Epitome
Would you rather be a memeber or mod on the boards and explain why. Me, I would rather be a mod, I would like helping people and making sure these boards are an enjoyable place. What would you rather do...
Trigun 11
My answer is same as your's Hataki
RPGchick
I would rather be a member more than a mod. Everyone has to go to the mods with questions and problems. I am not really people person, and I can't stand it when people ask me the same questions over and over again. I am just happy being a member. WW2
I would want to be a member. Moderators have too much responsibility and have to put up with alot of stuff. I don't have the time nor the patience to do their job.
Sara
I'd rather be a member. ^_~ There's a great deal less responsibility. It's nice just to come here and not feel obligated to check on your designated forum(s). On the other hand, I do enjoy actually being able to do something about double posting, etc. So I don't mind moderating--besides, it gives me an excuse to get to know the rest of staff a little better, which is something I've honestly been meaning to do. All things considered, having experienced time here as member, moderator, and category mod, I'll say my stint as Digimod was the most fun. (Although that was admittedly because of the "era" I was a moderator in. I got along with more people much better then.) The period after I stepped down from modding, though, was probably the most enjoyable--I knew just what I was missing. ^_~
Spikey
Well I would rather be a moderator. I would love to help people, and I've never been one or anything like that, so it would be fun to be one etc etc.
Guest Randleman
I'd rather be a mod. I've been a mod on other now-defunct boards before and I love the responsibility. I would love to some day become a mod here. It seems so nice and cozy I would like to be a part of it.
Vertigo
As much as I like righting things and such, I doubt I'm really mod material. Even if I was, I'd probably only accept if offered because I'd be happy that people thought I could be one.
Guest Musahi
Man, I don't really know. I guess I wouldn't care either way, it wouldn't affect how I acted, or how I felt about anything. I would still browse the boards the exact same way, except I would be able to do something (other than press the "Report this post to a moderator" button) about the rule violations I see. Whatever... Shy
I don't really know which one I would rather be. Each have their own advantages, and it seems like I'm never happy with the status I have. As a mod, it gets frustrating to deal with so much spam, but it is worse to be a member and have no control over what other members do. I don't post as often as I would like, because a good deal of my time goes into moderating. Oh, and banning members is a lot of fun. It's great. -Shy
DeathKnight
I enjoy being a mod, so i'd say as a person chooseing between the two i'd pick mod. The responsibilities are fine with me- i'm mainly on during lulls in posting anyway. It gives you something more to do, heh.
Sui Generis
I would definatly want to be a mod. I love modding forums. I mod two other forums, that are of course much slower than this, and Iused to mod one that was good. I always enjoy moding, I don't know it makes me feel like I contributed to the place that makes others feel at home. I love OtakuBoards and really I'd do anything to help it out. If the opportunity came up I wouldn't pass it up. It'd be awesome to be a mod here.

Justin
Eh, when you're a Moderator you have more of an obligation to the forum. And if you're like me, that can be annoying. I have make sure that I can fulfill my responsibilities here constantly. On the other hand, if you're a member, as Shy said, you have no control over anything. And once you've been in a position where you could put an end to stupid topics and such, it can be very difficult to get used to not have that ability. -Justin
wild thang
id rather be a member.i hate responsibilities and i dont really like working with people so moding would almost kill me. anyway...
Ben
I think being a mod would be nice. But then again, being a memebr is nice. I think being a mod would be nice. :p
BabyGirl
Meh, modding has a lot of pros and cons, but it's not all that it's cracked up to be. Firstly, moderators receive a lot of random IMs and PMs, some of them are really nice and rational questions, but others are just plain annoying. However, it also really helps you meet different members when you're a mod because so many people want to get to know you. There are times where I miss being a moderator, especially the category moderator because people really respect what you have to say when you're placed in super-modship. But overall I'm glad that I stopped moderating at Otaku. It was too much responsiblity for what little time I have, and I don't receive weird IMs from radom people anymore. I also feel a lot more open to speak out against the things I disagree with here because I'm no longer someone who has to set an example. I guess the one thing I miss the most is the staff relationships. I was a part of the staff from the beginning of the staff forum, and I miss not being able to read it every day. It was a laid back place, and I had good friendships with a lot of staff members. I really, really miss some of those people that I've lost touch with =\ Concensus: Happy being a member, but tiny things missed about moderating.
TheShinje
I'd rather be a member. I don't think i'd handle the responsibilities of a mod very well and, it's nice to simply be a member and not have to worry about spam, and annoyances like that. The staff are really great around here, I don't think theres much I can contribute to. Also note that at first, when I came here, I would have really liked to become one, funny how things turn out. Guest XBebop
i would be a mod, then i could let people go on more on VERY little thing. Mods here barely let anything go. I mean, i realy don't care if theres a little bit of spam, sometimes spam is fun, just to post a pointless and stupid thing every once and a while.. I was a modat kissdbz for a while, then one the admins banned one of my friends, i called him an @sshole and he banned me ( yeah, he was an immature admin, after that he went on a banning spree.. ). I let some things go. But if they were just topic like " Yo peeps what up " then i'd delete them. Other than that i had no problem. We had party threads, are you a virgin thread, word asosciation ect. and all that fun stuff. But here all i see are boring debates or someone complaining about their lives again.. gettin kinda boring, then only fun part of the forums are the fan fiction/poetry/literature and the anime forums, everything else puts me to sleep. YOU PEOPLE NEED TO GET FUN! lol.. sorry for my babling..
pbfrontmanvdp
Of course a member. There's not point of me or anyone else becoming a mod as of right since i believe they dont need another current mod. There doing a great job the way it is right now. Besides i like being a member and just posting my own points. I dont exactly want to be the one to judge anyone else since everyone has their own opinion. The only thing i would want to do is just be able to stop spamming and unthoughtful threads, but the mods already do a good job on that as well so im happy being a member. If i were a mod though i would mainly want to help people and make them understand what is and isnt allowed. Try to answer as many question as i possibly can and at the same time make it an enjoyable place to stay and talk about either whats on your mind or certain types of categories. Juu
Hmm... that's a pretty hard question. If I had to choose, I guess I'd say mod, though member's just as good. Like a few people said above, modding takes alot of responsibility. You have to be sure to check on your forums and keep them clean, answer random PM's, IM's and E-mails, and check in online often. But then, it feels good to know that you're helping the boards, and setting an example for other members. ^_^ Being a member's also fun, because you don't have quite as much responsibility on your shoulders. But of course, you still have to set a good example, and try to make the community a good place. ^^;
boothten
I'd agree with you Juu. I mean, it would be nice to be a mod, it's just that sometimes I'd rather be a member. I'm not saying that being a mod wouldn't be cool though. I'd like to be a mod, but being a member is just as nice! :) -Lan21013
Charles
I don't mind either way, honestly. It's possible to contribute to the community in a positive way as normal member. By creating fun threads or providing interesting insight, it's possible to enrich the boards as a whole. In fact, the tight community of OtakuBoards is one of its strongest advantages over many other forums. The rich (and well plotted) history here is proof of that. Each person contributes in their own way. One member may make creative RPGs while another may provide valuable opinions in Otaku Lounge. You don't need to be a staff member to be a valuable asset to the site. As a staff member you've been provided with other avenues to give back to the boards. It's volunteer work that doesn't pay in currency, but it's rewarding in many ways. You're able to interpret rules and provide guidance for confused members. And, when you see a trouble maker purposely disrupting the flow of things, you're actually able to do something about it in a place that you enjoy visiting. You're able to help the boards preserve a level of quality through filtering out lackluster discussion and providing insight to prevent it from happening again. Moderating takes a bit of patience and it's a mask that can often disguise you for who you really are. You're exposing yourself to "yes men" and those who would criticize you just for the sake of doing so. Although you're technically supposed to be a role model, you can be placed on an unfair pedestal at times and the expectations placed in front of you are impossibly high. Some people forget that our staff are young people and not machines or something above human. Yet, you do meet excellent people and great friends through what you do, so that more than balances it out. Overall it's worthwhile. It takes patience, but I've never regretted making the jump. I have just as fun now as I did when I was a normal member--because really, I am a normal member (I'm not above the rules)--just with increased responsibility and commitment. PiroMunkie
I enjoy being a moderator more than being just a member. It gives me something definite to do when I am online, and it is not like I do not have the time to do it; even with my job working me like a slave. Not to mention Dragon Ball is not that busy of a forum, especially with two moderators looking over it. I pretty much know that if I am gone, I can expect that Jin17 will pop in some time in my absence and check up on things unless he happens to be on a vacation or something. I do not know... I suppose I have it kind of easy in DragonBall, lol. I have looked at these other moderator's posts here and they speak of getting random instant messages and private messages from people... I do not get that. I know some forums are overrun with "n00bs", but DragonBall only gets a rotten egg every once in a while. It makes me feel kind of bad because it does not seem like I am doing enough. o_O Personally, I would love to see what it is like being a Category moderator, but I do not think there is one category that I frequent all the forums within... with the exception of the staff area, lol. I do not know how Shy can do all of Otaku Anime; seven different forums... it is insane. I do not know... being a moderator has just kind of grown on me. It would be kind of weird to go back to being a member. I would feel so obligated to still perform moderating duties such as telling people not to double post and whatnot. I know that then I would just be one of those irritating members who likes to "play mod", lol. I guess I would rather be a moderator because at least then I know that my life has at least some meaning. =P
XeEmO
I havn't ever been a mod in a forum as popular as otakuboards so it's really hard for me to say. I think I would enjoy being a mod but almost in a different way than being a member. It would let me feel some sort of power. I also think that new members respect the mods more than normal members, because there just mods. But like other's have said it would be a big responsibility as well. Being a normal member means it's not your job to go after people that are breaking the rules. You are free to post whenever, leave, and come back whenever you want.
