Domon
I'm sure that by either grapevine or by reading July's issue of Shonen Jump you read about the tournament that will be held in Madison Square Garden in New York. Well my question for you all is. Are any of you planning on entering??? And what are your opinions about this?
Ben
I actually hadn't heard of it. But now that I have, I'll have to see about entering. I probably won't do it, just because I can't seem to do well against people I don't know. I tense up, you know? Anyway, how did you say ou heard about it? Domon
I read about it in Shonen Jump. The site is www.konami.com/yugiohtournament, you sign up either on that site or you buy the latest issue of Shonen Jump and send in the mail-in entry form. Of course you have to have the password that you see in Shonen Jump too. Its on the first page of the magazine.

boothten
There was one here in Escondido, California about 4 months ago. I went to it and loved it! My favorite had the be the actual Tournament they had. You have to beat three people consecutivly to win the Tournament. Of course, it was no big tourny, because you only got a stciker to go on your badge. The one I really liked was the Millineum Puzzle. You get to go up agian a realy Pro. I lost after 5 turns. They are hard!
AzureWolf
Lan, that was the Yu-Gi-Oh! Malltour, and it was a blast to play in, since you got a better understanding of how good you really are (I felt better, because the competition at my store is great!). Yeah, unfortunately, don't let Upperdeck's advertising fool you. They only say the truth once, and that's hidden in like one place. Anyway, there's no way to enter the worldwide championships. You can only enter to WATCH the top 5 duelists from the US compete for the title of "king of TC games." Anyway, there's an alternate title "king of TC video games." That's the random drawing one, and you just play Stairway to a Destined Duel with like 3 other people. People watch you play, and that's it. However, there will be another Malltour, so to speak. That's what you can sign up to do before the championships.. But remember, YOU CANNOT SIGN UP TO COMPETE IN THE WORLDWIDE TOURNAMENT, YOU CAN ONLY SIGN UP TO WATCH IT. UDE are a bunch of jerks trying to advertise it otherwise. They don't say it clear enough...
Guest Altron Gundam
Good for those Eng. CCG duelists then. They get to show off the current metagame and how its supposed to be done. But otherwise..maybe if it was an all JP tourney I would go, but blasting n00bs, one after the other isn't that fun.
Domon
Actually Azure Wolf I've spoken to several people who signed up for the worldwide tournament, one being from Britan, he signed up and they asked wether they wanted to compete in the card game or video game. I think it might be the same for us, we just have to be told. Otherwise how else would they choose any of the American duelists?? Sorry but I doubt that Konami and Upperdeck would lie about this. Or maybe people got confused. Anyways I think you'll have a choice of dueling with the game or the card game and not watch the 5 duelists. You'll probably go into several rounds or something. Otherwise what would the point be in advertising it also in Shonen Jump, that could tarnish Shonen Jumps name and they would also come off at liars. I also signed up for this tournament but they have yet to release the results but they will do that either by e-mailing you, calling, or mailing you the old way. Anyways, I'm done ranting. AzureWolf
Domon, I'm sorry: I don't know how it works for any place except for the US. In Britain, maybe some people can sign-up (even though I doubt that). However, you can see for yourself how they try to elude the fact that you cannot participate:
From http://www.upperdeckentertainment.com/worldchamp2003/ Do you have what it takes? Come watch as TCG and video game duelists from around the world compete in the biggest tournament of the year and duel for the ultimate titles: Yu-Gi-Oh! King of TRADING CARD GAMES and Yu-Gi-Oh! King of Video Games! Next year IT COULD BE YOU!
Now, here's the part of the registration that everyone seems to be fooled by
Would you like to attend the World Championship 2003 Finals?
The way they word it is ambiguous, but notice how they don't use "participate" like they almost always do... Domon
Well Azure that site is not the real site where you sign up for the tournament. Like I said before I highly doubt Konami and Upperdeck are going to just have you come to Madison Square just for that. If so then so what? Its totally free if you are selected. But the site I posted and linked is the real site you go to and I saw no where on it that you only get to watch. So that site you quoted obviously is a seperated entity. AzureWolf
Haha, not the real website? That's a good one... Anyway, the website you posted is just what I said it was:
Anyway, there's an alternate title "king of TC video games." That's the random drawing one, and you just play Stairway to a Destined Duel with like 3 other people. People watch you play, and that's it.
It's only a sweepstakes, and can you imagine how many people have entered it? Only four of those thousands upon thousands of entrants will actual be selected. And again, that's just to play on the GBA game. There's no way you can enter the actual, more important, card game tournament. You can list as many "real" websites as you want, and I'll post as many "fake" websites I have to, but in the end, I've yet to see a clear-cut, no bull, outright statement from UDE saying "Enter TO PLAY/PARTICIPATE IN the Yugioh Worldwide tournament!" Yeah, you can be one of those four selected people and come for free, but everyone else will have to pay the $2 fee just to watch those four people play. Besides, I'd rather not watch a few people play on their GBA's. The card game is a different story...
Domon
I meant not the real one as in the sign up one -_-; and I didn't say fake I also added in seperate entity seeing as how there are two different registrations. And besides I do believe that you do get to duel with your cards. We'll just have to wait and see now won't we.
kiteS23
Believe it or not Azurewolf is telling the truth. Koonami has selected five the five top ranked duelists from their duelist league to compete against top ranked duelists from other countries. They will most likely have areas where attendes can duel each other but it will not be for the championship.
Guest Altron Gundam
Well of course they have to restrict the tournament to only those top ranked. --;; They can't just open the tourney to the public because then there would be countless n00bs going around and it would be hard to get things done. G.D. Ryoko
I am so mad because I am not going. Madison Square Graden is an hr train ride from where I live in Brooklyn. I am going to miss it. Well I guess I`ll hear from a friend of mine about it.
AzureWolf
Sorry to hear that, G.D. But since we have some OB members going, is there any meeting going on? I'm just wondering since some people do that at conventions. :)

AzureWolf
So, for those of you who went, how was the Yugioh Worldwide Tournament? I heard it was exactly how I warned: the Yugioh Malltour, except with a Worldwide tournament that you can only watch in, not play in. Additionally, I heard that the US side in the World tournament was really sad. One of my friends said he played two of them and they were easy pickin's. I guess he was right when he said that the people on the top of Duelist Kingdom Tournament didn't have any competition... I honestly thought those guys earned their position. :( Speaking of DK Tournaments and World tournaments, anyone hear about them using a new system to choose who gets into the World Tourneys? Here it is: http://www.upperdeckentertainment.com/worldchamp2003/news_article.asp?nid=109 Does anyone know the details about this new setup, or any ideas/comments about changing the format? I'm all for it, since the competition in my store is high, and so no one ever stands out in the DK tournament.
kiteS23
the thing with the duelist kingdom is Azure, that you get rank points for even going to a tourney. So lots of the higher ranked people don't win tourneys, they just drive around big cities going to a lot of them.
Guest BakurasAngel
Yeah I've heard about it. . .from Shonen Jump. . . .wish I had a banner thing. Oh. . .I'm ranting again.
