Long Car Rides

What do you like to do on long car trips? What kind of long car rides have you taken and to where from where? I live in Maine and I just got back from NYC. In the car I sleped most of the way and I didn't read very much because reading in the car gives me motion sickness. Just in case your wondering, in New York I went to Rupert's Hello Deli and met Rupert (if you watch David Letterman often you will know what i'm talking about). That was the high point of the day because yesterday night I found out my dog died :( but that probably doesn't belong in this thread so I'll just leave it at that.

Edit: I thought I'd add, the longest car ride i've been on was from Maine to Texas. We stoped at more than one hotel though.

The longest road trip for me ever is from Los Angeles, California, to Pearl Beach?, South Carolina.

I personally love long car trips. It gives me a chance to talk to people for a while, listen to music, and just have to... sit. And it's so fun watching all the different types of cities along the way. The whole time, my dad and I just talked to each other about all sorts of things, until we got tired. Then we listen to music, or take pictures of the scenery. I never really mind sitting in a car for a while, unless it's one of those cars with the really erect seats that you can't really lean back on, and don't have the little head cushion-thingy at the top. Also, it's terrible when they don't have a CD player. Though, if they don't, I just bring my own. ^_^;

i've driven from FL to NY, but that's just uncomfortable. i like the trips to keywest in the pitch black darkness, it's really relaxing, more than keywest itself. i would just put on music like Bjork or Hooverphonic and stick my head out the window and watch the sky and feel the sea brezze. although, there's a certain point where the sea smell turn to ***** smell, so when we got near there we closed the window and after we passed it we opened them again. well, it's not the longest car ride, but it's the one i like the most:)

The longest car ride I ever had was 10 hours. Usually I just sit and do nothing for hours on end or I just listen to my music. The trip that takes 10 hours is from British Columbia, Canada. (where I live) to The southern end of Oregon. I just did this trip on wensday last week and I've done it a few times before as well.

My longest trip I've ever been on was only 6 hours from Macon, GA to Orlando, FL. I was on a longer one when I was a kid, but I was too young to really take in how long it actually was. I was going with my Mema and cousins to visit some relatives and we had a BLAST.

Both times I went to Orlando I was on a charter bus and I slept all the way there and all the way back. Between Georgia and Florida, there is really nothing special to see except a bunch of highway, swamps (WHICH I LOVE!!!!!!!), and trees. There are no marvelous cities or anything of the sort. I love driving through Atlanta, though...the big buildings make me swoon.

Almost every summer my family takes cross country trips. We live in Florida but our whole family is in California so we go all the way! It's a couple week long drive, several days of which are just getting through Texas. I spend most my time reading or writing (ya, I play around with some poetry and book stuff). Most the rest of the time I'm just staring out the window completely lost in space. Though occassionally I'll get into a deep and yet irrelevant convo with my Da.

On long car rides, I do a variety of things. These days, I'd sleep a lot, do homework if I have some to do, play GameBoy, talk, and above all else, play either GameCube or PlayStation 2. You see, we have this whole thing worked out. The small TV that my brother bought plugs into one cigarette lighter, then we bought this cord with an outlet that plug into a different cigarette lighter, to which we plug in GameCube or PlayStation 2. From there we can do anything from play video games, to watch DVDs and play music. Speaking of which, I also make sure that I bring my CD player as well.

The longest trip I remember taking was about 16 or so hours from Maryland to North Carolina. This might seem like a long time, but we were behind this really slow truck, bleh. Not to mention this was before we had our TV, much less any gaming consoles at all.

Hmm... The longest car trip I've ever had was from Northern NJ to somewhere in Canada (I think it was Toronto). Man, it's funny how exhausted you can get doing nothing...

Anyway, I usually just look out the window and let my mind wander. I like the view, and I just think about several things that I normally wouldn't get a chance to think about. Time seems to wiz by like that, but I think of so many things...

My bro usually plays on some portable gaming device (now it's GBA). I tried that a few times, and I got horribly car sick. And it wasn't even like a normal car sickness: this was really bad. Everytime I tried, I had to just lay back and close my eyes so I wouldn't throw up. I couldn't even talk, or else it felt like I was going to throw up.

ii've been from... Maryland down to Orlando, thats my farthest.... Orlando to Tampa on several occations, Orlando to Atlanta on several occations.... just got back from Jacksonville today.... Various places in Virginia to DC, Baltimore, West Virginia and Kentucky. Never been farther west Mississippi so can't say much for that direction.

I try to sleep... if I can't sleep I eat lol. If I can't eat, I stare at nice cars on the road or the scenery or try to play games.... we once brough a tv with us.... that was fun.

My longest car trip ran about twelve hours; I had a good time considering. It gave me a chance to take in some great scenery. There were long stretches of farmland that I wouldn't normally get to see. Rolling hills, crops, cattle--it was all very nice. I kinda welcomed the serenity.

Plus, it gave me a chance to spend time with my family and catch up on certain things. I liked stopping at the rest stops and buying the overpriced food and just talking instead of actually eating it.

The car trip was probably what I looked forward to the most, actually. It really gave me time to just sit back, listen to the radio and get lost in my thoughts when talking got old.

The longest car ride i've ever been in is from Dallas, Texas to Boca Raton, Florida...which was around 16 hours, so what I usually do is bring a couple of good books for the ride and if you get motion sickness, make sure your car has 3 rows so you can lay down in the very back and read...or if you don't have the car but get motion sickness, hold the book right up in front of your nose so you don't see any scenery.

Usually for like 5 hour trips we bring our portable TV-DVD player and watch movies while on the road..it's very entertaining...On shorter trips I usually just talk to my mom or my sister or just listen to music.

My longest car trip would be last summers vacation. I decided to drive every where and see all my friends that made it into college or moved out of state. It wa sa blast. I went all around Canada, and the US, and I even went to Mexico once, but I left really quick because they wanted to give me a speeding ticket..damn signs. But anyways, yea, it took all of about 6 weeks total driving, because I would just pick up my friends, and sleep in the bus I have...( I bought a school bus and painted it up...and let a few friends draw on it, we call it te Ghettofied Mystery Meal Meat Deli On Your *** Machine..don't ask).

When I was eight or nine, my family went on a road trip--sort of looped from Wisconsin down though the midwest, over through Texeas to Arizona, and back up and around. That was a long trip--it lasted two weeks, and about every second or third day was spend driving.

We do car trips sometimes. None have been quite as ambitious as that one, heh. Usually just a day and/or night of driving--up to St Paul/Minneapolis, down to St. Louis, or anywhere in between.

I read a lot--it's one of the few times I can grab a few old books and read, mostly undisturbed, for several hours. On vacation this year, I spent most of the bus-time writing a...erhm...letter...to someone. (The letter ended up being rather long..*cough*)

Drawing doesn't work so well, because it's more important to have a flat surface and lack of jarring action when you're drawing than when you're writing.

Alternately, I daydream. I have complex worlds, full of stories, in my mind, and they're always good for a visit. ^_~

I'm loving the AIM convo in your sig Charles. heh...

The longest car ride I have ever had the pleasure of experiancing was from Milwaukee, WI to New Orleans, Louisiana. It wasn't that bad considering we had a coach bus and were going 80mph to 90mph all the time. I sleep in cars/busses. I've always been able to. Even during the middle of the day. It's pretty cool untill people start shoving crap into your mouth while you sleep...

The longest car ride I've been on was from my home town down to Los Angeles. It took about twelve hours, and was pretty boring for the most part. (It was interesting to see all the different cities that we passed through, but after a while it all started to looking the same). I find that a lot of the time on long car rides, though, I just sit and let my mind wander. Or if I listen to one of the CDs that I usually bring, I'll just sit there long after I've finished listening to it, letting the songs run through my mind over and over again. And then, of course, there's my Game Boy Advance. If I get totally bored, I can just pop a game in a play until I get tired of it. Then I usually go back to staring out the window and letting my mind wander. Also, I'll read if I've got a book. Reading in the car has never made me get sick, which I'm really grateful for since I like to read a lot whenever I've got a good book.
