There are actually three mangas of the legend of zelda. The first on depicts the gameplay of the original game, which didnt do so well..then theres the orcarina of time one which did really well..then Majora's Mask...made by the same person...the only reason why you dont know about it...is because it never came to america...only like zelda fanboys..know about it...x.x well go to a search engine..wellI would suggest google...then put in "Manga Legend Of Zelda" or "The Legend Of Zelda Manga"

If Nintendo ever attempted a movie...I think it would be great if they teamed up with someone like Pixar/Disney to do it. You know...none of that "pass it off to someone who doesn't understand anything about CGI movies" stuff.

So, I'd like to see maybe a cel-shaded cartoon...I think it could be done. But certainly, it wouldn't be easy to please the fans.

If I saw an animated movie though, I'd like a "2D CGI" type thing. So, in other words...something 2D, but very sharp...and with 3D elements added. If you've seen Invader Zim, you know what I mean (at least in terms of 2D/3D implementation...not necessarily "animation quality").

An anime would be kinda hard..being as Link cannot talk. You seen the original cartoon right?Link spoke..and it sucked not just that..but that was the main reason. You know how hard it is to do a crossover with the legend of zelda?!I did a Legend Of Zelda/Inuyasha crossover where Link looks for the Triforce in Feudal Japan. In the parts where inuyasha insults him...you know how hard it is to come up with a sign language for Link to respon in?!An anime would kinda suck being as though it would be hard to make it that Link would talk and it would be good..>_<

In the world of philosophy..Link can talk...but..in nintendo games..he either cant talk ..only saying grunts and noises from being hurt or noises when he attacks....or.....he's just the strong silent type. But to go by the way of the nintendo games...it would be best if Link wouldnt talk...>_>

Dude, who said anything about crossovers? Who gives a rat's *** if you tried to give Link a voice? You were writing a crossover...a fanfic.

What makes you think a LoZ movie would attempt crossovers? The LoZ Lore is strong enough without diluting it with pointless introductions of non-related characters.

Your logic is faulty and your argument weak.

Why would you like to have Link not talking? Have you read Zelda manga? He's much better off talking. Believe me, he's much better off...

Ooh...nice reply. Pfft. n00b using n00b insults. Nice work. I'm impressed. No, really. I am. Here, you get a cookie.

Yes, I do remember the Legend of Zelda cartoon. And yes, I do recall how it failed miserably. But you're talking about an archaic, ancient, late 80s cartoon that had little to none production value, and that was featured once a week on a non-network station (as in, not ABC, NBC, or CBS).

Now, considering ALL THAT that you failed to consider (n00b), does it seem so ridiculous that a LoZ movie/anime would fail as poorly? You can bet on your granny?s grave that the Big N would be sure to get the best team they can to bring Zelda to the big screen.

James had suggested Pixar/Disney.

Pixar and Disney KNOW animation. Did you happen to check out Pixar's stuff? Toy Story? Bug's Life? Monster's Inc? The voice acting was pretty damn spectacular, if you ask me. And Disney has created some all time great animated films. Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, Lion King, Bambi. Shall I go on? If you're about to say those animated films are lacking in the audio department, that if Disney/Pixar were chosen to handle a Zelda movie, the voices would suck ***, then, please, talk about Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Dave Foley, Dennis Hopper, Ving Rhames, and Gilbert Gottfried. Surely you don?t think they suck?

Don?t try to rip me a new one, son. And nice try on the flaming.

Before you try to demolish someone with the name of PoisonTongue, try to get informed about the entire subject and remove yourself from your stagnant provincial beliefs, for they serve you no good, and only further provide a negative light to you.

Cheers!

*sends ban warning* If I see you flame anyone again, you're gone. You don't have the right to insult someone just because they disagree with you.

I have to agree with PoisonTongue, though. I highly doubt that Link talking or not talking would affect how good a Zelda anime, manga, movie, or whatever is. Sure, the old Zelda cartoons were horrible, but do you actually think it was solely because Link spoke? The reason why most people have sour memories of that cartoon, I bet, is because the story was boring, the characters were annoying (everyone, not just Link), and it was just an overall low quality cartoon. Link's horrible dialogue may have contributed to the cartoon's failing, but it definitely wasn't the deciding factor.

Also, have you ever read the Zelda: A Link to the Past comics that ran in Nintendo Power, volumes 32 through 43? Link speaks in those, and I absolutely love that comic series. I even liked it enough to order the book of them, which I read every now and then. Just try reading those comics and telling me Link's dialogue isn't funny and well written.

And I don't get why you think that having Link speak is bad in the first place, other than the example of the old cartoon. That's only one example -- why would that one example make anything else automatically bad if Link speaks? That makes no sense and is indeed faulty logic.

Pixar/Disney would probably be good, but why not have Japanese animators work on this one? Zelda (and all video games) originate from Japan, so they can handle the cartoons about them.

Have you read the OOS manga (see the link from my last post)? Link has great dialogue in that series. There are some things that never happened in the game in that manga, but it still has all of the great qualities of the game. I'm in love with it, and I'm going to read the rest of the manga that's on that site.

XP Bleh. The manga is good enough. I don't think there should be any movie made out of Zelda, because the video games are good enough for me. There's no need to make a crappy version of Zelda that probably has nothing to do with the original plot and send it on to theatres where critics will flame it to death.

I love watching animations. Just because a certain game is made into a movie, doesn't mean the fans will stoop down to fractured loyalty. Gamers will always be gamers, and movie-goers will always be movie-goers.

Screw the critics! I think an animated trilogy would be great. Instead of deciding between live action or animation, how about CG? I remember the commercials for the GBC Zelda games. I remember thinking: "Damn, that's great animation! Looks like it would be a great movie series or something!"

But, that's just my opinion. :twitch:

None could introduce better than the games themselves. Beause almost all cartoons, movies, and comics based on games turn out o just plain suck. Example: Final Fantasy the Spirits Within. It had very little to do with the final fantasy games. No summons, or Aeons it was a whole different thing.

Um...we're discussing what would be the best way to introduce people to the games through something else. Obviously the games would be the best to start out with, but for people that aren't into gaming, what would be the best way to get them interested in them? And this is assuming that whatever it is, be it movie, anime, comics, whatever, would be done well, too. Obviously it wouldn't help if it were crappy.

I know that this is off topic, but in case you haven't noticed, no Final Fantasy game has anything to do with another (except FFX2). I just thought that I should clear that up.

I agree that a better way to introduce games to non-gamers is through a movie, but the non- gamers would probably avpid the movie since they haven't heard of the games. Some people have exceptions, and want to try something new, but some don't like video games at all and wouldn't see the movie for it. Then again, even though it wasn't originally a video game,I would say that the LOTR movies are a great success, although most people probably haven't read the books. I have no idea where I'm going with this.

Zelda has already been introduced through another medium....kind of. Toki no Ocarina and Majora no Kamen as well as the Oracle mangas are out in Japan and have been for ages.
I reckon the best thing to do would be to translate those and release them in the Western world, that would be a smart thing to do (Nintendo, are you listening?).

But an anime, I'm all for it. I mean, Nintendo have already started airing the Legend of the Falcon anime based on F-Zero in Japan, and that's hardly their most popular franchise. So why not make a Zelda one? Unlike that horrible cartoon they had some years back *shudders*.

I reckon a CG movie would do pretty well, just imagine a hi-resolution version of that GameCube tech demo they showed a few Spaceworld's back. Maybe if Square Movies reopens Nintendo could strike a deal with them to make a Zelda movie (Nintendo, are you still listening?).

I remember watching the animated cartoons that were like 3 minutes long after the mario bros real life show every sunday back in Dominican Republic.
It would be cool to see a zelda movie...but noone would care. To me, Zelda lost its magic back in Majoras Mask, the game that should had been the last of the big console series.
Why? because every other one sucks now, and the GB, well, it does a good job at giving us the extremely crappy gameplay so noone would play the GB version anyways.

Majoras mask finished off Ocarina of time, which in my eye, was good enough for the series. Bah, i lost my taste for Zelda a long time ago.

No one would care? Look around you, dude. There are lots of people that have posted in this thread that would obviously care, and tons of other Zelda fans out there. Try going on Nintendo's official Zelda board and taking a look at the sheer amount of posts, and then tell me no one would care. Just because you lost interest in the series doesn't mean everyone else did.

And as a bit of a side-note, if you're going to bash the recent Game Boy Zelda games, you'll also be bashing A Link to the Past (which was on the SNES originally) and Link's Awakening. A Link to the Past/Four Swords is a remake, while the Oracle games use the exact same game engine as Link's Awakening. You can't say that the gamplay in the recent GB/GBA games is bad without saying the gameplay in older Zelda games is also bad.

Also, you say that no one would continue to play the Game Boy Zelda games. I think what you mean is that you won't continue to play them. Like I said, there are still tons and tons of Zelda fans out there that enjoy the series. The success of A Link to the Past/Four Swords proves that. Both my friend and his sister have a copy, and their dad is thinking of getting a third copy so that they can all play Four Swords together -- how many other games would people be willing to do that for?

So yeah, there are plenty of people that would care about a Zelda movie, and I don't doubt that, if it was done well, it would be highly successful. Just because maybe you wouldn't care doesn't mean that no one else would care. I know I sure as heck would. I'd be first in line to go see it, heh.

Des hit the nail on the head right here, heh. All of the Zelda games (with the exception of Adventure of Link, I suppose) have the same core gameplay with a few differences that distinguish each game from the others. So, if you hate one Zelda, you'd hate them all, seeing as the gameplay is so similar. By the same token, if you love one Zelda, you'd most likely love them all. But hating one or two Zelda's out of the whole lot strikes me as a bit odd (unless you're talking about the CD-i Zelda games lol).

And about a Zelda movie (I have no idea whether or not I've already posted in this topic lol), I'd have to say that if it was done right, I'd definitely go see it. I mean, why would you not? Zelda would translate rather easily to the big screen: good story, lots of action and adventure and even some romance if the people making it chose to act upon Link and Zelda's feelings.

*applaudes* Well said! Anyway, I think that a live action movie really wouldn't do so well for LoZ. I just saw the commercial for the Zelda bonus disk thingy, and well... Oh, my...*shudders* But a really, really good anime might do the trick.
*does a happy dance* Wheeeeeee! I just found some Legend of Zelda manga!!!! *goes back to read more*

I wouldn't... Unless of course there was a "Link Girl" in every scene. Or if Samuel L. Jackson played Link.

EDIT: And he would have to were a Kilt!
