She looked up at the ceiling, then closed her eyes. The scent of the joss sticks was still heavy on her mind....dulling her senses....sending her into a heady oblivion that was heaven. At least compared to her present circumstances. She leaned over and felt the sting of all her worth.... not much.

Once the object of affection and debacery. Now a mercenary with a chip on her shoulder. Back a mass of scars and tattoos. Self and otherwise inflicted. A child of pain, not joy. Born of a hopeless woman. Now in the company of fools and sage. Doomed to roam the earth with no peace. For years. Upon years.

Knock on the door. She sat up.

Before Wolf entered his room, he heard a smash in the next room over. He crept down the hall and listened in through the door.
Voice 1: Where is he?!
There was a smash, obviously indicating someone was being thrown against the wall.
Wolf: That sounds like that Arus guy...
Voice 2: Go ahead and kill me! You'll never get it from me!
Arus: Have it your way then.
There was a thump as the unknown man's body dropped the the floor.
Wolf burst into the room. No one was there except a limp body on the floor bleeding through the neck.
Wolf: Hmmmm...
Wolf then returned to his own room.

Ken slept peacefully until he started dreaming. He dreamt of old friends, dying because of guns, and him practically unable to help. He killed who he could and almost met death.
Ken woke with a start, and looked around the room, expecting to see somebody pointing a gun at him, but all he saw was a lightly snoring Kyp. He shook his head and knew he would be unable to go back to sleep. He stood and placed his weapons back on his belt and exited the room, seeing Wolf as he did. He gave a small nod and continued walking. He started to roam the halls, and would probably keep it up till morning.

She kicked the door out of the way, then sat down again, sheets pulled up to her chest. Ken walked in and set the chair upright. She smiled and he closed the door.

Sayuri: To what do I owe the pleasure of your company?

Ken: Bored. You seem to be fine.

Sayuri: I had to exorse the bad dreams...

Ken: Do you ever dream of your home?

Sayuri: My home was hell. My mother, a slut. My father, forgotten. I have nothing but myself.

Ken didn't really know what to say, he looked down at the floor, then looked back up at her. "I'm.. sorry, you are unfortunate to not have had a.." He dreaded saying this, "Er.. honorable family." He could almost invision her sword plunging into his chest.

With his eyes closed he waited for the strike, but it didn't come, he opened his eyes and looked at Sayuri, he couldn't tell what she was thinking.

"Forgive me, I did not mean to say that," he said quickly, hoping that if she was mad at him, she wouldn't kill him just yet.

Sayuri looked out the window, then back at him. She sighed and looked at her scarred wrists.

Ken: ....are you alright?

Sayuri: I've always strived to live with honor. After a childhood of hell. I hope to die on my feet. With my eyes open.

Ken: I think you will.

Sayuri: ....this life is a parody.

Ken: You hate it?

Sayuri: I don't love it.

"I believe you when you say your life was bad, but that is no reason to hate it." Ken started, he looked out the window that she just had. He let out a small sigh then looked back at her, "You've plenty of years ahead of you. You never know what may happen, something may oocur that makes everything seem better."

"Oh? And what would that be?" Sayuri asked.

Ken shrugged, he hadn't really thought this out that far, but he quickyly put something in, "I don't know, you may find someone, start a family of your own, and not end up like your mother.. er, No offense."

Wolf sat in a chair and could hear Sayuri and Ken in the next room. all he could do was wonder how this had come together. could it be called distany. if so he was unclear as to where the path of distany would take them. they all seemed to have intersting lives, and all effect by the gun in some way. Wolf could only sit and ponder his own life. his path of the samurai had had its share of bumps along the way. this was truly one of them. after the gun came to his school ha turned his back on his teacher and even family. for his disloyalty he got his scares. Wolf knew very well who they would have to comfront to end this, and his skills far surpased Wolf's at the moment. Wolf could only hope that the gun had made the leaders skill fall. the white haired warrior drifted to sleep while still thinking of the challenge ahead. tomorrow they would reach the outskirts of the fort. then there skills would be put to the test. for the men there could hit just about anything they wanted to with there guns. it seemed they had found a way to amase skill with the weapon.

Sayuri: Are you volunteering?

Ken: Uh...no...no not really.

Her eyes snapped and sparked playfully, and for the first time, he noticed how normal they looked when she was calm.

Ken: Why do your eyes change so much?

Sayuri: It's a trait inherited from the nuns that raised me during my first four years. They taught me the skills they had, and then...I was lost.

Ken: Lost.

Sayuri: Found by a clan of samurai with twisted senses of humor.

Ken: Do all nuns have that skill?

Sayuri: To change color with thought? Yes. It's something to offset the opponent.

"Well I think it works quite well.." Ken said as he shifted uncomfotably in his seat. When he had told her that she may have a family one day he didn't really mean he was offering anything.
"So this samurai clan, I take it their twisted sense of humor.. sort of caused those scars on your wrist?"

Sayuri: Those are mine. These...are theirs.

She turned to have her back to him, removing the sheet and exposing herself. Whiplashes, curled around tattoos that could've resembled calligraphy. She looked down at her lap. His short intake of breath was better than the horrified screams she had gotten earlier. She turned around and pulled the sheet up over her body again.

Sayuri: ....their stab at artwork. No pun intended. I've also been branded. But a to where, I will not say.

Ken supressed a shudder when he saw the scars, but he couldn't hold back the small gasp. Then and there he made a promise to himself that when this ordeal was over he was going to find this samurai clan, wherever it was, and neutralize them.

"Those could not have been samurai, I've never heard of such things." Ken said in disbelief.

"Do you think this is something they would share with the world?" Sayuri sarcastically asked, staring straight at him.

"I supose not, but still, they are not samurai, they are monsters, and all monsters deserve to die."

Sayuri: That is really very touching. We'll have to work hard at killing thim.....but I'm not afraid of hard work.

Ken: Did you beg them to kill you?

Sayuri: Every day.

Her hands trembled slightly, and she clenched them into fists.

Sayuri: They told me I was worthless. I cried for an ending. Finally, I made my own. I was dying...and they threw me away.

Ken: Who found you?

Sayuri: ...the nuns that lost me. Treated my wounds, covered my back in anointing oil.

Ken nodded, but he had to admit, he had a newfound respect for this woman, she has gone through more than he probably ever will. He also decided that if Kyp or Kaiser ever decided to say something insulting to her again, they would have to deal with him as well.

He looked out the window again and realized that it must be very late. "I'm sorry, you must be tired, and we should be trying to get some rest before we set out tomorrow." He stood and bowed low to her, and started to leave her room and go back to his own.

She stood and laid an arm on his chest. He turned. She brought her lips close to his ear and whispered.

Sayuri: Dn't tell anyone please.

Ken: I won't.

Sayuri: Promise me.

Ken: I promise.

She withdrew and smiled faintly. He closed the door softly behind him. She sighed and sat down on the bed. Then she turned over, covering herself with the blankets and sending herself...into sweet oblivion.

Ken walked back to his room and closed the door silently behind him. He found his previous chair occupied now by Wolf, it looked as if he may have been eavesdropping. Ken hoped not for Wolf's sake.

He sat down on the floor, with his weapons in front of him, and leaned against the wall, and fell asleep there. There he dreamt of killing evil samurai.

The next morning dawned cold and windy. Sayuri ran a brush through her hair, then twisted it back. She pulled on her tunic, pants, and boots. Then she clasped her belt hook carefully and slid on her sword. No katana, not when she could use her favored weapon. A gift meant for killing, not for treasuring. She folded her oragami carefully and stuffed it into her shirt. Then she pulled on her leather greaves and walked out the door. Wolf, Ken, and the others were already downstairs, waiting,.

as Sayuri walked down Ken had to ask Wolf.

Ken: did you hear anything last night.

Wolf: my ears hear everything, i told you that already. but they didn't hear anything worth repeating or remembering.

Ken noded at Wolf in his way of saying thank you. Kyp and Kaiser acually greeted Sayuri with a smile. guess a nights sleep can clear once grudges, or atleast for the time being. the group set off again and this timw would stop only at the outskirts of the fort. it would be well into the night by there arival. which would make attacking much easier with most guards in dreamland. none the less they still had many miles to travel before they got there, and there still was no telling what they would come across next.

As they journeyed onwards, they came across a small clearing. As soon as Sayuri walked near it, the whole place began to quake. She ran to the trees, and it stopped.

Wolf: ...that was...

Ken: Not normal.

Sayuri: What did I do?

She tried following the path again, but the quaking got worse.

Ken felt the earth shake and he quickly went over and grabbed ahold of a tree to stay steady. He looked around to see how everyone else had faired. His eyes landed on Sayuri, and she seemed a little troubled. He began to wonder if this place was holy ground or something of that sort.
He carefully made his way over to Sayuri's side, "Do you know what's causing this?"

Sayuri: ....I don't know.

Ken: Did they do anything unholy to you?

Sayuri: ...fed me Tengu blood. Why do you ask? .....aw shît.

Ken: Demon blood.

She clung to the ground, clutching the grass between her fingers.

Wolf balanced himself as the ground shook. he heard the word demon and thats all he needed.

Wolf: Kyp, get to a vantage point. when you see a shot take it. whatever comes out everyone stay calm and fight it like a normal fow.

Sayuri: i don't think that style of fighting will work.

Wolf: we have to be ready for whatever pops up. Sayuri i want you to pilt that thing with everything you got. don't let up until it lies on the ground in a pool of blood. Ken, Kaiser your with me. when it comes out don't let it attack first. use only your best and strongets attacks.

Wolf poped the blade loose from his sheth with his thumb. Ken and Kaiser did the same. Sayuri held as many oragami in her hands as she could. Kyp was in a tree with one arrow pointing at the shaking ground, and another in his mouth for quick grab. they waited for whatever it was to show its face.

This would be the first time Ken had fought a demon, so he didn't know what to expect. He drew his katana, and then decided it would be best to have two weapons going, he drew his wakizashi. He didn't have much experience with two weapon fighting, but he did know how to.

He put his feet shoulder width apart and prepared to pounce on the demon as soon as it's ugly head showed itself, he already decided on a target, the eyes and head. He would just have to be quick enough to get there.

Puff of black smoke, and it finally appeared. Tengu, body of a man, but the face of a bird. In one claw he clutched a katana, in the other, a shuriken. Sayuri hissed at him, and drew her own blade. He screeched, then spoke in a normal voice.

Tengu: You have summoned me here.

Sayuri: I did not.

Tengu: The blood of my eternal brother is in you. Hence, I am called.

She touched her chest, then shook her head. Demon blood, apparently, never left the body like normal drink.....she raised her blade, and let her gaze shrink down to him, and his flickering weapon.

He ducked in, swinging for her head. She reacted with the speed she had always posessed, ducking backwards until her head almost touched the ground, then flipping over him and opening a wound on his arm. He hissed and cut her face. Sayuri wince, but didn't stop moving. He growled and lunged. She parryed easily, then cut through his neck, missing anything that could've been considered vital.

Ken watched Sayuri in awe, she was very quick and nimble. He almost contemplated puting his swords away and letting her handle the demon, which is what seemed to be happening.

He was afraid of jumping in and helping , because he thought that he may only get in her way. So he just held back, and waited to see how things would turn.
