Charles
Hm--I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't really make it a point to encourage a discussion or go into detail much at all here. If you're going to create a thread like this, hopefully you'll have something more thoughtful to say than "it's better on the inside." lol Essentially the unit's main bells & whistles are a DVD burner, 120 GB hard drive, Ethernet support and a TV/broadcast satellite tuner that'll allow you to record television shows. I'll leave this topic open so that members can discuss whether the enhancements warrant a purchase or not when it releases and whether or not Sony will utilize the hard drive properly at this stage. Maybe gamers don't see it as more of a high-end entertainment device instead of a gaming console. Who knows? lol As long as members are talking about something worthwhile here, I'll be happy. Semjaza
It isn't really a gaming console. It IS a high end all-in-one multimedia device. The $600 price tag alone guarantees that. I have no idea if that was a suggestion from you for discussion, but whatever. At this stage, I really think Sony is releasing PSX as a test. Basically to see what they need and don't need in PS3, what people would actually use and how much people are actually willing to spend. The most annoying thing is that I can no longer refer to the Playstation by its original acronym which was PSX. Blah.
kmjk
I completely agree w/Semjaza on the name issue, which appears to be the #1 complaint, besides the price tag (which appears to be dropping according to Sony). Pros: USB 2.0 Memory Stick compatible High-def output 120G HD (what MS should've done) DVD/CD burning capability Inter/Ethernet capable (no adapter needed) able to record TV Cons: no EEE1394, which is suposedly being phased out of the next version PS2 as well :( Slot-in disc drive (I just don't like 'em) the $$$ All-in-all I think that I would rather buy the components seperatly, though I can see why someone would get this for spactial reasons. It will be interesting how this will effect the PS2-Linux (or is it Linux-PS2?) community. In the end I believe it will get hacked just like the X-Box has, but that's a whole new discussion that I won't venture into on these boards :D . Akki Koroshiya
im sorry,i didn know much more than that,i just thought that people would like to know its out there, andAzazel, they've already designed the PS3,its coming in '04 or '
Semjaza
The PS3 is far from fully designed. Working on a system and having it designed is something completely different. Most of the stuff going on with it at this point is theoretical, just like with any other next gen console. They all start planning them before the current ones are even out of the gate. So basically, the PSX is still easily marketable as a test for PS3 ideas. They still have plenty of time.
