Ok, I've talked about this with other people but no one had answer.

Anyways there are two ending in FF9. There's one serect ending but I can't remeber how to get so anyways. I have seen both endings. Before once my friend was playing and I was there watching her play and end the game. She had gotten a different ending then I had.
In the end if you watch closely it turns to a black screen and the words pop up

"Nether Cloud nor Squall shall stop me..."

I was just wandering has anyone else gotten that on their screens? And if so or not what do you think it means? And who do you think is saying that? I know it's not a defect because I had seen it an off players guide by SquareSoft. And so I've been thinking about it lately.

O_o right...

So what? It just mentioned them, as powerful characters, and i'd think it would be Zidane saying that.

Ok...right...and why would Zidane be saying that? Wouldn't it more or less be a villain who says that instead of one of the heors? Cause what dose Zidane more or less has to say "Nether Cloud nor Squall shall stop me" wouldn't have to be a revenge thing?

Heh, I remember this. It was in the play Tantalus was holding yet again (several months after the final events at the Iifa Tree).
At first, I thought the cloaked actor was being dramatic--"Neither Cloud nor Squall shall stop me--" but then I wondered how a cloud could ever stop anyone? Storms (what ship people refer to as squalls) yes, clouds, no. (It took me two more seconds to make the connection to Cloud and Squall, if indeed there was one. :p)

Of course, as far as who said it should be obvious. Zidane. I mean, c'mon, he flung his cloak off and Garnet ran to him. Awww... So neither Cloud nor Squall shall stop him from returning to the one he loves.

Or maybe my memory is just really fuzzed and I imagined all that. :twitch: :D

I think I know what the ending means.

Squall is not only the FF8 Main Character but it is also a storm or tornado like GinnyLyn said.
Then clouds are also kind of beginning of storms so....
Neither cloud nor Squall shall stop me.

So no clouds or storms will stop him returning to Garnet/Dagger/Whatever name you gave her.And Storms can be pretty vicious so he's trying top say nothing will stop him returning to her.

That's my interpretation and I'm sticking with it.:D

Well.. so.. it could be little corny Square joke, or a random wording coincidence. So doesn't this all just really just depend on the capitalization? o.o

*walks off muttering something about getting his Disk 4 back and being bothered to play through end of Disk 3..*

Guess it depends on the view you have. Thinking back if your a true FF freak you might think it's a joke or a link. But for others who aren't a FF freak ti just be about the surronding and what's happening in the game. So yeah I guess it really dose depend on the capitalization.

*mutters about making a fool of her self*

Well my view differs to most of these. In a summary, it refers mainly back to Squaresoft.

Personally, I find the actual meaning of Cloud and Squall to be quite irrelevant. This is all due to the fact that I cannot see Zidane saying that, I mean, witness his language choice.

However, Square Enix's main developer I feel made a quote to the public. As I have read several interviews stating that the plans of the future Final Fantasy are not going to be halted, therefore, as Cloud and Squall are incredibly deep characters, the developer then states that this ending proves that new stories are not going to end the series of Final Fantasies. Bear in mind, no sequels were planning on being made, in exception to Final Fantasy X-2, so there's my take on this theory. I respect the other genuine responses though.

(Ponders on whom the new developed is now. Is it still Hironobu Sakaguchi?)

On the one hand, yes, on the other hand, no. Sephiroth was also a villian in Kingdom Hearts, but he wasn't mentioned. So were Wakka, Tidus, and Selphie. *tears hole in theory* ^.^;;;

Somebody go find some substantial info on this--we're just a flock of crazed fans grasping at straws. ^^;

I believe it may be refering to mainly playable, main characters. Plus Sephiroth is a secret character. And the rest were jokes at the start. Tidus was like two years old. Squall and Cloud being two of the most well known and most important fixtures in recent FF history it would make sense. Considering also that both Squall and Cloud were main parts of the storyline in Kingdom Hearts while, Tidus, wakka and the rest were simply there at the begining. Square is known, as any one knows, to leave hints towards future games in secret endings, it would be no surprise at all for them to leave a hint towards KH in ff9.

Ok, I went and got some info. Cloud is in FF8, both Cloud and Squall met at Esthar yet have no knowing of each other. If you go to one of the stores the owner of the shop is really Cloud. (I never noticed that till now, but I'm pretty sure it's Cloud-shame on me)FF8 you can get a moomba stuffed/robot animal thing, going back to some ruins in FF9 looking in the junk you fine that same moomba thing all borken and ruined Zindane will pick it up then drop it as he has to start to run again. Mind you that you can only do this when your being chased. So don't try and find it only to get your butt kicked and then loose it. And after that you never see it again. Being Squall and Cloud met(but didn't know). I think there is some link or history in the FF games.

Well, in FF9 there is a mention to Kain's Lance.
A spear from the distant past has runes Kain carved on it. I think that's what it says anyway. The crystals were also a tie until they broke.

Next time you people post, please use the spoiler tag. It's very annoying when people spoil a game for people like me who haven't beat it yet. Oh well, just make sure you do it next time.

And as for "Neither Cloud nor Squall can stop me", I think it is just a pun, really. Clouds make things dark and make rain, and Squalls are strong winds/storms. They both just happen to be characters in FF games; it's just a play on words. ^^;
