Well, I am a huge fan of System of A Down. Here is my story.

Okay, I first heard of System of A Down by there one song "Chop Suey".
Before I knew SOAD had also had a song called "Sugar" that I was quite very fond of. I never knew who sung it, I always thought KoRn had sung "Sugar" for some reason. I was very gullable. SoOoOoO...I bought the C.D. Toxicity and listen to just one song "Chop Suey" Pretty soon I knew the whole c.d and sung nothing but. Christmas of 2001 I bought the first SOAD c.d. And I aslo learned that whole c.d and that's when I discovered SOAD had sung "Sugar". Well, anyway, If you are a System Of A Down fan, tell me your story.

I've always hated the acronym "SOAD". I know the band even uses it, but it bothers me heh. It makes me think of SOAP every time I see it. I just call them System, and leave it at that.

I don't have a story. I don't even remember how I got their stuff any longer, for the most part. A friend of mine told me about them years back, so when I saw their disc on the shelves I picked it up.

Their self-titled CD was good, but I think Toxicity really was a big jump... especially considering there wasn't all that much time between the two.

I know a lot of people dislike them for various reasons (I expect TN to jump in eventually lol :)), but I don't think it's sometimes obvious how talented they are. Some of those guitar parts are just really hard to play. Roulette is a good example, and the fact that its played so well and effortlessly really says a lot, I think. It sounds a hell of a lot more simple than it is, and I think that goes for basically all aspects of the band.

They're just fun to listen to, and the songs are simple... yet somehow still well written. It's almost Pixies-like in that sense. I like them heh.

Not a big fan... But I listen to it sometimes... Also, the first songs I've heard by them were Chop Suey! and Aerials... Although one of my favorites is Deer Dance. I only have their Toxicity CD.
The guitars aren't really something much... Like, they only have some simple guitar parts... I'm more into heavy full of guitar solos band... That is one of the various reasons why I was sooooo disapointed at Metallica's St.Anger album -_-

I'm a pretty big System of a Down fan. Unfortunately, I was one of those late comers who didn't hear about them until I saw their video on MTV (this way back in the day when MTV actually showed videos lol). For some reason, Chop Suey! has always annoyed me, but I still enjoy the song. They're really very talented and they fool you into thinking that all of their sounds are very simple, but they aren't (I sure wouldn't be able to play some of the stuff they play without a lot of practice). My favorite songs of there's are Jet Pilot because it just goes real fast and I like the sound and Forests because for some reason, I just can't stop listening to the song. It has some crazy spell-binding effect on me. Also, all that Armenian (I assume it's Armenian because three out of the four band members are Armenian) music at the end of Aerials is pretty calming to listen to as well.

Lol, same here. At first, I thought the topic said, 'System of a down aka SOAP'. >>;;;

I've only heard four of their songs, but I love them. 'Tosicity' and 'Chop Suey' are my favorites, though I really like the music video for 'Boom!'. :bluesweat

Though I've been having a really hard time downloading 'Toxicity'. It just won't download for me. - .-;

Edit: Toxicity. I knew it didn't sound right...

Just for the record whenever I see someone type "SOAD" I think of soap as well. I wasn't ever a huge fan untill I saw them live with Slipknot. That's when I started to listen to them a lot. I recently bought "Steal This Album" for a friend. I thought it was pretty good but there first 2 album's were better in my opinion. I didn't really like the name of there 3rd one though. A rap group called "The Coup" had a cd with the same name that went out of print. They have a newer version of it though called "Steal This Double Album".

SOAP is actually a band too. Sons Of All Pussies. Look it up if you don't believe me.

But yeah, System of a Down sucks, but you already knew i was gonna say that. And if you see them as anything talented or anything worth listening to, you have terrible tastes and should never go into anything related to using your imagination or you sense of aesthetics for a career. You'll fail

TN, I'd love to see you post a thread about your "great" Japanese bands. See if they even could stand up to System, or Led Zeppelin for that matter, which is probably my favorite band, and has been one of the main voices and turns in rock. And even then, a lot of bands, most likely including your great Japanese bands were in turn influenced by American bands. So to hate the music that inspired and, in the core, is the music that you like and listen to is the be a hypocrite.

Not to say that Japanese music isn't good, I just haven't listened to any. I'm sure some of it has to be good, considering.

TN, I'm wondering if you've even listened extensively to System? Because it's not right to base a band on a few songs, or just a few stupid reasons.

2 Fast 2 Furious, on the other hand...now that's crap. Utter crap. System could shake its legs and its wheels and churn it to butter.

As for System...they're amazing. Their singer's voice is just amazing and creepy...they have a good drummer, and a good guitar player. A lot of their songs are so simple yet so very, very complex. I love that. And I like how they're just so brilliantly smart with every song, and each song doesn't sound exactly the same as the other.

I'd say I like their first CD a bit better than their second. I don't know why, but to me, their first CD is a lot more loud, and it's just...not like Toxicity sounds in some ways. Spiders is probably one of my favorite songs of theirs, I don't know, it's just so awesome. I also like Suggestions, War?, Soil....heck, pretty much every song from their self-titled first album.

Their second CD is also pretty amazing too. I especially like Forest, Aerials, Chop Suey!, and mostly the whole record too lol.

Several of them would rip Zepplin's music apart in tiny peices and then pee on them, But Zepplin could equally do the same to them as well. But I don't post topics on them because I don't like to sit here and brag about Japanese music in my own thread. And to make it clear, I never mentioned Japanese music lol. Except SOAP, but that was a refrence to what Sem said. I only mentioned System of a Clown sucks a$s. They suck compared to most American bands I hear, they suck compared to most Japanese bands I hear. I'm not comparing them simply to Japanese bands, I'm comparing them to everything. I'm not sayign Japanese music is better, I'm simply saying System of a Down lacks anything remotely associated with talent, skill, or music.

Yes, many if not all Japanese music has been influenced by American music, but System of a Down is NOT one of those influential bands, atleast not in anything popular there.

God yes. They play them on the radio here all the time, my best friends all like them so much. They purposefully torture me by playing that garbage when I'm with them. They know how much i hate them. I ever BOUGHT "Steal The Album" for my best friend's birthday. I had to keep it in my house! Needless to say I almost died.
As for System...they're amazing. Their singer's voice is just amazing and creepy

Did you mean to say "crappy" and not "creepy".... because it's the most horrid voice I've ever heard in music. Absolutely disgusting. He has no talent. He doesn't sing, he talks loudly and he talks like crap too. How can you honestly say he has any singing ability? No offense, but you must be tone deaf if you do.
And I like how they're just so brilliantly smart with every song, and each song doesn't sound exactly the same as the other.

Lol to me every song sounds the exact same. Same guitar riffs, same beat with the drums, same crappy singing voice in every damn song.

The only thing I remotely like about them is their ability to go from loud to soft in a song and have it almost unnoticable. But yeah... crap, utter crap.

But then again, thats just my opinion. If some of you like that junk then fine, but well... err... Get a hearing test or something.

Wait, just the word SOAP, or are you actually referring to the amazing band who go by that acronym (who TN mentioned)?

Well, I've never thought of the lead singer with a horrible voice. I like the 1st one better too because it is a lot louder and more swearing than the second one, the perfect c.d to listen to when you are angry, or want to get angry. :flaming:

Oh yeah, all those swear words always make me want to come back and listen to them again (I hope you noticed the sarcasm). No offense against you but I think swearing in music sucks, and to like music because it "has more swear words", is a very idiotic reason to like music. However, you're entitled too like things for idiotic reason, so I won't try to change your mind.

My second favorite band. I love this band so much they talk about whats going on in the world and then turn it into a song its amazing. If you really like this group alot i suggest getting the their 3rd cd as well its called "Steal This Album". Has my favorite song on their called Highway Song, its really good cause it has a little bit of a new type of rythum in some of the songs...plus half the songs on this cd were supposed to be in the 1st and 2nd cd. Well thats about it bye.

How can you say that!!! Yes a lot of his songs are when hes yelling, but just listen to Forest, Ariels, Highway Song, Toxicity, etc. He really has a good voice, but he sings mostly by yelling since its a metal/rock type of band. I would be pretty disappointed if he didnt do that i mean thats the point of why i listen to music like this it gets me pumped up for sports. But listen to the couple of songs i listed...he doesnt yell in these ones at all and his voice is good.

I was disappointed in "Steal This Album". I returned it to the store, demanding a refund- but they explained to me since I literally stole it, I couldnt get one.

They are an alright band if you just turn on a random song or two, and then listen to something else. But eventually some of their songs can begin to sound alike a bit. Every single that achieved radio play always seemed to be the stupidest choice in a single. Needles is the best song on Toxicity, and either 'War?' or 'Ddevil' are the best tracks off the first.

Yea that is true. Needles is pretty good. But if you didn't like "Steel This Album" that's too bad. I not even sure if I should buy it now *sighs and then faints*

I think SoaD is pretty talented in some respects, and some of their songs have a pretty catchy melody to them.

But generally, I don't like a lot of their "fight the power" type songs. Those songs are too preachy and factually inaccurate for me to enjoy. I just don't like the attitude that permeates those particular tracks.

On the whole though, I guess I'm pretty indifferent. That is, I don't mind one way or the other. I'm not a fan of the band -- I'd never buy their music. But by the same token, I don't actually hate them as passionately as some people do.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN...I'm kinda of a fan. The first time I heard a song of there's was when my friend wouldn't stop singing "Chop Suey." He had gotten it stuck in my head. So I kept listening to their music, I'm not a huge fan. But I still like their music, and so I don't hate them but I'm not their biggest fan.

I love System. I first heard them back in the days of "Sugar" and "Spiders". I forgot about them until they released "Chop Seuy" and I immedietly bought their CD. I didn't have enough money to buy the self titled one so my friend was nice enough to burn me a copy. I am still to poor to buy Steal This Album, although I have heard like every song on it 30 times. I will get it eventually, but until then I will listen to the 2 I have.
