Admiting your problem is the first step...

I can't quite bring myself to tell anyone I know off the computer yet, so I thought I would get some advice and support from the wonderful people of Ob.

About two months ago I got high with a few friends before a concert. It felt damn good. I'm not going to lie about that. The concert was probably less fun than I remember. But I wish I had said no.

Now it's two months later. I've spent probably a good 180 US dollars on marijuana. I have a lot in my room right now and can barely stop myself from smoking it whenever I have the chance.

After about the first month, I began to see some symptoms of addiction. I was thinking about being high a lot of the time. My hands were shaking a little and I was slower to respond.

Now my hands shake a lot. I can't stop thinking about being high and my responce time has dropped very much.

I want to quit. I will quit. But I'm not sure how.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experiances that could help me?

Well first off...don't buy anymore! Find something else to spend ur money on so that you won't have it to spend on pot. Also...throw the pot you have out! Every last bit of it!! And remember...doing pot can getcha in BIG trouble.
Take for example my sister's friend. She was trying pot for the first time outside of a Kohl's shopping center one morning b4 school in broad daylight. The Next thing she knew, she had been hand cuffed, and taken to jail. She was the first person in the history of that school who had gotten caught...it was her first time...and lots of kids at that school were potheads. She was in jail for the rest of that day, she was grounded by her parents, she was put in ISS on the last week of school, and she still has bruises from the hand cuffs to be proud of. You DON'T want this to happen to you...so quit!

They have centers for people with drug related problems or addictions and stuff like that...My best bet would be to check them out...They would probably know what to do..Or could at least give you somethin to decrease your want for it...

You're going to need someone you can contact in your area. I'd suggest a favorite teacher or something, but it is summer, and I don't know your teachers, anyway. If you do have a teacher or other adult you feel comfortable around, I'd say that would be your best bet to start out.

Whether or not you tell your parents is going to be your call. If you think it would help, by all means, go ahead--it might take some time to build up the craziness to do it, but it may be worth it.

On the other hand, if you think it wouldn't help--if all you can expect them to do is yell at you, that's not going to do much good. You want/need support and advice, not scolding. If they're going to be more angry than they are willing to help, forget it until after you've got some control of the situation.

If you want to quit something, there are people out there who will be more than willing to help you.

If you're interested, there's an online support group here.

And if you just want to talk, or whatever, you can generally find me on AIM as Stendahl405.

Actually keyblade, he said marijuana. I don't really know what to say other than you should probably tell people you know in real life about your problem. If you let your parents know about it, and you tell them about how much of a problem it is, i'm sure they'll understand. Or at least I know my parents would.

That seems really strange because I know plenty of people who are pot heads, and it isn't addictive. They aren't chained to it like you are saying. In fact, one day one of the 3 decided to quit for fear his job might find out (the stuff stays in your system for weeks). He didn't need help from any sort of clinic or other drug. He just quit! The 2nd person takes it for medical problems, and the 3rd doesn't have quite enough sense to quit.

Personally, I have been trying to cut back on beer consumption, and I found a good way to kick the craving that worms in when I am lounging lazily on my couch...I joined a 24 hour gym. If I have the urge to go party, I go to the gym and work out until I am too tired to do anything but sleep. It has helped me save a load of money...and I've put a good dent into my little belly...

Calling weed "crack" for slang is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard lol. Strange slang.

I don't think marajuna itself is as addictive as the feeling it gives off is. At least based on people I know. I don't have any medical proof for it.

I don't really know if this is of any help... but this is the story of my experiences with this stuff and why I don't do it.

My biological father died in a motorcycle accident when I was eight or nine years old. Recently, I was talking to my grandpa (my dad's dad) about my dad, and he had said something about how he was glad my he joined the armed forces because it got him off drugs.

I knew that wasn't true, because when I was younger I found a mirror with white powder on it on a shelf. I didn't know what it was at the time, but I realized it years later. The few rolled up dollar bills around didn't exactly help me think it was just sugar or anything either.

Anyway, he is reason #1 why I don't do it. I loved my dad, but I blame his death partly on his drug use and his irresponsibility.

The other reason involves weed itself. Nearly every single adult I know smokes week to some extent. I've seen them, and some are more open than others. My step father must smoke it several times a day, but at least once every few days that I notice. The smell is too unique for you to think it's something else.

Hell, the guy even grows it in the basement.

So yeah, my step father is an extreme pothead. So are most of his friends... and none of these people are those you equate with burnouts or drug users or whatever else, but they all do it.

However, they are just going in a direction I just don't want to. I want to make something of myself, I don't want to turn out like them... no matter how much I care about them. So that's my real reason not to do it. I don't want to be anything like my step father.

The other reason is that I am severely against putting stuff in my body that can have any affect on my sense of control or do some sort of damage. I won't drink, smoke, do drugs or whatever else. Hell, I won't even take medicine if I can help it.

So I guess it is different for everyone. You need to find something to replace the drug. Some sort of activity, like Heaven's Cloud. That seems to be the only thing I know of that works well for anyone. Rehab is ********.

Um, yeah it is. I'm not going to argue with you but you said crack in your post above until you edited it. After that you said that crack was slang for marijuana in your town.

Dude, crack is cocaine a class A drug, pot or weed is cannabis a class C drug and legal in some countries.

I know lots of people of smoke pot, I've tried it myself and I agree when people say it's very unusual for you to get addicted to it. However, if you're addicted to the high why don't you find something to replace this drug indiced high. Cloud has the right idea when the gym idea was mentioned. Do something that gives your body an adreneiln (sp?) high, get more active, but a punching bag or something. You can also try and wein yourself off it, take less and less each time ya know. Get a hobby.

Actually, TN...most true potheads(which I take to mean, those addicted to it) really know it's addictive. Just like most people adicted to tobacco(tobacco heads?) know cigarettes are addictive.

It's the idiots who just smoke it occasionally that think it's not addictive...which happens to be at least 50% or more of the average American high school, I'd say.

As for helping you out, I'll say what I can about breaking addictions: You have to do more than say you'll quit. You have to do more than stop buying it. You have to completely seperate yourself from any situation that even brings it up. If you're a Christian, I also suggest prayer, as that always tends to help.

It's going to take constant alertness to the fact that you can't be around it. Once you're addicted to something, you're basically addicted for life. The only way you can ever be free, is to get away from it.

To OD on pot you have to smoke so much, that you would fall asleep from carbon monoxide poisoning before you could get a tenth of a lethal dose of the actual narcotic in marijuana. I dont know the exact amount of weed but it would be thousands of cones, you couldn't do it if you tried.

As for quiting, I would, depending on how strong your willpower is, either stop cold turkey, just tell yourself no more and stick with it, I've found that works but is extreamly hard, an easier way is to wean yourself down, seeing as how chances are what you are doing is illegal, I would try and wean down quick before you get caught, try something like a "reward" system go for as long as you can without using it, reward yourself when you can't go any longer without it, and increase the time you dont use it whenever you can. That was the way that worked best for me when I needed to stop what I was doing.

You said about all you had in your life was your girlfriend and a few close friends, then be with them more, instead of smoking a joint, call your girlfriend and talk to her. Whatever works but i really do suggest you stop, quickly.

Your stuff is cheap man.
Don't the pot heads say Marijuana is NOT addictive? Yet here it seems you are craving it more and more. Hmmm
There's not chemical addiction. That's what they mean when they say that.

****. I'm sorry to hear about that. I have respect for you, so it just goes to show how everyone has their own little problems.

I'm not sure what to do about it. I know people that are on it, people I know, who are close to me are "casual smokers" of the stuff. But they don't seem to need it like you do. Late last year, they gave as a huge talk about smoking weed and the guy said that it affects each user differently. Some people can go skizophrenic of one joint, and some people need a few to even get high. It sounds like you have a different case of "having it bad".

My best advice would be to go to a rehab centre, and see what they have to say. Or even better, see your doctor.

Good luck, my friend.

Well, I'm really glad you decided to confront the issue.

But, I must say, I'm kind of relieved. Whem I was reading your other posts and worrying like hell, I expected you to reveal that you were addicted to heroin or something.

As for your hands shaking, that is entirely in your mind, unless you have an unusual allergy or something, which I never heard of.

If you don't want to do it anymore, then just don't. Weed is the easiest thing to quit. But Harry's right, for once... you're either not buying alot, or are getting some really good deals, lol.

Fixed it for you.

After some more consideration, I seriously believe you should start dealing. Smoking everyday for two months and only paying 180 dollars is good, but selling it and probably making 900% profit is even better.

But if you did seriously only buy the normal amount for 180 and think you're addicted, shame on you.

Throw the pot out. Whenever you get money waste it on anything you like like books, dvds, cds, whatever as long as you can get rid of the money fast so you don't have time to think of buying pot since you don't have money. For a while keep doing this. Once you do you can't buy pot without money. If you live with your parents I suggest you tell them you made mistakes and you want to quit and not do pot anymore. I am sure they will try to help you. With your parents helping you and you having no money to buy pot for a long time. The addiction should lower A LOT. If you need more help than your parents get some non-pot smoking friends to help you.

***REMEMBER IF YOU DON"T HAVE MONEY TO BUY POT YOU CAN"T SMOKE POT. SO WASTE ALL THE MONEY ON DVD OR WHATNOT.***

I would seriously suggest he doesn't do this until it gets to the point where he's OD'ing on crack. Weed isn't that hard of a drug to get over and it's not worth it telling his parents. I don't know what your parents are like but there's a good chance they won't just think "oh well he's atleast come to us let's not punish him and only help him."

I got a consult over the phone with a musular doctor that I know, it turns out that my shaking hands are an early stage of arthritus (sp?). Woo for me. He wants to see me to make sure, but that's what he said it sounds like. I told him about the pot and he said that there is no way that is it.

To everyone that said I got very good deals on my pot, yes I did. I know someone really well. He grows it in his basement. I'd say that he sold me a good pound over the course. And he said not to worry about the cost. Perhaps he was hoping to get me very dependant.

I was biking yesterday for a good four hours. I bought a new one too. I think I've found my alternative.

For those that suggested rehab, I'm way to proud/embarrased to go. Unless it becomes an extremely unmanageable problem I won't go.

Thank you all. I'm going to take a small leave from Ob. I plan on sorting this out with some help from friends and a few others. I plan on conquering this.
