Syk3
Just curious, how many of you have gotten into car crashes at some point in your life, or have had an interesting experience while driving? This question primarily goes out to those who drive and were at the wheel when the incident occured, but others who have stories may share as well. For the drivers, what has the car crash/experience taught you about driving, and what would you now do differently? I have been lucky enough to have never been into a car crash, but I'm thinking about it a lot more since I am just beginning to drive. Hopefully I along with others can learn from your experience before we get on the road and make the same mistake. :) I might have forgotten to mention a little tidbit about how I have to share a driving story in Drivers Ed tonight and I am coming up empty on this. o_O Enjoy!
Queen Asuka
Well, I was in a wreck, but I wasn't driving. Our Dear Anna was and she ran a stopsign while we were going back to her house to get some church clothes really early in the morning. A white truck hit us on my side. All we got were some really big bruises and a totaled red brand new Chevy S-10 and lots of crying, but I also got Angel my kitten because my mommy said I needed something to comfort me. It may not sound that big, but I think that traumatized me because I get so nervous when riding with other people unless I ride with them all the time.
XeEmO
I havn't been in one personally but while driving with a friend of mine i've come close to it. I wasn't driving but my friend constantly fools around while driving and does stupid stuff. For example he goes all over the road for fun, he speeds, he sees how long he can go without touching the wheel, and he even closes his eyes sometimes. I probably shouldn't drive with him because i'm sure he'll get into some sort of wreck sooner or later. I saw a car crash while I was walking along one day. I was with some friends and all 3 of us were stairing at the car when it happened. One car reer ended another and it smashed up pretty much the entire front of the car that ran into the other one, but the back of the car it ran into didn't seem so bad. Shinmaru
Well, technically I was a part of this. My mom was driving her car home while she was about six months pregnant with me. Some guy who had stolen a car barreled out of nowhere and crashed into my mom's car. Luckily, my mom survived, and I also survived (duh, or else I wouldn't be writing this lol). The worst part is that my mom couldn't press charges or anything since the guy stole the car from some other family or some other BS.
pbfrontmanvdp
Man i hate how they have speed limits. Im sorry i like to drive fast so i can get more sleep till i have to go to work. So i was doing 82 in a 40 and it wasnt like i was going to be late or anything like that and of course a cop was around when i was doing this. He pulled me over, gave me a ticket and so now i have to be more careful when im driving. Now since i have to be more careful and cautious when im driving wouldnt this lead to being more accident prone. Im constantly have to moniter my speed so i dont go over and using the cruise control sucks. I just hate speed limits i wish they never had them lol. Of course to most people this probably sound like BS and you probably think im crazy but i just dont like them im sry.
Delian
I've never been in a car crash (thank God). I'm a pretty alert driver. I'm highly aware of my surroundings on the road. I refuse to get in a car if I don't trust that person's driving. Although I once saw this terrible crash near my area. A van tried to overtake a 4 wheel drive while it was turning and it hit it's rear causing the 4 wheel drive to spin out of control, wind itself around a traffic light pole and crash a front yard fence. Lucky there was noone in the back seat, otherwise they would have been crushed. Don't know what happened to the driver. Worse thing about it was that the van sped off. RPGchick
i wasnt involved in this accident, but it is kind of freaky. this guy that lived on my grandmas block had just bought a brand new pick up truck that he had been wanting for a while. on the first week he had the truck, he was going to town. the neighbor hood was just off the mainroad so he had to make a turn to get out of the neighborhood. on the curb, there has been this tree that has been there since my mom was little. it was perfectly healthy. all of the leaves were green, and it was so huge, i couldnt fit my arms around it. when the man made the turn, the tree fell right on the cabin of the truck and killed him. the truck was flattened like a pancake. i think it is kinda weird that at the exact moment that the man was under the seemingly healthy tree, it fell, right on the cabin. it gives me the creeps sometimes when i drive down roads with trees on both sides now... Mitch
I was making a left turn, I was in the middle of the intersection, and the light was yellow. On the street which I was supposed to yield from, there were cars pilled all over the left and right lane, and the middle, there was nothing. I went to make the turn, and, out of nowhere, the car came, I hit it on the side, my car hitting it frontward. I didn't do too much damage to my car or the lady's, either. But hers was definitely worse, it was from the passenger door, and onward. Awhile ago, I can remember, I had a dream about the exact same thing almost. I was at the same intersection. My friend was in the car this time though, and I crashed right into a pole that time. I can't remember anything else, though. I never really remember much about my dreams..I remember, maybe, the people in them, and a few things elsewise. I remember that day still..it was snowing. I think. And there was snow on the ground. Right after it happened, I pulled to the side of the road, and walked over to the person's car. They were nice about it, or, I mean, she. It was just a mother and her son. She told me to "go over to the bank, meet there," so that's what I did. When I got there, she called the cops, we exchanged phone numbers, and I tried to find my registration and insurance card. I couldn't find it. So I went out into the cold, pretty cold then, and asked her to let me use her cell phone. I guess I was pretty upset, and when I only got the answering machine at my house, I was even more upset. I couldn't find my registration or insurance card. Then the cop came, gave me a 50$ failure to yield ticket. I was blamed for the crash, and I guess it was my fault; but I hadn't seen her coming. That's the way it is with most crashes. Eventually, my Dad came, and he found what I'd been looking for, so I didn't have to take this form to fill in info on the crash. The cop was pretty heartless about everything he said to me, looking at me like I was stupid, saying, "Don't you know what it means to yield." I did, I did. When my Dad came, I was trying to explain to the cop that it just happened. I was trying to make it so he didn't think I was so stupid. My Dad thought that I was arguining with the cop, which I wasn't. I was simply trying to cope with what had happened in my mind. I remember that, that day, when I left school, I went down to my brother's school to pick him up. And I'd forgotten that I was supposed to not pick him up. So I went to that left turn, and here I am. It was meant to happen, I suppose. I had only had my license for about a week, too. Ever since I've really hated driving, and have driven probably more consciously. Also, one time, I was backing out of the Mini Mart by my house. That was back when I only had my permit, and my Mom was in the car. As I backed out, the engine died. And I tried to react, but I hit a pole. There was no damage though, but the way my mom blew up from it really scared me from driving as well. I couldn't help it, I didn't know that the car was going to do that. There have been numerous other close calls to wrecks. One time a van pulled and parked as I was trying to exit, and as I went into the turn, it stopped there. And I was surrounded, and had to squeeze from the van. My Mom got all ansy, and I nearly hit the damned van. Another time I was by a police car, nearly hit it then. Another time I was making a right turn, and I nearly hit an oncoming car. Basically, I must have some style driving. I'm still standing lol.
Juu
Well, I've been in two, and both were when my mom was driving. x.x;; During the first one, I was six at the time, and we were crossing an intersection, while it had just turned green light for us. Then, this car just suddenly starts moving across, and rams into the side I was sitting in. After that, the back of the other car slams into the front of our car. It turns around and hits us one more time. Then, it drove off. My mom was sobbing, because it wasn't even our car. We were actually just borrowing her friend's car, so we could go to this meeting at chruch. I kept blinking my eyes and wondering whether or not I was dead, because the air bags had exploded. My mom got her back injured, and I came out without a scratch, because I just did what we were told to do during a tornado earlier that day at school. xx; (Duck your head to your knees). The second time... we just got hit by a car in a small street. (On my side again. - .-). But there were huge palm trees right smack around the curb, so he couldn't see us while he was crossing.
Baron Samedi
i have been in 1 and kinda involved in a second one. in the first one, my mum and i were driving up to Perth and outside of some stupid little blink-and-you-miss-it town, my mum reached over to get the drink- the lip between the road and the gravel was too high and our tire got stuck no it. my mum pulled he wheel, but on the other side there was a huge line of traffic. so we went over/down this huge embankment (apparently we were lucky not to nosedive the car) under the first few wires on this fence, and missed the only tree in this paddock by about 1m. we burst 3 tires but weren't hurt. my mum had a bruise on her thigh and thats it. the second incident- well i was at a friends place, and his driveway is in town- we were taking turns on the bike- riding out, doing a uturn on the road and coming back down to do a skid. but when i went out, there was a car coming up the road. i ran into the front wheel of it. i was very lucky that i hadnt left a few seconds earlier otherwise i would of been under the car. i wasnt hurt and neither was the bike. pretty scary though. a few seconds between me and serious injury. yikes. Outlaw
Well, i've never been in an accident myself. However, I have had an interesting experiance in my car. Well, more specificly my dad's car. My dad recently got a brand new BMW X5, the BMW SAV. I was driving yo a friend shouse and had borrowed my dad's car, and went on a very hilly road. Well, I could build it up allot, but lets just say 80 mph + around a foot of air = allot of fun
Transtic Nerve
i just recently rear ended someone (and didn't get a ticket! WOOT!) and I had $3,000 of damage to my beautiful car. But I payed 500 bucks, got it fixed, no ticket, no money to the other guy (who was liek UBER nice) for the little bumper cover damage to his car. I was just really pissed because... I love my car, and I hurt it... it's like breaking an arm of your child lol. I yelled the F word as soon as I hit the guy, then I asked if he was ok... thenI cried cause my car was hurt. Him was bleeding. Never been pulled over though. Never a ticket... ::knocks on wood:: I hate old people who drive, I hate people who drive slow. I hate people who drive like idiots too. Some peopel are just prone to accidents. i once knew a girls that totalled her cars 4 times before she graduated high school. People like that shouldn't be allowed to drive. And I'm sorry to all of you out there, women drive worse than men. They might not drive faster, but gah! For God's sake, stay of the damn phone! Turn on your signal, and pay some attention! Avatarofkaine
Ive been in one accident worth mentioning, setting first, private property, approx 12 acres, old beat up yellow cortina, and a track that circles some motorbike jumps- i think you may know where this is leading and i swear every word is true. My mate and i had been being general hoons and chasing rabbits across his acerage, me leaning out the window and yelling like a yobbo. As far as things go both me and my mae are quite reasonable drivers and we were pretty safe about not crashing in to anything. The problem occured when our lets say, sobriety challenged fathers decided they could and would outdo our yahooing and handbrake turns, of course being fathers and being drunk, they couldnt run the same course as we were and had to weave through the dirt mounds that serve as motorbike jumps. I was in the back seat with my mate, my dad was driving and his dad was in the passenger seat. Things werent going to bad untill my dad held the handbrake on a little to long and spun the car 90 degrees leaving us lined up with the first jump, and being drunk, he didnt think to use the brake and stop or anything silly like that, he just kept going, up over the jump,,,, and nose first into the next one, bringing us to a rather abrupt and dusty halt, noone was injured more than seat belt bruises, supposedly they kill as many as they save, and as a testimant to the duribility of an old cortina all we had to do was stomp the bonnet straight again and pull a dint out of the front roadscraper/bumper thingy. So thats my car crash experience. If you could understand my rambling anyway.

NorykoAngelcry
Well. . I just want to say that wether or not you think I am a bad driver after this post, don't hold it against me, kk?~ Alright, here we go: First Wreck - My very first vehicle was a full size GMC cargo van. It was the family car, and it got handed down from brother to brother till it got to me. Now, technically it really wasn't my car, it was just the starter vehicle that my parents 'lent' to each of the children. Ok then, one day after school, I was giving a ride to someone that lived the opposite way from my house. I wasn't really supposed to be doing this, but I figured, no harm no foul. Well, I dropper her off, and was coming back with my neighbor Will. We were talking back and forth about school, and I was really more focused on the conversation then on the road. He was the one that noticed the cars at a dead stop in front of us. I looked up in time to see that I couldn't go anywhere. There was oncoming traffic in the lane to the left, and where there should have been a curb, was a foot and a half drop of. I probably would have rolled the van. Instead, I just slammed on the brakes, and let it carry me. I ended up hitting the bumper of the car in front of me, which hit the bumper of the car in front of them, which hit the bumper of the car in front of them, which in turn, ended up hitting the car in front of them. -_- Needless to say, I hit 4 cars with my first wreck. It wasn't cool, but after time, it worked itself out, and I got on. Months down the road, after it was repaired, I got grounded for some reason, and my parents ended up using the van for a few weeks. The very first day I got it back, I ended up driving to Nashville with a bunch of friends, and on the way back, the car just died on me. It turned out that it was out of oil. . I knew nothing about cars except how to turn them on. This was a bad learning experience. Second Wreck - Chevy station wagon. I was coming to my high school from Home Depot. My dad and mom spent a lot of time working with the band, and this particular day, my dad needed some material. Anyways, I was coming back, and rounded a corner going pretty fast. I didn't even see the 50 cars stopped in front of me. Well. . hit the brakes, but to no avail. I ended up hitting five cars this time. (No, I was not going for any sort of record here) We ended up just scrapping the car. Third Wreck - Ok, this was my third car, a Pontiac Grand Am. Now, I didn't wreck this car, but I felt like putting it up there. My brother actually got it into a wreck. The front bumper and hood were pretty banged up. To try and save money, he decided to repair it himself. The only problem was that he got parts for a different year. He got parts for a 1988 Grand Am, and I owned a 1996 Grand Am. The parts were colored different, and the whole car just looked trashy. I drove it until I got my next car. Fourth Wreck - I got a very nice car, an Oldsmobile Achieva. It was a very sporty car, and it drove great. At that time, I drove to a warehouse job 30 - 45 minutes away from where I lived. To me, that was quite a drive. I usually left the last minute possible, and sped the whole way to work. This wreaked havoc on my brakes, and ended up killing my rotors(?). . It ended up costing $1,000 to fix just the front breaks (and rotors). At that much of a cost, we decided to just leave it at that. The back tires needed something done too. . not sure if it was rotors on them or not (I am not a car person). Well, I was working at the time, and was asked to go get some copies for some store flyers. I went on my lunch so I could kill some more time and hang out with some friends at the mall. It had been raining all day, and it was very cold outside -- yup. . ice -- I was rounding this pretty curvy part of the mall road, and noticed that my back tires were slipping out from under me *sigh* I swung around and hit a tree. My airbag deployed, and as a result, the car was deemed totalled (too much money to replace the airbag of that car's year). Well. . that was fun. I am now on my fifth car, which I am taking great care in driving it carefully. It would be my luck though that the one car that I don't wreck finds a way to die on me. The timing belt got loose, and the car died on me one day getting off of work. My dad decided to work on it himself instead of taking it in to get repaired. I helped him, and in turn got my car back with a lot more knowledge of cars as a result. It drives pretty good, though I still have a problem with driving too fast. I know it will just be a matter of time before I make a mistake with this car and get it into a wreck. I just hope it is after I become a $6.4 billionare, and this is my 'go-kart' car ^_^ lol. Anyways, that's my story, thanks for listening. By the way, I am 22 - and if you weren't paying attention, I am on my fifth car in six years. Not too shabby, guess I need to save and buy a real car so I have something to be proud in and not wreck it? We'll see =)
Heaven's Cloud
Noryko, you remind me of?well me. I have had more car problems during the seven years that I have been driving than most have in a lifetime. My first accident occurred before I even had a driver?s license. I was fifteen, had just received my learner?s permit, and I was practicing reversing in and out of my driveway. My driveway is shaped like a T and there is a basketball goal where the lines intersect?I am sure you can see where this is going?there is now a different basketball goal in my driveway. Luckily the car escaped unscathed. Lesson Learned: If you hit something, don?t get nervous and jam your foot down on the accelerator. My second accident occurred driving to school the day after an ice storm. I was sixteen at the time and driving my first car, ?The Grey Ghost? a huge old, grey Oldsmobile, when I slid on some ice and rear ended the car in front of me (an even older grey Olds) traveling at maybe 3mph. Besides a small dent in my car, neither automobile was injured. The two passengers of the struck vehicle were another story, however, were another story. When the ambulances arrived they both acted as if they were the sole survivors of a nuclear holocaust. Despite being issued a clean bill of health, the two injured gentlemen wanted to file a suit with my insurance company. I was lucky, however, the suit was settled for $100 when the two men were arrested the following day on minor drug charges and needed bail money. A week later the grey ghost died of heart failure (ie: transmission failure) and was donated to the Make a Wish foundation. Lesson Learned: Plant Weed on Victims of car accidents and you can get off easy The third accident I was involved in was a single car accident. I was following an old lady up a very large hill (maybe a little too closely, but she was driving so slowly) in my Mercur Scorpio, the nicest looking car I have ever owned (though it had well over 200,000 miles when I purchased it), when the lady began to make a left hand turn. I say began, because she never finished the turn, she came to a dead stop in the middle of the road, and sat there, rummaging through her glove compartment. Being a seventeen year old boy, with all of the patience of a fruit fly, I drove around her, maneuvering about three feet of my car through the six inch thick shrubbery that can often be found along roads in the south east. Unknown to me, a fire hydrant was deviously buried and then covered by the shrubbery. The top of the hydrant was five inches above the ground; just enough to catch my chassis and rip open the side of my car. The estimate to fix my car was $3,500, since I bought the car for $500; I decided I was better off donating it to the Make a Wish Foundation. Lesson Learned: don?t take low riding cars off road, fire hydrants could be lurking anywhere! Intermission: DUI?most of you know that I had a DUI?lesson if you are underage, don?t drink and drive?no matter how little you drank Finale: When I finally got my license back I bought another Oldsmobile, a big blue whale of a car. One day I was driving it and a lady hit me head on, totaling my massive car?I was overjoyed that the accident was not my fault. My car?s remains were donated to the Make a Wish foundation. I then received my third Olds, a hand me down from my Grandmother, it lasted one year before it passed away due to congestive heart failure?the engine died. It was donated to the Make a Wish Foundation. I am now on my fifth car, a nice little Saturn sports coupe?the greatest lesson that I learned from all of my driving experience is this: If you are a child with a terminal disease and your final wish is to receive a beat up old Oldsmobile, then I am making your dream come true

The make a wish foundation restores damaged cars and gives them to families that have sick children and cannot afford transportation. Although it is a good cause, I honestly only donated the cars to get rid of them...I didn't know of any other place that would tow away those cars for free... EDIT: By donating the car, I am allowed to write its full blue book value off of my taxes...so I am better off donating old, wrecked cars, then selling them for parts...especially since you have to pay for a car to be scrapped...

There amazing and its not that expensive (if you want to know how much the card is PM me i dont know what the exact number is at the moment), but they were tow you basically anywhere, anytime, for free. I love it but what you did was somewhat even better, but now since your on ur fifth car i would recommend possibly this time just towing and and selling the parts that are in good use if you ever get in an accident again. -Marc-
Terpischore
I wasn't actually involved in this car accident, but it was VERY close to us...if we had just left my ballet stuido a few seconds later, we would have been involved. SO - I didn't see the first part of it, beacuse i was laying on my back in the back seat staring out the window looking at clouds..seeing what they formed. Until I heard screeching and my sister going "OH MY GOD" and looking really scared. So i sat up and looked behind me and I see the bottom of a car sliding the opposite direction, the one like right behind us. It turned out that some car was on the other side of the street wanting to turn into our street, but another car that was on a stree that connected to the street going the opposite way had the same idea..so they crashed into each other and one made the other go on it's side and slide...it was scary. QueenBee
Ok I have an interesting story. Well I was driving to school like a year ago and the road was wet and slippery, and I should have known better than to have been changing my CD in my car stero but ya know stuff happens. anyway my tires locked and I slid to the other side of the road and hit small crabapple tree. I mean I took tis thing out it was pulled out of the ground and my car was on top of it. The air bag came out and I had burns on my neck and had to have stitches in my chin but I recovered, and thankfully no one was in the car with me at the time. So the moral of the story kids pay attention while driving.
GhostofSalvtore
I was in one bout a year ago, it wasn't anything major, just a lil bump here and there, but it was just funny what happened afterwards. Well what happened was we were crossin an intersection, it was ourturn to go and such, and this lady just hit us right in the middle of the intersection. Well afterwards we both parked in a nearby parking lot to see the damage and to exchange information. Well the lady for some reason wouldn't give us her information. And my dad was acting all cool, calm, and collected about it and just asked her politely and talked to her why he needed her info. She kept yelling and screaming at my dad because she didn't think she had to. Well she never gave it and we had to call a cop to make her give us the info. In the end she did give it to us, but it was just an interesting experience..........to me
Shaun
Well I was in a wreck when I was 17. I drove a '93 Ford Probe. It was my first car. I was driving to school as per usual. It had rained all night before, and then frozen over the night. I was going about 40-45 around a curve, and my anti-lock brakes failed and locked up, and I slid straight into a guardrail. I remember hearing the crash, and seeing the hood crumble. I remember a short silence after that, and thinking I was alive. But then the airbag went off. The explosion of it threw my arm back and burnt and bruised it, and some shards cut the left side of my face. The airbag itself hit me under the chin, and knocked my jaws together, breaking almost all of my front teeth, and tearing the skin off my throat. I had a concusion and was under a 24 hour watch. I'll never be able to grow any kind of facial hair because of the scars, and my teeth are now filed off, and coated in plastic. I still have visible cracks in a couple of them. So yeah, that was no fun.
Defcon5
Traffic going south in the first two lanes and Traffic going north in the last two. Brilliant me, for some unknown reason, I went left from the right turn lane and pulled across all three lanes of traffic. If I said my mom was pissed it would be an understatement. But I wasn't even close to being hit so that's good. I think. | | | | |-I was in this lane | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
