! LOL!
Guest Musahi
Originally posted by Kinetic I have a futon with a metal frame
Gah, you have one too? Man I feel your pain, I never broke my toe or even kicked my futon for that matter. But I hit my head a lot, you know where the empty space is, where the arm of a couch would be? Yeah, I sleep better when I stick my pillow in that. If my pillow falls because of a cat (we have 4) or something. BANG, my head clanks against the metal frame. It hurts like hell. As for twitching my parents say I kick them if I sleep with them. Which isn't too often anymore, only if I fall asleep on their bed.

Yeah, hypnogona phenomenum, I have that. Sometimes it is horrible. In some cases, like mine, your body is awake but your mind is still asleep; you can feel pain from a dream that way. I once got stabbed in the stomach 3 times in that state of sleeping mind awake body. It hust so bad, and since they say you can't get hurt in a dream, I believed it really happened. I was wrong and now it scares the **** out of me to sleep sometimes. You all may say it's cool, and sometimes it is. But I have to remember, if I can get hurt in a dream, how to figure out it is a dream. Sometimes, I really don't know. Normally, though, I wake up from whatever pain it is, from stubbing my toe to being shot. Pain is not so fun. ~Lumi ^_^
Fall
My right leg twitches whenever I hear one of my favourite songs. Not like I intend it to. It just starts twitching and I can't stop it. Same with my right eyebrow. It starts flickering when I hear one of my favourite songs too. Pretty mad.
TheShinje
I swear I jump right through the roof when I twitch, and it can be really annoying when you're trying to get some sleep V_V Thin g is, I don't have to be falling in the dream for this to happen, the worst case of twitching I've had is when I woke like that about 50 times in one night, I think I cried out of frustration, and then put my favorite cd on until my body was way to tired to twitch. Horrible night, I'll never forget it *_v
