Sere Tuscumbia
Yeah, when I went on vacation a couple of weeks ago, I got bored and did what? Yeah, drew. It was just for practice, and I had expected the picture to come out crappy, but it's turned out nice, and I'm quite proud of it. The only problem is: I drew the picture with the intention of giving it to someone. Thus the reason that I didn't really care if it came out that great or not. And now that I've become so attached to the picture, I don't wanna give it up. Should I? Comments, critisms, anything welcome, please. (Ok, no flaming. You will have to die a slow and painful death . . . ) --Sere
Syk3
Ohh, very nicely drawn. She looks very cool, and I really admire how you drew her hair. The way you drew the image was good, too -- you never made anything too dark, though you could have used a little more shadding. My only gripe with the image is that you drew her waist a little too long, which I would have cut off somewhere in the middle. I've had requests for drawings too. A while ago, I was asked to draw some Dragonball characters, and once I did, I really liked it, so I copied it and gave the person the copied image. All you have to do, in this case, is print it out, and see if the person would mind the drawing not being the original peice. :)
Semjaza
You have a scan of it, so I suppose you could give up the original... That or photocopy it heh. This is quite good. I don't really see any problems. It's a bit strange how big her arm is considering how skinny she is, but that doesn't look bad. I'm also assuming she has her fingers rolled into a fist somewhat, so that looks good too. Despite what people say about her being too long, if you pay attention to the arm placement and everything else... it winds up evening out. Nice job. Scan size is pefect too. Not too big, not too small heh.

eleanor
I thought about it, and I finally recognized the girl! It's that girl...from that book. O_o It's called New Generation of Manga Artists or something. I loved that guy's art. Well, very nice job. Though, at the top of her head, two of the small strands seem to come out of nowhere. Good job, anyway. I hope to see more of your work.
Sara
Oh, Sere can draw! ^_~ Nice job. There are a few bits that bug me--her face seems to come out too far, if that makes sense. o0 But still, good job.
juna
I like her a lot too... the only thing that I can see, which no one has mentioned already, is that the hair for the bangs seems to start suddenly from her forehead, I would try drawing the bangs to meet the hairline that you have already have established. Great job! ^_^
Guest Chris
very nice. i didn't know you could draw. heh. well, her abdomin isn't too long. it's that she's too skiny and her head is small. but you did very well non the less. about giving it to nikki, you should either sell it to her or just give it to her (depending on what kind of person you are). i used to be asked to do pics all the time. i got so tired of it that i finally siad that i only do pics for money or friends. heh. it gets annoying after a while.

Also, the place where the dress ends and the legs begin, her thigh is way off to the side and it makes her body looks pretty deformed. Nice job, anyway.

Sere Tuscumbia
Ok, I'm going to straighten some things out right now. First, yes I did use the "New Generation of Manga Artists" book, and I enjoy that book greatly. Mainly because it has Clamp style artwork. Second, yes, I did use a picture from that book to do this. It was only for practise (as I mentioned before) so I wasn't focusing on perfect. The picture I was basing this off of was about 2 times smaller, and sketched. I was trying to imitate the sketched style in the way I drew. And now, replies: Syk: Yeah, no shading. I did that on purpose. I'm afraid that when I post up these pictures I don't tell the whole story behind them. Since it was -- pretty much -- a sketch of a sketch, I didn't want to use shading. The only "shading" I used was on her hair, because I felt that it needed to stand out from the picture a bit more. And yes, her waist is extremely long. I had to do that to make it work. And plus, I just think it makes her look cool. ^_^ Semmie: Her arm is big? Hmm, I really didn't notice that. I think you're just looking at the sleeve of the school jacket. I also screwed up on the arm, so it does look weird. ^^;; And her hand isn't rolled in any way. Her fingers may actually be that short. I think it's just that the glove makes it look weird. Rhys: Yes, I know about the waist. ^^;; That's every one's main focus. However, I found that I wasn't going to be able to finish the picture without completely starting over (and -- in the fact that I had already been working for 4 hours on it in an unairconditioned feed store -- I wasn't going to start over any time soon) unless I messed with her waist a little. Maladjusted: Just following what the artist did. If Renga (the artist) had drawn (and coloured) a professional picture of that sketch, her hair would have looked different. Yes, it looks like it isn't even connected to the rest of her hair, but that is how the sketch looks. Seriously, am I going to have to scan that picture in and show you people what I mean? And her braids? God, who cares about how thick they are? O_o;; Also, her legs? Again, just following what Renga did. Cera: O_o;; Her head does that? *looks again* I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but okies. O_o;; >>;; <<;; *stares at the head for a while* And I'm very proud of my braids. I've never tried that style before. Juna: Yeah, I know. See Maladjusted for details. ^^;; Chris: Oh yes, I can draw. Getting the whole "original works of art" thing down still (I still need to find a style that works for me, but I'm thinking the Clamp style of manga drawing is working better for me. I'm just completely in love with the way the eyes look!), but I can copy something almost down to the last detail. Yes, I change things on purpose (as in this picture: I made it two braids instead of one) so no one can tell me I'm infringing on copyrights or whatever, but no one can ever copy a picture perfectly anyway. There's always a fluke somewhere. And the waist thing? Yep, you should know already, *sigh*. Hmm, I though her head looked just fine . . . Oo;; I think that should be all. Mmm, long postie. X_x;; Any more questions about background story that I can clear up? --Sere
eleanor
Sorry if I offended you in any way. I only flipped throught the book, so apologies for anything mean I said. About the whole strand of hair that doesn't connect. In sketches, artists tend to draw much faster and...well..sketchier. I guess it would've looked all right on a sketch, but I don't think the picture you posted was a sketch. You obviously worked on it, and so...yeah. And her legs do look weird. They don't exactly connect with the rest of her body.

I figured the fingers were folded back, mostly because otherwise they are shorter than her thumb heh.
Sere Tuscumbia
Gah. *thunk* You didn't offend me. I just don't take critism well. I'm just used to knowing what I based my picture off of, and in an instance like this, where you would need the picture to compare my drawing to, it's hard for my brain to realise that most people just don't have that book sitting on the coffee table right next to them. And yes, I worked on this picture (ok, so it only took a day, but it pretty much took the whole darned day!) but I was trying to imitate the sketchy style that Renga used. In how her dress doesn't exactly connect with her body, how her bangs aren't connected fully, how her braids are messy . . . I didn't want it professional. I wanted it to look like I really didn't care about what I drew. O_o;; I'm not sure if I'm looking at my picture correctly, but I'm just not seeing where her legs look funny. How don't they connect to the rest of her body? And yeah, Semmie, they're shorter. ^^;; If you stare at the picture from a distance (or when it's smaller, because my drawing book isn't nearly that big), her hand looks better. ^^;; I also got lazy by the time I was drawing the hand. I was sick and tired of drawing, so I honestly didn't care how it turned out right then. Also, should I ink the picture, or should I leave it in pencil? --Sere

Guest Chris
yeah, i always change my pics too. usually it's just that little signature at the bottom, but some times when i think it still could have copyright value, i even add a date to it. better safe than sorry.
