Well, I've had experience as member, moderator, and catagory moderator. The whole time being here has been fun, but I think the most enjoyable time was when I was a normal mod of the Zelda and Nintendo forums. It was nice because I could do something about spam and stuff, but I also had people over me, so I didn't have to worry about being on pretty much every day, missing something, or having to make a final call on something. I could always ask the catagory moderator what should be done about something, and stuff like that. Now I'm the one that has to make the final decision on how a particular thread or whatever should be dealt with. (Besides James or Charles, that is; I can still ask them about stuff if I'm really not sure on something).

Being a normal mod was sort of like getting the best of both words, I guess. You can deal with spam and stuff, but you don't have a whole lot of responsibility. Still, I don't think I'd want to go back to being a normal mod if I had the option of staying a catagory moderator. It's also kind of nice having the extra responsibility (I can ban people, mwahaha!), and it's also nice to be helping out with the board. Even if I were a normal member, I'd still be browsing the same forums--I'd just be using the "Report this post to a moderator" link instead of taking care of the stuff myself.

Being a mod grew on me. I first became a mod here about half way through version 1, and since then it's been on and off a bit. I've got used to the responsibilities, and i love helping out. Square Enix isn't the most active forum, and i really enjoy reading anything about it. For me, it's a Win/Win situation. I defiantely love being a mod.

It wouldn't make much difference to me if i was a normal member, i'd just make 'Sko do all the dirty work :p

I've only been a Member and a Moderator, and I'd have to say that the event of becoming a mod certainly brought me new friends, mostly because I had to get AIM to be able to communicate with people.

I enjoy it, because I'm able to actively do things about spam- as useful as 'Report this post to a moderator' is, it's still not the same as doing it yourself, which a lot more satisfying, heh. It's not a power trip as such, just nice to actually do something.

Having said that, you do have to be careful in your decisions- being sure that you don't offend anyone is rather nerve-wracking at times, especially if you have to deal with something a little controversial (not that I have, really). You do sometimes get rattled by people who object to various actions, which is also frustrating because all you're really trying to do is help. You also have to set an example to everyone else, so making sure your post quality is always fine and that you're making valid points can be somewhat trying.

I'm not sure what it would be like becoming a Member again. I guess I'd feel lost for a while- I like having a responsibility to the Boards and it's become sort of routine now. But even then, I think it might be nice to kind of let my hair down, as it were. Having said that, I think I'd probably get into the old habits and just start madly reporting posts, heh.

Just being on OB at all is nice, being a Moderator just makes it more interesting, if not necessarily better. I do enjoy it, though.

I'd have to say I think it would be interesting to be a mod for a day or so, but I don?t have enough time for the boards as it is.

I have recently had some problems which made it difficult to get online very much. Being a mod would have been impossible. I like the freedom of being to come and go as I please and would much rather spend my time on threads I enjoy than policing others.

It would be nice to do something about spam every once in a while and maybe correct some errors I find most annoying...

In the end, being a member is the only way for me. :box:

Nah, I'm just fooling you ^^;;;.

To be honest, I'd rather be a memeber. With all the time you have to be on deal with all the Q & A. Seems like it would blow my brain into a thousand pieces >>. Plus then you gotta deal with all the IMs you get as Baby Girl said. Plus I don't think I'm mod material. I've kinda broken some rules in the past *COUGHFLAMINGJAMESCOUGH* and now that I look back at that, I'm surprised I'm not banned. Which just shows how nice and understanding the mods are in OB. But I do admit, I sometimes wonder whats in the mod forums >>.

Is there anything left for me to say? All the other Moderators have said it all.

Being a Moderator has a lot of responsibility. I'm obligated to visit Otaku every time I get online. And if I get online, and don't go on Otaku, I feel bad. Everyone knows that James is one of those people that it's difficult to disappoint. So at the same time, if you ever do disappoint him, you feel bad. Well. I feel like I'm disappointing James everytime I don't visit Otaku.

I've gotten a few random [ irritating ] IMs. Mainly from members I've never heard of. I am [ obviously ] not the nicest of people, and I hate being IMed or PMed for stupid reasons [ or my favorite ] without a reason at all.

Sometimes I miss being a member. But. I'm too addicted to being a Moderator.

It feels so good to close threads.

:D

But don't fret. If you're cut out to be a Moderator, James probably already knows.

Because.

James is God.

Heh... excuse my silly little attempt at humor... I'd rather be a member... I'm too lazy to be a good mod. BUT if I was offered the position, no way in hell I'd refuse... but that's not gonna happen so...

Being a mod is all right. I tend to come here nearly daily anyway, and most of my moderator responsibilities are taken care of in a short amount of time. Generally when you close a thread, you don't need to come up with a long explanation anyway.

Sometimes there are times when I'm being bombarded with stupid threads and posts... and the most annoying part about that is that they all seem to happen at the same time. Rarely is it just one stupid guy you can take care of and that's that... There are seriously several at once and you wind up having to deal with a few people instead of just one.

I don't know if I miss being a member... I don't think I love being a mod. I guess I like the additional powers you get, but it's not as if you really can abuse them all that much (although I guess that depends). I try to be responsible about what I do.

I don't think I wanted to be a mod for the reasons some of the members here are listing. I'm not really around to help people (although that happens), I'm here to weed out the stuff that causes the problems in the first place. I feel I'm rather helpful if people need something, but it's not why I joined in.

Like Jenna said, sometimes you meet annoying people, sometimes cool people. Most of the people I talk to are people I enjoy talking to... Some just bombard you with questions and only seem to want to talk to me when they need something. What can you do though? Nothing, really.

So anyway, I have no idea where I was going with this heh.

at a few of the other boards I go to I would rather be a mod, but not really to help people. it's more because I would like to get rid of the blatant rule breakers that other mods just ignore...it doesn't happen so much here but it happens at a few of the other boards I go too. but as far as OB goes I'd rather be a member

Well, I don't really mind being a Mod, even though I haven't been for a long time, but that's because I Mod the forum I spend the most time in anyway, so it's not so bad. I wouldn't like to Mod anything other than the Adventure Arena though.

Bleh! I am happy being a Member. I don't really post well enough to be a Mod, and I would be a terrible one anyway. All I would do would be to get Members I didn't like banned, and close threads I didn't agree with...not that any of our current Mods would do that? *Cough!*Harlequin*Cough!

To tell the truth, I really don't know.

One one hand, I think being a mod, having the power to close threads that have about 2 more threads that are exactly the same on the SAME forum page would be great. It gets me so mad when someone can't even be bothered to check down the page to see if anyone else has posted what they're about to post before. Warning people who are constantly spamming and asking idiotic questions that keep getting answered would also be pretty fun.

On the other hand, there's the random IMs...I dunno if I'd be able to cope. Maybe for the first few weeks I'd be alright, but depending on how many people end up popping up and talking to me, asking a question I just answered to the last guy, I might just start telling people to f' off. I suppose I'd be able to post a sticky, but there'd still be someone who can't be bothered to read it and wants the chance to talk to a mod. >_>

Being a member isn't so bad, so long as you know what you can and can't do. If someone's being an *******, you can't warn them, but you can still tell them to shut up.

I don't believe that I'm a good mod but I'm told that I am, I try my best for example I spent half an hour on a script to help out a channel tonight. (Its working like a charm atm.) Hence I have high access in a wide spread of different media all around the world from irc to forums to just random things that I get into. This becomes very tiresome and I often reject new offers and have given up access in many places just to keep up with school work which is annoying but you get that.
I prefer to be a mod in some places and not in others, mainly for the control and the peace of mind that I cannot be banned. Though I know that technically I can never be banned I don't like people who evade so I tend not to.

Being a mod here, I would like to but only to the point where it would mean I would not be banned. (Though I'm not sure if I agree with Harlequin being a mod because he has said that if he ever became one he would delete my posts in the adventure area?) I'm not in any position to be considered as one here anyway because James seems to be on the boarder of banning me and a lot of people on the forums don't like how I act. There are also no forums that I'm interested in except the pc/mac forum and I wouldn't dream of taking from ken.

So I'm fine with being a member so long as I'm treated fairly.

i don't know, being a mod would be nice and i could help people out, but it seems time consuming.(not that i'm not on ob all day anyway) whenever i im syk he's always busy with something and he never has time to make me banners . . . but that may be because he's the only mod in art&design. heh, maybe there should be another one there. but being a member is nice too. i don't think i'd try hard to become a mod and try to become friends with the right people and such, but if i was offered the part (right . . .) i wouldn't pass it up and i'd do my best at it.

also, i'm not sure my post quality is up to mod standerds(sp?)

after i figure this board out i might wanna be one,but until then i dont,im one on another board but i dont mind the questions, but then again i dont get asked alot of 'em,it might be because of my battle record 53-1 and how i tend to get angry in bars(which i own one in that board)

HA! I think you need to take that BACK. I don't know how it is in your forums, but in Anime Lounge I feel like I'm having to take care of 50 forums at one time because of the huge influx of newbies who enjoy posting spammy things in there.

Well, NOW, let me say. I love being a moderator. I am a control freak and this is my way of having some. I love closing topics and deleting posts and warning people because it makes me feel important. Which I am. So yes, being a mod is awesome.

I don't post as much as I used to in other forums such as this one, but I love my forum. It's my baby. :)

The exception that proves the rule. ;)

But okay, for most moderators, it's not like that. Happy? :cross:
