I think Harry and Luna would be good (I'm not the keen on Cho, personally), but I'd hardly say they were 'hinted at' at the end- that was more hope for Sirius returning, I thought.

Personally, I think Ron should end up with Hermione- there is no-one else for either of them, really. Harry and Hermione would be too boring, and just doesn't seem right to my mind.
I very much doubt it, all the Ron-Hermione 'shippers would've picked up on it. The nearest thing between Hermione and either of the boys that came close to intimacy was at the end of Goblet of Fire when she kissed Harry on the cheek.

I read the book too (in about three days), and I have to say - as a speaker of a language other than English - that the text was almost amazingly easy to read. I've read the previous four in Finnish, so some of the names were a bit hard to track, but the language didn't prevent me from enjoying the book. Now to my comments:
D_M: But Hermione does kiss Ron in the book! In a friendly way, of course, but Ron's ears blush nevertheless... Teenage boys...

And was I really the only one that got irritated by Harry's angsty mood?! Sure, teenage is a good phase to let it all come out, but it was a little exaggerated.

And then to the Sirius's-death-thingy: do you really believe he's gone for good? I mean, the man fell to a dimension gate of some sort, and everybody just automatically assume he's gone? Even such intelligent characters like Dumbledore! Seriously, if Rowling would've want to delete Sirius, she probably would have made him die while covering Harry or something... Trust my word, Sirius will make a comeback!!! Though I didn't even like him very much... I'm a catperson, see? ;)

And then to Loony Lovegood: I was a bit confused why Rowling wrote her in to the story at first. She seemed to have no relevant purpose that any of the existing characters couldn't have. Then it hit me: she has to be Harry's future crush! When she gets a little older and less weirdball, then... Though I'm not sure if she will be "the one" for Harry - there's always Hermy and Ginny. But mark my words when I say that the next book says something like: "Harry saw Luna descending from the Hogwarts Express, and first he didn't recognize her. She had really changed over summer..." And blah blah blah. ;)

And Umbrige woman will perhaps return as well - not as a teacher, no way, but she might get controlled by V-V-Voldemort. (is it really that hard name to say? :smirk: )
So what do you think about my theories? *turns on Frasier-voice* I'm listening...

*sees Sage's advatar* Must not look at advatar. Is creeped out.

I agree on your Luna Lovegood idea. But your Sirius idea is wrong. Rawling stated to the general public that she killed off a major character.
Sirius
Personally, I don't agree with you there.[I see it being perfectly realistic, exaggeration and all. At that point in his life, Harry's emotional, stressed, and feeling completely locked out -- not something a fifteen year old reacts well to. Besides which, Voldemort has returned, which brings impending doom onto everyone he knows; worse, everyone he loves. The book had to be angsty after the events from last year, or the entire thing would be pointless. And yes, the anger got on my nerves after a while...but you could feel the frustration, and feeling the emotions of the character is what makes a good writer.]

Once again, I have to disagree.[It's my belief that Luna Lovegood was introduced into the story to bring a degree of realism to the character Ginny. Ginny, as you know, was featured quite heavily in the Chamber of Secrets. However, after that time, she wasn't seen in the third or fourth books. She might as well have dropped off the face of the earth. By now, Ginny needs friends, or the character -- to most people -- will seem unrealistic.]

So I have to say that I don't agree with most of your theories.

-->No, I was extremely irritated by it, too. I think that Lady Asphyxia has really good thoughts about this and I definitely agree with those points, but the angst was far too heavy and drawn out to stand. Maybe that comes from my extreme distaste for younger, angsty, bitter-at-the-world teenagers, but it personally made the book a hard read for me.

-->I also think that this book was needed as a turning point and/or plateau to the story, so maybe that was part of the reason it was so mundane. The whole fight scene at the end was pretty well written, but I skimmed more than a few parts of the book to get to the good stuff; a lot of it was boring. Plus, Umbridge bugged the hell out of me! [and everyone, I'm sure] It honestly made me just want to stop reading at times...:drunk: I just hope that the next one is better.

-->One more thing...about Neville being brought into the whole scheme of things. I thought that it was really very interesting. Do you think that was a last-minute plan to incorporate him into the story, or do you think it's a great plot twist like I do? ::shrugs:: I'm going to re-read the 3rd and 4th years just to remind myself as to what happened...

JJRiddler: my avatar is one of the X-Men, called Zeitgeist .That's really all I know about him, but I think he looked cool/hot, so he is now reflecting me. :toothy

About Neville:
I think, if I make another one of my theories, there might be a moment in the upcoming two books where Harry tries to force the responsibility to Neville by telling him he could be the one in the prophecy, but then everything goes wrong, and Harry is assured that he must be the one to kill Voldemort.

Was there any symbolism about both Harry and Neville seeing the prophecy when the glassorb broke, though they didn't hear what the ghost said? (This just reminded me: wouldn't it had been more reasonable just to write down the prophecy? :smirk: )

Another thing what struck me was when Dumbledore told Harry that he must kill Voldemort or be killed, and Harry was actually worried about commiting a murder? Geez, what a hero...
That was my first reaction, too.
(Whoops, almost forgot the tags >_<) The way it happened did seem too surreal. And Harry could hear the voices behind it, so there had to be something on the other side. If sounds could get to Harry, there'd be no reason why he couldn't get back too. Maybe if he tied a rope around himself...

Meh, I can dream. I want Sirius back >_<
:D O.K. I'm on the official Warner Bros Harry Poetter forum, and there are a lot of theories and rumours flying around there.
One of them is that
One of the people in Harry's year will become a teacher by the end of Book Seven, Judging from the way things are going, I can see it being Neville.
I really loved the way
Neville changed in this book, and we finally got to meet his parents, I had always wondered about what Saint Mungoes would look like...
Does anyone have a theory about what the next book will be called. I have heard a possible name from two different sources, but I don't know how reliable they are... Judging by how early on it is, I doubt the truth of the rumours, but then again, JKR has alrady started on the sixth book, so that could include the tittle. :D

well alot of what i think has already been said so here i go
I think Cho is a wussy whiny conceited b****, and i think she is OVER-grieving...Harry should have never liked her, it was a waste of time and energy...

i HATE that umbridge woman!! every time i read 'hem hem' i almost screamed in fury, i wanted her to just disappear off the face of the...well, harry potter earth...

i also cannot believe that i felt sorry for snape...i mean JKR really brought some emotion into his life...almost justified his anger, i just think he needs a different outlet for it than Harry, Harry is not James...its not fair to bully him like that for revenge on his dad...

i think that Sirius' death has a purpose, even if nobody wanted him to die :( Maybe his death will help Harry grow up a little, maybe learn to control his fiery temper somewhat...ah well, i'm always pro-Sirius's return...i hope he does come back
i really do think that this was JKR's deepest, most emotional book so far...i cried for a few chapters in a row, which was hard, cuz it's my mom's book and i'm not allowed to disturd its perfection....*sighs*
Oh. my. god. no. Someone kill me if that happens.

The fifth book was ok. I just felt like all the characters were kind of dropped on me. Harry has an attitude (At first, I thought he was possessed), Ginny can now talk to Harry without blushing, not to mention "talk back" and had a boyfriend all this time. Luna maybe be loony but she irks me with those "kiss me, I'm special" qualities. And Neville... he was there, now he's here. Hogwarts number one bad boy ready to rock the wizarding world. I'm going to go drown myself in a tub of melted ice cream if Neville can start doing "cool things" and become "more like his father" by using his own, new wand that chose him.

Yes. Maybe Harry will be able to see him again by some wierd freak accident, I don't know. But I do think that he' gone. Prancing around with his best friend James. I've come to the theory that JKR hates pretty people and will make them crazy or kill them off one by one. Goodbye Draco.

This was one of the cutest lines in the whole book. "Harry had a feeling that Sirius was the only person his dad would stop showing off for," or something like that. What a tease.
edit: Eck! I didn't see that. *hopes no innocent eyes saw anything*

...[I thought Professor Umbridge was really well done. The 'hem, hem' brought out really violent reactions from my friends, and once again, it was, quite simply, wonderful writing. There needed to be a bad teacher in there, after Harry was feeling sorry for Snape -- and guess who filled the criteria?

I thought the hand thing was a brilliant idea! I know it's blood thirsty and everything, but who in their right mind would have expected that?

I know quite simply that a lot of people loath 'that Umbrige woman', and that was the required feeling in this book.]

Yeah, about Umbridge...While I couldn't stand her, it was her character that made some of the greatest moments of the book for me.

(I love the white text thing, heheh.)

-->The twins' fireworks were brilliant. How none of the teachers could take care of them personally, and always sent for Umbridge? It was terrific. I adored Flitwick's line: "I could have got rid of the sparklers myself, of course, but I wasn't sure whether I had the authority..." Brilliant. I laughed so hard. *hugs Professor Flitwick briefly*

-->And the twins' fantastic exit, of course. I can only imagine poor Molly's reaction, but,oh--it was a great scene. ^_^

Umbridge: So! So...you think it amusing to turn a school corridor into a swamp, do you?
Fred: Pretty amusing, yeah.
(Sara: EEEEEEEEEEEE! *practically hugs the life out of Fred*)
Umbridge: You two are about to learn wht happens to wrongdoers at my school.
Fred: You know what? I don't think we are. George, I think we've outgrown full-time education.
George: yeah, I've been feeling that way myself.
Fred: We won't be seeing you.
George: Yeah, don't bother to keep in touch.
Fred: If anyone fancies buying a Portable swamp...
George: Special discounts to Hogwarts students who swear they're going to use our products to get rid of this old bat.
Umbridge: STOP THEM!!!!!
Fred: Give her hell from us, Peeves.

And Peeves, whom Harry had never seen to take an oder from a student, swept his belled hat from his head and sprang to a salute as Fred and George wheeled about to tumultuous applause from the students below and sped out of the open front doors into the glorious sunset.

Sara: *collapses from sheer exhileration, landing with a soft "oof" noise on her bed*

-->And Professor McGonagall. I've always liked her, but my--she was fantastic against Umbridge. "are you *quite* sure you wouldn't like a cough drop, Dolores?" Reading that was pure joy. Pure. Joy.

I was terrified when she was blasted, though. o0;

*guilt* I'm glad it was Sirius and not her.

I love the white text thing too. To me it seems less chunky than the Spoiler tags.

[To do the white lettering, use the tag like this: [ color = white ] , without the spaces. Then close it with [/ color]]

...With the horses, I thought it was well done too. Although, I was a little stumped for a while as to why Harry couldn't already have seen the horses after the incident when he was 1. I'm not sure what conclusion I came up with.

...I agree with your estimation of Umbridge's character making the best parts in the book -- I burst out laughing when the twins left, and Professor McGonagall's interaction with Umbridge was just classic.

I have to agree with you. I was terrified when McGonagall got struck down...but my friends had already told me who died.

Except for the fact that you cannot tell if the person has spoilers or just blank areas unless they specifically say. Plus they don't exactly work at all for people on the Industrial skin. The backgrounds aren't white... I can't argue that this doesn't look far nicer though lol.

Oh well, I'm being a baby and defending my reasoning for making the spoiler tags like that lol. It doesn't matter to me, really.

In any case, Tori got me interested enough to bother to read these things... but I guess I have to start from the beginning.

Yes. I was being a baby like I said heh. I can always install a white one too.

I had this random idea, and I want to know if it is feasible. For some reason it interests me.

Could I start from the fifth book and make my way back to the first? Or would that ruin things so badly and make me so confused that I should never, ever do that?

You probably could, although, chances are it's take you a while to put things together. And of course, there are some events that run on from each of the books. It really depends on whether you were worried on having some spoilers from the first books after reading the latter ones.

 • 11 months later...
I just finished the book the other day:genius:! No one has posted for a while but I wanted to see if anyone wanted to talk about this great series again?

I think one of the least talked about aspects in this book is the one that Queen Asuka mentioned in her post, the mirror. What breaks my heart was how
this whole time Sirius is not only scheduled for death, but dying a slow death by loneliness. His last months could have been filled with such happiness and companionship if only Harry would have used the mirror. I cried just thinking about Sirius, sitting in his empty house staring at the empty mirror for hours, waiting for Harry to appear. 'Why wouldn't Harry come?' he must have been thinking. I can just hear him speaking the name...
'Harry?' but no reply. *sniff

There have been a lot of complaints from people as the characters did things they as readers didn't 'want' or think was 'right' I would never strike J.K. Rowling or even complain, I love these books. (But I might steal her dump truck full of money she must have to use to move it around ;)) I know that it's people's passion and love for the books that makes them care enough to complain, but please people, don't hurt our dear Ms. Rowling, let her write what she wants to, what will be will be.

For me, a big part of these books (something I have to caution myself against to a degree) is the way they make me reminicse (sp) for a childhood, whether it be my own or the one I never had. I'm 23 so kinda still being a kid, but it woulda been great to go to a boarding school if they were like this, building a community, friends, houses and being busy. Don't get me wrong I love my parents and my own past, but I do endulge in such thoughts to a degree at least subconcious as I read. I suppose I am just mentioning it because I'm growing up myself and as the song goes, "I don't wanna grow up..."

Speaking of growing up,
I think in a big way these books are about growing up. The other scene in which my heart was jerked was when Dumbledoore shed his tear for Harry over not making him a Prefect. With all that's going on, with all the danger, and all the respoinsibility he has and with all the trouble that is falling into his lap, Dumbledoore is still taking the time to think about everything big and small and doing his best for everyone. We see here that Harry is growing up but at the same time is still a boy compared to the maturity of Dumbledoore.
Good comments everyone. I agree with a lot of stuff, Umbridge is a character that makes us emotional and the horses being newly seen... long story short, I love Harry Potter :)
