Ki/Chi--Is it real?

Does anyone else here believe that ki/chi (energy present in all living things) is real? I'm not talking specifically about the Kamehameha or something like that, I'm talking about that energy that some people can tap into to (temporarily) heighten senses, increase strength/intelligence, whatever. Well? Am I just insane, or does anyone agree with me that it exists?

(If you don't believe me, here's an idea; when you're lying in bed, and it's absolutely quiet, try to just clear any thoughts out of your mind. And if you feel this sense of strength, try concentrating on it becoming stronger/more intense.)<--This happen/work for anyone?

-I warned you I was loco. :alcohol: I'm serious, though.

So? Anyone agree with me?

I'v never actually considered trying this before. Hmmm...now you've got me all curious on the matter! I will have to try this out sometime to see if it works. Oh well, I'll see what ever one else says for now. Sorry I couldn't help.

I'm not sure about it... but I have practiced some psychic stuff. I've gotten auras and energy to show up and even form some energy in my hand. Then again, it could all be imagination O.o

The energy did feel warm, though, and I moved a pencil about a centimeter or so, but who knows if I did it.

It may be real, normal humans controll 10% of their brain. The other 90% of all human's brains are cut off from their normal limitaions, because that is to do other things that I won't say here. So if you were to do more then what normal humans could do now you'd be using about 12 or 15% of your brain. Oh yes, chi is really the life and spirit of every thing living...duh..it's called energy!

In stuff like fighting, I don't really believe that it's there. When adrenaline is released into the body, that's when a noticeable increase in senses, strength and overall physical ability seem to rise.

I mean, I believe there is a certain physical energy, but it's all just science once broken down. (e.g when you feel like you can't fight anymore because you're so worn out - there's scientific basis behind that but you call it 'energy' overall).

Stuff like forming energy balls in your hands.. moving stuff, I don't really believe in. The part about humans only using a certain percentage of their brains is true, but the part that supposedly controls things like psychic ability (the lobe at the front of your brain I think), is inactive.

This could of been able to turn in a serious topic actually if you would of put some thought into it and hadn't put that stuff at the bottom I would of bothered to type a really long post. But oh well.

Yeah I believe in Chi/Ki, life force, whatever you want to call it.
And no I haven't done anything like what you said, well the laying in the bed part.

There is no possible way for Ki/chi to exist. A person tapping into his innner strength is just when he needs to and his brain pullls it out of him. Like when I am enraged, my strength more than triples. I can't exert that force on purpose, nor most or nearly all of any time. Our bodeis have amazing potential, we just can't use it for just anything. An example would be a normal man lifting a car. He wouldn't be able to do it on his own. But lets say his daughter is stuck under the car. He probably could lift the car enough for her to get out. All potentail.

Same with speed and agility. Ever almost fallen into a pool with an expensive shirt/shoes on that would get ruined? Probably. Thing is that you probably pulled of cat-like acrobatics and reflexes to prevent yourself from falling. Could you do that normally? No. Could you do it if you ever need to? No. Could you do that if you ever HAD to? Yep!

Besides, we use 30% of our brain just for vision. Nothing else. If we used any less, our vision would be a lot more poor, like the vision of a dog or a cat, except not able to see in all the light. Then we use a large some just for balence and motion, and just for memory. Then another section for thought and reasoning. And another part for smell and taste. Yet again another part for touch and hearing. That whole 10% has been disproven, because you would be a raddish if we used that much of our brain. We actually use about 85%-90% of our brain, and the rest is just incase we damage parts, and parts get old and need some more repair. That and we constantly use a good some of our brain. If a piece is damaged, that other 15% comes into use. If you damage something outside, like you lose all of your hearing, that part that was for hearing goes and helps other parts.

Did you actually read what I said? lol.

Adrenaline. It's a chemical released by our bodies when our brains pick up on the fact that we're in a not-so-normal situation. You said yourself, people have been known to lift cars off the floor (by a few wheels, but it's still amounting to around 750kg) when they're in desperate need to.

Adrenaline is like a drug - it gives your body a massive boost when it most needs it and expends most of your energy in one big burst.

I believe ki/chi does exist. Was science able to prove that it doesn't? It could be in a different form to one person compared to another. People are different so some might have tremendous amount of chi and some could have so little leftover to daily activities, that it seems that chi doesn't exist in he or she at all.

That's my opinion anyway.

In a way i do believe it exists i mean, the whole brain thing that is a FACT, so yeah. Spontanious Human Combustion i think may be a sign of Ki/Chi or whatever, maybe the body taps into Ki but is overpowered by Ki becuase it is such an unknown substance and doesnt know how to stop so it over powers the body and KABLAM! you up in flames. Maybe i am thinking to much into this but i do believe...nice thread ;).

I think Chi/ki is possible. I'm really open minded to alot of disciplines and magickal paths. I belive many things are possible that science cannot explain, such as ki. I can feel the erngy flwoing through me, and I can somewhat concnetrate it, put ym expertise in that field is ym senses...I am able to sense alot of diffrent type sof thigns, even going so far as to pick up emotions and thoughts at times.

Well, I think that this Ki/Chi is something that is just another explanation/word for what might already exist.

I mean, I read an article in the Reader's Digest about monks in Tibet who get into very deep prayer. Doctors studied their brain activity when they were in prayer and found that very deep prayer induced a state of semi-hypnosis, which brought about an increased chemical activity in certain portions of the brain (the portions that govern perception and whatnot). And so, there is the theory that when people are in a very deep state of prayer or meditation, they can simply be very relaxed...or they can even hallucinate imgery or sounds.

So, I think this might be something similar. I can't say I've experienced something exactly like this, but I definitely know that different levels of stress/relief affect my perception on the world around me.

Hmmm... maybe.

Spontaneous combustion was an interesting example. So are cases of telekinesis, extra sensory perception, etc. Something non-physical seems to cause those things. Maybe we all have the potential, but don't even begin to know how to utilize or control it.

I was doing this meditation for awhile, from ages 18 to 21 or so, where you visualize the merkaba. During the beginning of it, you use a certain method to visualize negative energy leaving your body -- kind of like a flushing. Then, for the second part, you visualize the prana (which is basically ki) that supposedly runs through the brain and spinal column at all times, only building up insted of just passing through. There's a lot more to it, and I won't go into detail, but I do know that I always felt the negative emotions or heaviness leaving me during the first part, and felt remarkably revitalized by the end of the second.

The interesting but logical thing is, you're supposed to do it pretty often, like once a day, because the built up energy (prana/ki) supposedly gets used up, and everyday stress attracts negativity, bringing on the need to flush it out. This is vaguely similar, I think, to the concept of anime characters "powering up."

I'm not saying you can build up ki and release it to cause damage or anything. This is just part of my personal experience and reactions, which I could interpret in all kinds of ways. This is merely one way I could choose to interpret it, and neither scientific nor evidentiary at all.

I don't know what's real and what's not these days. For all I know the world we live in might not exist. So as you can see i'm pretty open minded about everything. Someone already said that we don't use very much of our brain. That being said, the rest of our brain has to be for something. So I'll keep it at "maybe". I don't have any arguments for either side really.

Spontanious Human Combustion is caused when the electrical wiring in your body misfires so severally and for such a time that it catches the ignightable fat in your body on fire. This soon spread througout your body through you fat, and then eventually goes out do to lack of oxygen.

Crimson Spider, I know for a fact there will never be enough natural electricity in the normal human body for any kind of "crosswiring" to happen.

Besides, there is absolutely nothing in the body that can be assimilated to electric wiring (If I recall correctly, nerves doesn't actually carry electricity in any way. If it was the case, our reflexes would be MUCH more quicker.)

I don't know, Crimson. In almost all reported SHC cases, the victim's body is nothing but a pile of ash and a foot or something. :shifty: And did you know that it takes a very high temperature (I think at least a thousand degrees Fahrenheit) to turn the human body into ash? Plus, as mentioned before, the human body can't really 'crosswire', as nerves aren't really like electrical wires.

Quote: "There is no possible way for Ki/chi to exist. A person tapping into his inner strength is just when he needs to and his brain pullls it out of him. " -That is how you would gather/summon ki (however you wish to put it); concentrating. And besides that, I don't think that ki could be just adrenaline, as I have felt an adrenaline rush before, and there is a definite difference. Adrenaline just boosts your confidence and senses only when you ABSOLUTELY need it. Ki, however, can be gathered at any time with enough discipline and practice. If you've seen Bulletproof Monk, you'll get it. (I haven't seen it yet, though, but the trailer pretty much sums it up.)

PS: Kamehameha! *kablazmo!!!* ^^x;

Yeah, I think it's real. I've been messing with it for a while... I usually end up hurting myself, haha. I haven't ever seen it, but I've definitely felt it... It's the kind of thing that can give you cramps and headaches and stuff.

I'm sure someone who's been messing with it longer than I have can do more with it... I'm getting there ^-^

Like most said, there is a possibility that Chi/Ki could exist. So many cultures believe in some kind of mystical life-energy that it would be almost impossible to disprove the idea. However, on the subject of potential, I have a much more interesting answer.

I'm certain everyone here has experienced deja vu, the sensation that you've experienced an event before while experiencing it now. I can recall, and have recalled on several occasions, dreaming that an event will happen, and then remembering when it does. It is my belief that our brain may posses a mild form of procognition, the ability to know what happens before it happens. Most people merely experience it in the form of dreams that surface as the feeling of deja vu. However, perhaps some people who can predict events and conciously remember them are people who have trained themselves to the extent that awake the hidden potential to see the future.

That's just a thought, a potential reality.

Well, there have been enough reliable accounts of people doing really really strange stuff to suggest that some sort of channelable "life force" exists. It might be some mental manipulation of our bioelectric fields for all I know (wee I just made that up! Time to create another RPG universe...). But to dismiss it as rubbish would mean that either it's perfectly normal to run at a large sword full-speed and end up bending it 90% with your fat stomach, or that there are numerous people out there more talented at illusions than any stage magician to ever exist.

And that's not even mentioning all of the alternative medicine practices that revolve around people mentally healing physical ailments and such. Some of which I have been witness to.

I also know some people who can make others ill just by touching them or being around them. It sounds like total BS, but folks who have been told by "chi masters" to have weak body energy seem to be adversely affected (headaches, nausea, fever) by this one dumb bastard who has taken many classes in harnessing this energy but has apparently fallen to the "dark side" of things. He has no effect on me, though, because I think he's a freaking retard and because I apparently have a very strong energy (which may be from practicing martial arts for 14 years).
